When I do the drill for resets, I award the other player an extra point if they reach the kitchen line and they say "kitchen" once their feet and balance is established. They could win 2 points per rally, one for the rally itself and one for reaching the kitchen line. It helps to reinforce the idea of neutralizing the advantage by reaching the kitchen line.

My way of loosening my grip and works really really well for me, is releasing/loosening the grip of my forefinger and middle finger. Not letting go of the paddle but loosening the grip of the 2 fingers. The only fingers in control of my paddle are my thumb, pinky, and ring finger. It took time but is very effective. (Works for me)

When I'm drilling I like to have the drilling player complete the skill X number of times, rather than compete. We'll do +/- so a success is +1 a miss is -1. If it's dinks out of the air, anything other than an unattackable ball is -1. They have to get to 20 or 30 or 50 depending on difficulty/capability. This way it isn't just about the skill, but at execution at a high percentage. The only way to "win" is to execute the drilled skill.

@rockerobertson40029 сағат бұрын
@@thatpickleballguy this is the drill that I learned when I attended a colin johns clinic in Costa Rica. Too hot for pb to be honest. Regardless, learned so much. This is harder to explain, than show. Depending on where the ball is, the defending team has to be ready for the highest percentage shot for a speedup. its where you should be %95 sitting on, say, your backhand to cover the middle. The coach moves the ball around, and you have to reposition, showing with your bracket what you are covering. Hope that makes sense. The most valuable drill lesson I ever had. This is purely a defensive drill. Covers neutral zone up to kitchen. Lemme know what's missing. And I'll try and re explain it.

Aloha Kyle! I don't think you realize how important this message is. For thirty years, I was a competitive tennis player, mostly a singles base line player. When I was introduced to pickleball, I was told to get up to the kitchen line, but nobody ever could explain to me why. In the beginning, I just shook my head and said to myself, 'Hey, I'm good at the baseline and can win from there!" As I delved deeper into the game, I began to see the logic of that, so I learned to move up to the kitchen line when receiving. Naturally, that has made all the difference in my game. And I have to admit, I'm one of those players who says to my partner who doesn't know that, "Get your butt up there!" LOL However, I do explain why and they are grateful I do. Great video as usual. Yours are the BEST!!! Thanks so much!

I think the mistake he makes at 8:43 is crossing over with his right leg, instead of stepping left with his left leg. But perhaps the angle was too wide for him to do that, so maybe the real problem is he was positioned too far in the middle of the court.
