My goal is to become more regal as I age. To choose classy over sexy. I’m finding it’s a fine line not to cross over into frumpy, however keeping myself fit and my hair and makeup polished helps to keep the frump away.

So true on all of these. Wear what makes you feel comfortable. I’m in my sixties and bought a pink tshirt this year. I got so many compliments on how good I looked in pink. I also wear shorter (not micro minis) skirts after people started telling me I had great legs. Besides, if they’re looking at my legs, they’re not checking out my stomach. 😂😂

I totally agree with the stripes!!! I also shop in the men’s department and have found some awesome jackets to wear with my outfits. I often wear a black mini dress with tights, a cool belt, a men’s jacket, and Doc Marten’s. I am only 4’10 and 69 years old. I just love the edgy look and it makes me feel confident and joyful! I hate style rules and always find myself challenging them. I just don’t agree that women “over a certain age” should dress a particularly way. After all, it’s just clothes! Have fun, be creative, and jump out of the box now and then! If you catch a glimpse of yourself in a mirror when you are out and about and find the outfit you put on did not exactly have the appeal you thought it did before leaving the house, just say “oops!” with a grin and try something different next time! Hey…it’s just art and you are a magnificent canvas!

You mentioned becoming a certain age and no longer want to show off all the “goods” but still want to be sexy. I’m 55. I’m a dog sitter because I’ve had severe chronic pain since 1992. But I think as we get older we begin to realize what “sexy” means. You can be covered from neck to toes and still be sexy. It’s an attitude. Sometimes it’s what’s under our clothes that’s sexy and makes us feel that way. Experience is a wonderful thing. Also, I love yoga pants. I don’t look good in them but I wear them because 99% of the time I’m in my own dang house and I’m a grownup. It’s one of the perks….like having ice cream for dinner. Also the dogs don’t care what I wear. Neither does hubs.

Dearest Anna, agree with everything you’ve said. I feel that dressing appropriate is essential at any age. I am very much against moms competing with their daughters! Teach your daughters balance and do it yourselves. I would buy Levi’s in the mens section always, best fit for me too. Wear your tall boots, who care if they bunch up! I’ve always mixed metals including pearls, like it, will continue to do it. I’m at the mind set of you do you , tastefully preferably, but rock the look you love. ENJOY, it’s later than you think !

I love that you, for the most part, told us things that we could wear. One blogger that I mentioned to you before only tells you what is out of style, or according to her what is out of style. I can’t even remember all of the items she included. However; just the few I remember are leopard print, round toed booties, cowel neck sweaters and any long hair that is not styled like hers. I am not giving up leopard prints or cowel neck sweaters and I am undecided about round toed booties. I understand that bloggers say those things because that is what they do, so please don’t throw me under the bus because I’m complaining. I enjoy your videos and I am a subscriber. Thank you.

I worked in fashion retail in the 1970s. To this day I still wear what feels good and ignore trends. Classics are always going to be in style. For me, personally, I dislike matching denim outfits and I won’t wear my denim jacket with my jeans. Now, if I owned a pair of black jeans I’d wear my denim jacket with them. It’s a color thing. And speaking of color, your lime green top is definitely a classic. It’s the shape of it that makes it so, not the color. 😊

Hey Anna! Fellow Floridian here. I don't mix prints only because I just don't have the eye for it. It looks great when done right. The denim on denim (not in the summer...you understand) is something I'd do every day if I could! I love it. I'm 58 but could easily pass for 57 😊 so I still wear jeans and graphic tees with a great pair of low heels and a gorgeous bag. I love all slightly oversized, relaxed-fit clothing now, too. Great video! In mixing prints, yes the colors may be the same or complementing each other, but the second part is that the scale of one pattern should dominate the other. For example, a stripe (or other) pattern should be smaller (or larger) than the checks, florals, etc. you maybe combining it with.

I watch your videos because I like your personality. You have this laid back manner about you that feels great when I need to take a break and indulge in my curiosity in what’s happening in trends. As for this “dressing your age” nonsense… Who dictates what’s age appropriate? Media bombarding society with how a respectable mature woman should look like? Dowdy appearance and boring? Think about how female politicians and lawyers dress on average to be accepted. (Edit: please ignore how celebrities dress. They live by different rules and standards to the rest of society. I speak about the average woman working an average job and trying to get promoted.) I’m going to give a condensed history lesson and I hope everyone thinks about it the next time you feel negative thoughts about wearing something you want to wear. Before women had legal agency over themselves, the only area of their lives where they could express themselves was fashion. Men have spent centuries ridiculing women’s fashion with their misogynistic poems and cartoons (I’ve seen them and they’re offensive and meant to be offensive at the time). Before we had elastics, ties were used to make clothes adjustable (no surprise, we love our wrap dresses, don’t we?). Women, with our changing bodies, is it a wonder we needed adjustable clothes? So bow ties were part of women’s fashion. What about flounces and frills around the the décolletage region? Did they have a purpose? Yes! Just as we are conscious of underwear lines, so were the women back then. The historical corset would create this noticeable ridge, and it was very obvious in the warmer seasons with thinner layers. The lace and whatever else they used to decorate was there to disguise or hide the ridge. When the women’s movement aimed to push women to be able to participate in jobs women were locked out of, women adopted men’s fashion to be taken more seriously by men. At the time, men were still putting out cartoons ridiculing women for what they wore as a reason to lock women out of the political sphere. So women adopted this internal misogyny: bright colours, frills, lace, bow ties, etc… These things are for shallow women. This is little girl’s clothes. Serious women don’t wear any of it. This completely disregards the history of the relationship these features have with clothes designed for women and by women. So I ask you, how much of that still persists today? For a woman to be taken seriously in the boardroom (a real one, not TV land), what is she socially not allowed to wear when on the job? Is she expected to dress more androgynously? How much of this spills over into our private life? We are not two people when we’re on duty and off duty. We carry our prejudices around 24/7. What are you afraid to wear because you fear social backlash? Why is something a young woman’s fashion? I’m not saying to go ahead and wear it if you really will have negative consequences that will affect you financially, but keep the history in mind when you feel negative emotions for wanting to wear something. You are not the problem.

*YES* !!! This is the type of content that got my sub! 👏🏾 I appreciate your validation on *all* of these points! 😄 9:26 This is a biggie! For me it's an "Age Vision" experience. Outfits that seemed totally ok *2 years ago* are now immodestly *outrageous* "for my age " 😆 But adding leggings to my minis + *everything you just said* reminds me to focus on more practical and realistic fashion ideals that work regardless of age!

There is a rule that I break all the time. It has to do with being current and in style. After I passed my 40th birthday, I decided that I no longer cared about what the trends were, and started wearing whatever the heck I wanted. By the time I passed my 50th birthday, I had just about every trend possible through the ages, so I just picked back up, all the things that had gone out of style in my younger days, and if they still fit, I wore them. Baggies back in? No problem. Skinny all the rage? No worries. Neon pink? Hmmm. I can't find my 80s hot pink jacket...I might have tossed it, thinking it was NEVER going to come back in style. 😀 What was I thinking?

I understand what you mean about society and all the rules and regulations they have about how you should dress after a certain age. I believe fashion is a form of expression and if you feel comfortable wearing something and you enjoy it well then that’s all that matters. Why should you limit yourself because of your age, or body weight. Every stage in life has the right to expression and to enjoy. It’s all about being happy life is to short to worry about what others think. I’m 53 years old and I dress the way I want my hair is long because I want it that way, I cut it when I get the itch to change my look but not because I’m 53. Age is just a number it’s all about your spirit and how you feel as long as you are not offensive In the way you dress I don’t see why age should be a issue. Live to the fullest, create and enjoy and be happy! Have a blessed day!❤

I tried vertical stripes many years ago and didn't like the way they looked, but I liked horizontal stripes so I've been wearing them ever since. I was brought up to match my bag to my shoes and my gloves to my hat (you missed that one!). Nowadays, I'm more likely to match my shoes to my trousers, my gloves to my coat, carry a contrasting bag and, if it's cold enough for a hat, it just needs to keep my ears warm.

I love what you said about bit of stomach sticking out. Shape wear is uncomfortable, and I don't know how people managed to use the bathroom with them on. Also love the idea❤ of sequins, faux fur and a red cowboy hat

There is a trick to it and some experimenting and trying out, and if you find what works for your body type, needs and lifestyle, and in the correct size it is super comfortable and gives you a very nice foundation for your outfits, and going to the bathroom can be tricky but once you learn how to do it, is worth it. I use several styles especially with fitted dresses and makes a world of difference in the appearance of my outfits.

I also find abetter fit wearing Levi's. Ultimately I agree there are somethings I cannot pull off like too many stiff ruffles or pigtails. But I love to see others embrace whatever they choose to wear, just the way we did in the sixties. Love your channel🥳❤️🥳

Oh man, I LOVE cool patterns mixed together "correctly". I haven't ever done it...but I do love it. I agree about "dressing your age". It means different things to different people. Definitely wear what makes you feel fantastic! But I won't be wearing the spaghetti strap tank top and frayed Jean mini skirt I wore on my 20's. Ain't no one wants to see those parts of me now! 🤣

Anna, you've got the legs to rock a mini so wear them if you wish. I'm with you in that we should wear what we're comfortable in. I'm nearly 64 now, tall with an athletic build, but I no longer feel comfortable showing a lot of leg so I'm not going there anymore, and that's all good. Appreciate your videos and humor. Cheers!

Love the video, as usual. I know what you mean about not always wearing the same style. I’m 70 and my taste seems to be very similar to that of Jennifer Aniston, when she dresses in cords and boots. Mostly casual, but there are times I go more BoHo and others when I like wearing elegant jumpsuits.

...meh....jeans + jeans....it may look scary sometimes (ah ah ah); perhaps...to avoid? Pink! You have a very sensible reaction to it Ms Anna; and yes! Allowing ourselves wearing it makes the " gloomy days " of late Fall feel...HAPPY! No one..is obliged to follow " whaterver-we-may-call-it " trends of fashion but, it is...joy-full! ;) (if you like it, of course!) I really appreciate the one about: trying too hard... ;) You are so right! May we mention " decency" ? Being classy (respecting yourself, you automatically respect...the others! Voilà!)You said the work ¨provocative¨ and..that is what it is!!! Even if you have a FLAT stomach, beautiful curves, I literally CANNOT wear tops to show my stomach, a blazer (without a bra and a blouse) OMG!..nope Ah Ah Ah The Fashion World seems to allow...ANYTHING, don't you feel it also? Therefore...mmm...¨ dressing YOUR AGE¨ makes no sense anymore, does it?? But....dressing to feel lovely and feminine with SO MANY options (and remaining RESPECTFUL) is such a HUGE opportunity here! What do you think?? Thank you so much for bringing up those ideas.... you are so wise about it! BRAVO!! helene :))

I absolutely agree with (most) of what you are saying here. However, I think that you should try to find out - unless you already know - what your personal style is and make your choices accordingly. That way you will feel your best.

I agree with you about the "dressing your age" thing. I don't think it should be something you have to live by or follow, but as a 29 yo, I definitely have a different style now than I did just 5 years ago. I use to dress very grunge with big t-shirts and flared jeans. Then I turned a little more stylish punk in my 20s. And now I find myself evolving into this classy grunge style where I still have a bit of that edge, but in a more mature and classy way.

Dressing your age is not a rule, but rather a frame of mind. Your experience, your wisdom and your lifestyle should be factors in choosing clothes you wear. With wisdom and experience comes maturity and of course when a woman is young she wants to show it all off, but as we age we realize that we really dont need to show everything and we become more conscious of style over fashion. We begin to think more about comfort, and quality and depending on our lifestyle we choose what works best. An artist type may want to wear more avant-garde clothes, while a conservative woman may like wearing more structured clothing. If you feeling comfortable wearing certain clothes you'll be happier wearing them. As we mature we also realize that being alluring is better than being sexy. Elegance is more important than being Hot. You dont have to dress like a frump just because you're over 35, 40, 50 and so on.

I don't know where I got the impression that a bone white/white shoulder handbag was childish/not trendy. Fast forward to today and I bought my first bag like that and I love it. It's small enough for me to see what I have inside with secure compartments, whereas a larger tote keeps me clawing and searching, as if the stuff I put in went into a black hole! White IS chic and useful (and I didn't match this with my tan leather boots either! Thank you for this video Anne!

You cracked me up when you said your daughter hates jeans. When I was a kid I couldn’t stand the feel of jeans on my body. I didn’t like most pants in general. There was something about the feel of fabric swishing around my legs that bug me. Even today if it’s hot out or my jeans are a little too baggy I start feeling that denim on my skin and I just want to rip them off. And I am 52 and love hot pink. I’ll never give it up. I think it’s one of my best colors.
