10 Most OVERHYPED Manchester United Academy Graduates!

On today’s top ten, we’re taking a look at ten of Manchester United’s most overhyped academy graduates, and how they’ve turned out. Adnan Januzaj is the only one here to have carved out a decent career at a high level, but the likes of Cameron Borthwick-Jackson, Luke Chadwick and James Wilson have found their peak in League 1. Andreas Pereira may still be on the books but is a perennial loanee, whilst United fought tooth and nail to keep hold of Zeki Fryers a decade ago - but now he is a non-league footballer. Angel Gomes is out of his depth at Lille, and Paddy McNair is in the Championship, dreaming of a Premier League return. It was all downhill for Federico Macheda after two goals in two games to start his United career, and then there’s the curious case of Ravel Morrison, supposedly one of the most gifted players Sir Alex Ferguson has ever seen.

well… in this list, there were only 3 players where Sir Alex highly rated. 3/10 in 26 years of managing, and hundreds of other academy graduates. Zeki Fryers ruined his own career by leaving Sir Alex who rated him. Macheda also didn’t listen to Sir Alex’s advice to stay in England. Ravel Morisson had bad infuences off the pitch. Your comment is so misleading.

Not exactly. Let's not forget Gerrard Piqué, remember he was a part of United's youth system. Jonny Evans wasn't the greatest, but had a decent career. Same as the Da Silva twins, but they just peaked too soon. It was anyways clear most of them wouldn't be superstars like the likes of Beckham. Rashford and Welbeck also deserve mentioning.

Other than the busby babes and class of 92, our academy hasn't produced any top players. Especially in recent years. Our academy being great is a myth based on our history. We will never replicate the teams of the 60s and 90s and the sooner we realise this the better.

I mean you could throw every single one from the last fifteen years on this list. Even the good ones are over hyped. I've heard Mancs calling Rashford better than Killian Mbappe as little as two years ago. Also United fans love a good high potential rating in Fifa. So much so that it installs fake memories in their brains. When a sixteen year old Angel Gomes got one of the highest potential ratings in the game you'd never even heard the guys name the day before that game was released. The day after however everyone was enchanted by stories from their United fan friends of how they'd been following the lads career for years by watching him play in the youth team.

It's weird how some graduates with less hype have had a better career 😅 McTominay and Williams never had any hype, and even though they aren't amazing, they're shaping up to have much better careers than the rest of them. Both have outstanding attitudes, so maybe that is why 🤷♂️

He wasn’t overhyped, was literally thrown into an injury hit squad last minute and immediately impressed. Think he’ll be more a player that will peak too early and drop off, definitely wasn’t overhyped as he was consistently impressive for about 4-5 years

Who is overhyping Elanga? He's decent and he works hard, which more than you can say for the rest of the squad so he gets in the team, and that's about it. No-one's out here calling him the next great united player.
