I don't know if it was a Canadian only car or what, but I owned a 1969 Oldsmobile Cutlass SX with a 455V8-2bbl./365hp., turbo 400 3-speed auto, and Olds corporate 363 geared diff., Bench seat interior, no console column shift, in a ugly dark green inside and out. Could make the smoke roll in the back windows, and sure scared a lot of Mach Mustang, and Chevy Camaro drivers. Anyone else know anything about these?

The Cutlass Spreme SX cars were built in 1970 and 1971. I own a 1970 that's all original numbers matching going through a full resto. If your car was a 1969, then someone added the SX emblems and 455. I also previously owned a 1972 Cutlass Supreme that came with a 455. Olds dropped the SX emblems in 1972 but there was also a Hurst Olds in 1972. In case you didn't notice, I love these cars and it took me about 35 years to find my SX.

Ive never heard of a 69 SX 70 and 71. A 71 SX was my first car. In 71 all SX had 4bls, the gearing sounds suspect as well. These cars were built with high highway gears 2.75,2.73, 3,08. Did you run your vin?

My first car, 1969 442, bought off the wife of a neighborhood old timer who passed away. It had a 455 which was technically not an option. This however was the era of Central Office Production Order. My father always bought Olds because his old high school friend ran a dealership. In those days he could order a car anyway he wanted as long as he didn’t mind waiting for it. I bought my ‘69 in 1976 for $800. In any event it had a 455, bought from the original owner’s widow with 28,000 miles and it was a rocket. Won races against 454 Chevelle, 400 GTOs, 440 GTXs. It was a beast, convertible, by the way. Please don’t tell me Olds didn’t make muscles cars. They made at least one I know of.

I owned a 70 Cutlass SX 455 two barrel-gold, black top gold or tan interior, I forget which. Previous commenter is correct, SX's were only made in 70 and 71. There is a really nice 71 for sale now on bring a trailer. My 70 was a beast off the line and a great highway car-in my experience, few could beat the acceleration from 65 or 70 to 100... and my first really nice daily driver. Wish I still had it. My only complaint about the car was a leak that enable water to get into the drivers side floor area. Tried resealing windshield, readjusting the quarter panel, never was able to fix it.Funny as much much as I love these and other old cars, (I currently own a 64 Imperial kzfaq.info/get/bejne/n9SHY6122861nYU.html ), I chuckle when they quote 0 to 60 speed. My Tesla beats them all! LOL

Hey I think you forgot one of the most important of all: the 1970 Toronado GT (W-34 package). My dad drove one; and it was a beast--a real head turner complete with a center console--a very very rare car. The 1970 Toronado GT produced THE HIGHEST HORSEPOWER EVER for any Olds: 400hp with 500 lbs of torque. It weighed a lot so not an earth scorcher timing at 7.8 seconds from 0-60. 5341 GTs were produced in 1970. Less than 300 had center consoles, torrid suspension and transmission oil cooler.

The 400 HP W34 is the same engine as the 390 HP W33, and the same engine as the 365 HP 4-4-2. Olds rated horsepower via the weight of the car. The 1970 4 speed W30 4-4-2 had a wild 328° camshaft , heat treated valve springs ,69cc heads vs 80 CCS on other 455s. It was rated at 370 HP due to its approximate weight of 3,700lb. It was much more powerful then the 400HP engine. But yes the 400 W34 is the highest rated .
