Hey Kyle, love you and your team the Tempe Tornados on Tuesday night pickleball. I really like the 4 quarter scoring system and the clock. The challenge chicken cracks me up. On bad calls I am yelling at the tv, “ throw the chicken!” I recommend your you tube channel to anyone that wants to learn the game. You are a natural teacher, and your presentation and graphics make your videos informative and fun. Keep up the excellent work!

When a ball is hit at my feet, instead of trying to get back quick enough and failing to return the ball, I started just bringing the paddle behind me and hitting the ball after it bounces between my legs. I will admit it does look cool, but I originally started doing it because it was the only option to hit that type of shot. When in the first game of the night my friend said you're looking a little rusty, then immediately on the next shot I hit the between the legs shot and I said "How's that for Rusty". Timing was perfect. 👑

Kyle have you thought of making a video for how to drive a short return while keeping it in? People crush my short returns sometimes but I can’t really seem to do the same. It’s more likely to just go out. I can’t pit enough topspin or whatever else is involved. I just third those less ambitiously if it’s not rec play now.

Hey Kyle, can you do a video on how to combat against players speeding up directly at you at your chest and at your neck. I mean, you have no leverage on the ball to defend it, your hand is not in an extended position to battle back and a lot more players are doing this because they know that you'll strike at it because you don't have enough time to judge if it's going out or even get out of the way if you think it's going to be out if it's hit really hard at your chest high shoulder neck area.

Thanks for the suggestion! The one thing I would start with is keeping your paddle up so your reaction time is naturally quicker!
@shipwreck8847

@@thatpickleballguy I do do that, it's not that I can't hit the ball, but when someone applies that much speed and power at you, the ball doesn't hit true and deflects odd it's also not a good position to push out of to get any power. I'm talking about 4.5-5.0 mens playing hard to your neck upper shoulders. You actually can't get out of the way if you have no reaction time and they just choose to tag you. Most people don't do this because it's not nice, but certain people here do it just to win easy points.

Look closely at a net and you’ll see there’s actually a pretty heavy duty wire cord that runs through the tape, or at the top of the net. It’s what gives it structure. A “let” is the rule in various net games (tennis, badminton, Pickleball, etc.) that says when/if a net cord is legal, illegal, or a reply 👍

Pickleball Lingo Decoded: A Comprehensive Guide Unlocking the Language of the Fast-Growing Sport Introduction Pickleball, a sport that has gained remarkable popularity in recent years, comes with its own set of unique terms and phrases that can be baffling to newcomers. To help you navigate the language of the court, we've compiled a comprehensive guide to the top ten most common terms in pickleball. From "The Serve" to "ATP," we'll decode the jargon and shed light on what makes these terms integral to the game. 0:07 1. The Serve The serve is the starting point of every pickleball rally. It's the player's opportunity to set the tone for the point by delivering the ball diagonally across the net to the opposing team. A well-executed serve is crucial as it can put the receiving team on the defensive, while a mishandled one can lead to missed opportunities. 0:18 2. The Return The return is the second shot in a pickleball rally, where the receiving team aims to send the ball back over the net after the serve. Precision and control are key to a successful return, as it dictates the flow of the point and sets up the subsequent shots. A strong return can put the serving team on the back foot, while a weak one can lead to an advantage for the server. 0:41 3. 3rd Shot (Drive/Drop) The third shot is a pivotal moment in pickleball, with players having two common options: the third shot drive or the third shot drop. The choice depends on the player's strategy and skill level. The third shot drive involves a powerful shot aimed at pushing the opponents back, while the third shot drop is a softer, more controlled shot designed to set up the player's advance to the kitchen, an essential part of pickleball tactics. 1:50 4. Dinking Dinking, often perplexing to newcomers, is a crucial aspect of pickleball played near the net. It involves soft, controlled shots meant to keep the ball low and near the net, preventing opponents from attacking aggressively. Dinking is all about finesse and patience, and it's a common strategy used to gain an advantage in the "kitchen." 2:55 5. Speed Up Speeding up in pickleball refers to transitioning from slower, controlled play to a quicker pace. It's usually done when an opportunity presents itself, allowing players to seize the initiative and take control of the rally. The ability to speed up effectively can catch opponents off guard and create scoring opportunities. 3:17 6. Kitchen The kitchen, also known as the non-volley zone, is a critical area on the pickleball court. Players cannot hit the ball in the air while standing inside the kitchen, making it a strategic location for positioning during play. Staying out of the kitchen until the right moment is a key element of advanced pickleball strategies. 4:10 7. Side Out In pickleball, a side out occurs when one team loses its serve and the opposing team gains the opportunity to serve. This shift in serving rights often happens after a team fails to score points during their serving rotation. Understanding when and why side outs occur is fundamental to playing the game effectively. 4:52 8. Net Cord A net cord refers to a situation where the ball grazes the top of the net but still manages to pass over to the opponent's side of the court. It's a common occurrence in pickleball and can lead to unexpected outcomes. Players typically do not apologize for net cords, as they are considered part of the game and can work in favor of either team. 5:34 9. Erne An Erne is an advanced maneuver where a player moves around the kitchen or jumps over the kitchen line to hit the ball on the side. It's named after Ernie Perry and is a legal and exciting shot that requires precise timing and positioning. Executing an Erne can catch opponents off guard and add flair to a player's repertoire. 6:19 10. ATP ATP, or Around the Post, is a spectacular shot in pickleball where a player hits the ball around the net post to score a point. It's a legal and impressive move that requires exceptional accuracy and timing. ATP shots are often celebrated as they showcase a player's skill and creativity on the court.
