Dragon Quest XI "post-game" isn't really a post-game. It's like Nier Automata route C, the game just continues with more game and story to a better ending. Most reference it as Act 3. It's also not true ending "nonsense", at least not to me. That nonsense (in other games) is generally having to meet extremely narrow criteria during a play-through (FFX-2 I'm looking at you!) But Dragon Quest XI's Act 3 just continues the story, automatically and naturally, no finagling required. I thought it was great.

Dragon Quest XI's "post game" isn't really post game but just the continuation of the main game and its story with new areas,characters and enemies. Similarly to Dragon's Dogma and unlike other post game contents you can't say you have beaten DQXI unless you have beaten the "post game" so as long as someone enjoys the game i don't get why that would be reason enough to not want to play it again someday.

@SpinDlsc

Not only that, but I've always hated the Fury gauge, largely because using Fury just to perform attacks is a pointless, and annoying mechanic, especially when every other Star Ocean game doesn't use such a shit gimmick. It was fine in the scope of having it full for your Shield, but it would have been better as just a Shield Gauge instead. If ever there is a remake of it, I pray that they change or remove some of the more annoying combat mechanics. In regards to the 0 MP thing, I wouldn't be surprised if it was a lingering bug from the original JP version, since it initially released in a very buggy state in JP before they ended up having to do a "Director's Cut" version of it that fixed most of them.

@@JulioCastrejon04 It's optional in the same sense playing Nier Automata's 3 routes is optional. As a recent fan of Atelier, your take on the series is spot on. They do a pretty good job making endless fetch quests entertaining and there's always the item-finding aspect to make things interesting, but I doubt I'd replay any of the ones I've finished. I'm spending time with Lulua right now, so maybe I'll go back to the other Arland games to see some of the lore I'm missing. Edit: Thx for the DQXI spoiler alert. Much appreciated. :) This one has been on my backlog for eons.

As a rule of thumb, i only ever clear games once for the sake of the story. If the ending is satisfactory, i call it a day, and the game has concluded for me. However, if something i did not like happens, and i can change it, i may go out of my way to play it again like the character that dies in dragon quest while i haven't played the game yet if i find the character interesting i may go out of my way to save it otherwise they will remain gone in my story conclusion

Xenoblade 2 imo has wayyyyy better exploration than 1 and 3. In XC1 you move ridiculously slow in massive areas, and in XC3 the areas are three times the size of XC1. XC2 gives you permanent movement speed increases periodically throughout the game which makes it much easier to get around. This coupled with the fact the areas are notably smaller, but just much more dense in content and collectibles makes it a much better expereince exploration wise imo.

@ltb1345 In XC2, you get them from buying out shops, which is much easier and quicker to receive. XC3 they're more explicitly communicated via the colony rank system, but you get them wayyyyy later in the game. The final one of which can't be received until post game. The areas are also three times the size of XC2, making them far more important.
@nosciumpixel2238
@nosciumpixel2238 6 ай бұрын
Yes to me, the exploration of XC2 is the best of the 3 (not including ofc) even with the problem xeno 2 has. Xeno 1 is too old, its a game who don't give you that much for exploring, the quest system and grinding is garbage and belong to the past. Xeno 3 doesn't have organic map anymore, every area has a fix level, you get the lv 25 area, the lv 42 area etc... so there's no groove exploring these + the progression system is just bad, you need to fight monster of your level or higher in order to level up your classes which mean you just don"t want to do the fight anymore in the area which have lower levle than your crew and with the xp system from quest, you can easily be overlevel for plenty of area. Xeno 2 on the other hand had the gacha system which might be not good for most people (i think the problem is just the lack of end game option to make the farm less a chore) but actually made you explore the map in order to chase core crystals and new weapon for blades, it was a good incentive for exploration, xenoblade 1 had equipment and secret art you could obtain from ennemies, xeno 3 had none of these, just bland almost useless currency.

Tales of Arise at the start left me hoping for something, but it didn't make the list. Sigh of relief. I love that game and already replayed twice. Dragon Quest XI, though, how dare they? The game is wonderful and starts with some "this is just some confort food jrpg, chosen one and all", but then they kill Veronica very tastefully and do a kick ass Serena thing. (got a thing for short haired women too, sooooo...). Oh, that thing I liked, about confort food turning into not so dark but really heartfelt story with ups and downs? No, I get to use time travel to UNDO EVERY STORY BEAT I WORKED FOR because of a DATED HARDCORE GAMER GRINDFEST! Anyway, back to Baldur's Gate 3. The post game for DQXI can be beaten just fine without any grinding at all. If you hit a wall you need to change tactics and/or go finish some side content you haven't done yet instead. That said the game could really do for a lower level difficulty for anybody who just wants to breeze through it. Never hurts to have more choices.

On top of my head the only game i won't ever play again(not even boot the dang thing) is Star Ocean: The Last Hope International, the game is really dope but getting all battle trophies was a hellish nightmare, In college I almost failed my thesis because of it xD

11:05 - As bad as the puzzles are in Star Ocean 3, it's the least of what's wrong with the game. The MP system while sounding good on paper had one major flaw. It disinclined you from ever using your special attacks. You won't want to use your MP consuming moves, because if an enemy attacks your MP, then you risk them one-shotting your character. So by the end of the game, you'll have this list of awesome moves, that you'll never use because most of the enemies in the late game do large amounts of MP damage. And you also have to manually control certain characters so their AI doesn't flush their own MP. So you're constantly micromanaging in order to treat this. I just want to play the freaking game. Also filling the map is a pain in the butt, because the game is so specific with what it considers to be 100 percent on a map, to the point where you'll have 99 percent and you'll be looking at the map half the time and have no clue where that last 1 percent is. So you go around hugging every wall to get it to 100 percent. And these maps aren't exactly small either. And let's not forget about the Disintegrator. Indisputably the single worst thing to ever plague the Star Ocean series, yet the one tool the franchise kept insisting on bringing back. Two words define this item. Artificial padding. You'll be in a dungeon that will be quite long with a ton of enemies everywhere, and then you'll realize your Disintegrator is out of juice. So you have to drop everything and leave the dungeon and go to one of the precious few places in the world that can recharge the thing. Then when you get back, you'd better remember which objects you destroyed previously, because if you don't, you'll likely have to do this multiple times per dungeon. This didn't just stop me from playing Star Ocean 3 again. It stopped me from playing multiple Star Ocean games again. I was so happy when their brain finally turned on and they removed this thing in later entries. Don't shove a stupid mechanic into your game that is designed to just pad it out. You just piss people off that way. Finally, the infamous plot twist. Again, this is an issue with the writing and not the twist itself, as well as what it did to the franchise going forward. The scene reveals a life-changing truth for your characters and their universe, and their response is the same kind of response that one would give if they were asked to go out and buy some groceries. It's shoddy writing that makes what should be a dramatic and world-shattering scene into something that's more of a laughable sequence because of how ridiculous the dialogue is in it. And let's not forget that this twist is the reason why the fourth game ended up being a huge retcon of years worth of storylines. Every game after that one was more/less based in the timeline it set up.

Heresy! :D But seriously, more modern, better designed RPGs are usually designed so you don't need to grind like it's 1989. Conversely, most RPGs where the enemy is out on the field usually ends up with the player running between designated spawn points to grind for xp/loot/gold/whatever so it's still immersion breaking. Even games like FF12 that try to add a sense ecology and rare enemies suffer from this somewhat.

@TheBlackSeraph Some circumvented this problem with putting something that indicates where the battles will happen, without telling what enemies you will engage like in Star Ocean 2 Remake, I find that solution acceptable.

Agreed, although some games, like the FF Pixel remaster set, give the ability to turn random encounters completely off. I used that feature to grind when I felt like it, and then walk through the dungeons unchallenged 😂

I disagree on DQ11. Here's why 1. It's not really an post game. Just more of an continuation of the story and there are plot points that was mentioned in previous acts, but never brought up all it's answered in the last story segment like Calasmos, the floating sanctuary in the sky, the Watchers, Veronica's cursed, Erdrick's past and why he was chosen, the mysterious gypsy woman, etc. All that was answered and makes the journey worth it. Yeah. It sucks that we have to time travel and losing to the side characters depths that we help out. But it's for the best and we still can get there problems solved at the last act anyway if you so decided to do so. It's more so of what would've happened if Yggsdrasil hasn't been destroyed and we have an bigger threat that was the caused of all this since the beginning. I am aware it's diverse. But I personally don't mind. 2. The difficulty in the last main story isn't that hard. Yes. It can be repetitive of going through stuff again we've already been through. But it had an purpose and it's optional if you wonna makes things better and get stronger. Plus there are new areas to explore like Drustan's Trial & others and there are easy ways to level up your characters faster like hunting any Metal Slime monsters and use an Critical Hit move. I never died once in any of the last main story. So really. There is no difficulty spikes. No offense. But you aren't playing the game hard enough.

For me it was Final Fantasy VII Remake on PS4. Most of the new story elements/mechanics don't gel well with the original story, and I felt like I was playing a slightly less crappy version of FF13/FF15 with the flayed corpse of FF7 over the top. I was p!ssed off with the game by the time I got to the end of it, and when I discovered that the full weapons upgrade system is only available on Hard Mode (unlocked after beating the game on normal), I had a few choice expletives and swore I'd never touch this game again, which I've never done with any other FF game. Given that SQEX released the sequel on a different platform that I don't own I think I made the right decision. 4:22 - A minor point for anyone who is curious: Atelier Marie actually has a PS4 release as well, although you need to import an Asian-region or Korean copy if you want a physical version. Not sure how it compares to its previous iterations though.

The original xc1 and xc x have the same exploration problem as xc2, though, so saying it's the only game in the series with this problem is underselling it imo. The XC:DE version (which came out 3 years after 2) and 3 kinda learn from this mistake and gave you a dotted line to follow eventually.

Hard agree on DQ11's post-game. I LOVED the game initially, but the post-game largely feels like a cheap add-on if I'm being honest. I'm also largely against the whole trope of bringing characters back to life, because it kind of cheapens their death in the first place.
