Indeed. There was something that struck me weird though. After the rescue, the man just patted the dog on the butt and walked away. After something as dramatic as that, it just seems like a very odd reaction. He didn't even interact with the dog or look at it or see if it was okay, or anything. Very strange.

The clip in the russian steel factory: apparently, that failure mode isn't all that uncommon. There's a different clip out there that looks very similar that happened in a steel mill in Germany. Someone familiar with the plant explained that the bucket started leaking molten steel and the procedure is to use the crane to move it to an area where it can safely dump its whole load. In the process, you spray molten steel along the path the bucket takes but that path is pre-planned and set up to minimize the damage from the molten steel. It looks impressive but it's not all that dangerous unless someone is doing something excessively stupid. I remember one of the workers being grumpy because he lost his bicycle after parking it in the wrong place... ;-)

It's what we call an "open stop" it happens, not often but it happens. On the underside of the pan there's an hydraulic or pneumatic controlled opening which, in this case, did not close when instructed. The rest of the procedure of "open stop" has been written above

I've seen a similar clip. The traveling bucket full of molten steel caught up on the rim of the massive vat and it tipped the contents everywhere. Like a small tsunami of death rolling across the floor, knocking smaller racks and control stations down and rolling right over them. No one was hurt. It kinda happened in slow-motion until the tsunami started. It was AWESOME to see. An Oops! on a massive and frightening scale. All I could think of was how were they gonna clean it all up.

The volunteer firefighters in my part of the world are comparable to security guards. It’s all the rejects that, for whatever reason, can’t be an actual firefighter. They wear their gear everywhere they go. They’re pretty much only allowed to wash the truck and direct traffic. It’s very interesting how different people, and things, are around the world.

Trucks hitting overpasses is so common in Boston, they’ve even coined their own word for it: storrowing, or getting storrowed. Storrow drive is a major east-west artery that is notorious for its low overpasses. It runs near many of the colleges. Especially in late summer or early fall when unsuspecting college students are returning to college with their U-Haul truck full of stuff, many of them get storrowed because they’re not used to driving such a tall vehicle.

On those type of bridges it is usually recommended to walk at least 10 feet apart to spread out the weight. Some have even higher distances between people recommended. As for the can opener bridge. The put up height sensors, traffic lights, and lighted sign telling truckers when they were too high to go under the bridge. Some people still ignore the signs and try to go under.

About that can opener bridge - there is a similar old bridge in Turku, Finland, it hasn't gotten that many victims but that has still happened often enough, at least according to a couple of newspaper stories I remember reading. I think they are finally planning to replace it now. No idea if anybody ever managed to get video but there probably are enough pictures somewhere online. They probably aren't that rare.
@gnarthdarkanen7464

The Can Opener is funny entirely BECAUSE of all the victims it gets. In spite of having fame (infamy?) enough to have it's own website and a channel on YT (now "11 Foot 8 + 8") it's still getting drivers that are too lazy to check their over-all height with a tape measure and plan routes accordingly... Another dubious "famous traffic hazard" among the driver-fails channels is the "Milwaukee Roundabout", which is near a bridge with a 45 mph speed limit that reduces well before reaching the roundabout to 35 mph... AND YET, there's no end to the content of people speeding through only to lose control at some point and total out their vehicles there... Some certain "hot-spots" of idiot-driver actions just never seem to get old... I guess. ;o)

The can opener bridge cracked me up. That exact scenario happened to my moving truck back in the '80s (my husband at the time was driving). Then, with a big hole in the top of the truck, it started pouring rain. 😂 Must have been an omen. He left me two years later.

Dogs love us unconditionally, and we almost don't deserve them. Rescuing that dog was an important responsibility if you ask me. I'm a cat person, but I love dogs so much, too! Since working from home, I could have dog outside, cat inside. Is that a bad idea?

18:15 the bear has something tacked on each of its ears - I don't know what it is, but it's obviously been in contact with humans before, and might be trained to do stuff. That particular video feels like a setup - trained bear, bear activist, understanding how to close a door... yeah.

That door bear had two ear tags. That means it'd had two encounters with humans. It'd been acclimated to humans and was already deemed a dangerous bear. One more encounter and it'd be killed. My guess is that shortly after this incident became known to the NJ Fish and Game Dept., the bear was killed.

@@DocBobbyCarl Yeah, but as with most animals, you shouldn't let your guard down, because one day you are a source of food, and then more bears might come, and they might not be as chill. Bears, especially black bears, don't tend to view us as a meat source, but often a sick or injured bear will seek us out because we don't naturally have claws or speed to defend ourselves with.

@@DocBobbyCarllet that bear starve for a few days and see how polite it is then? I promise you you'll change your mild manner tune real quick. And if it were a female with cubs, god help you. They're called wild animals for a reason but some people think they're just big pet's till it's too late.
@DocBobbyCarl

@@Silo-Ren yes obviously you are afraid of nature so let’s kill it instead of leaving it alone and staying away from it. Obviously you should not be around giant wild animals or get between any wild animal and their young.
