As an American that lived in the UK from 2010-2012, I was very impressed by the kind of content that was shown on this British TV channel. It would make the American conservatives have heart attacks, lol.

American censorship makes no sense. Apparently drugs and violence are fine but swear words and nudity? Woah now you've gone too far!
@smittysmeee

Oh, honey, it's not conservatives who control censorship in the USA. Hasn't the massive wave of wokeness clued you in yet? You think conservatives want nonbinary kids cartoons? Elmo telling kids to get vaccines as opposed to doctors? Do you think they want 5 year old trans kids' lives broadcast for all to see? Do you know what "conservative" means? Oh, no, you are blaming the wrong side for having the wrong kind of heart attacks. It's more like, "Every TV show on the air has to have an evil straight white male villain, a strong trans female lead, and there need to be 5 gay couples or else we'll riot in the streets!" American TV is trash, no doubt. Just know who to blame.

Embarrassing bodies did teach me how to check my body. It meant when I did find a lump I was able to go to my GP. I was 17 when I found the lump. Thankfully it was benign but the GP said although she didn't agree with Embarrassing Bodies as a concept she was glad it had taught a teenager how to do something that could save her life in the future.

The idea of dumping all non-essential luxury items is like a sort of cleansing of the soul and I imagine that it would help encourage people to get on with the things that really matter because you don't have those unnecessary distractions. Something I reckon would be very hard to do, but it could be done as long as it's something that you really wanted to do. I also think that it shows a certain level of maturity to be able to do that.

Boys Alone and Girls Alone aired in the early 2000s. Boys and Girls Alone (2009), was similar and far more controversial that the one featured in the video. There is no available (that I know off) film from this show, bar a 30-second trailer for the show.

Those who can remember the 1980s may recall C4’s Red Triangle season, in which late night broadcasts featured graphic and extreme material (for the time). It included films which would not normally be broadcast uncut, with a rede triangle clearly displayed in the top corner of the screen in case you accidentally channel-hopped onto some Euro-nudity or harrowing political drama. As a teenage boy I gamely tuned in, but it wasn’t the titillating fare I was expecting and along with their Jean-Luc Godard season I picked up an appreciation of more artsy cinema.

In the US we have for your medical program Dr. Pimplepopper and My Feet Are Killing Me which can get pretty graphic. Hoarders and other varying programs put those on the spot who have issues of collecting items that make their homes basically unlivable. Chris Hanson goes out and confronts people who show a possibility of being dangerous to others and eventually have authorities take them away. We also have contestant shows where people need to survive either by going through long tours and a scavenger hunt, or one called Naked and Afraid where people are brought to remote areas and they need to basically live off the land its hazards while being naked. Dr. G has a medical exam program using forensic science to determine the cause of death for individuals, while another Dr goes and autopsies famous people determining if there was foul play, self harm or natural causes of their deaths. Within all these shows they can get pretty gruesome with the actual surgical procedures, what animals or fauna are used for eating, to even original crime scene pics used in the docudrama.

Shooting blanks towards a skull can still cause terminal damage. That's how Brandon Lee died on set.

Brandon Lee died because the chamber of the gun had not been cleared properly before the blank was fired, not from the blank itself. But yes, Blanks aren't just magical safety bullets that won't cause damage under any circumstances. They can be just as dangerous as regular bullets and must be used responsibly.

FYI It doesn't matter if the gun is loaded with blanks. The wad that comes out is enough to kill you. A popular movie star in the 80s found out the hard way. He died on set while playing around with a gun loaded with blanks. A coworker playing around ended up with a hole in his leg when he hit a blank with a hammer. He was lucky it missed an artery.
