Simon sounds kind of negative at some of the over the top gimmicks but I personally long for this stuff. It's what wrestling needs these days and doesn't have enough of. Need gimmicks. Maybe in the past I would look at them as over the top but with the shortage of gimmicks nowadays I can't help but look at them and long for them.
@grabbity
@grabbity 4 жыл бұрын
I think the disconnect comes from the obvious cooperation that's become mainstream the last few years. Groups of people waiting for a dive. Holding your opponents hand so he can balance to do a springboard etc. The old weirdo gimmicks like undertaker, sheik etc were cool because the guys doing them were at least believable as a legitimate badass IMO.
@MrWolfchamp-xi3cu
@MrWolfchamp-xi3cu 4 жыл бұрын
@@grabbity you talking about wrestling. I'm talking about gimmicks. I'm not talking about in ring ability or cooperation. Only thing I'm focused on is the lack of gimmicks. Believability in the ring is something that is actually better than the old days I think because of the focus it gets over gimmicks and angles. Just wrestling wrestling wrestling all the time with no storylines or gimmicks.

General Adnan’s real name is Adnan Bin Abdul Kareem Ahmed Alkaissy El Farthie. He grew up in Baghdad, Iraq, his father was an imam, and Saddam Hussein was a friend from high school. He attended Oklahoma’s State, where he was on the wrestling team. Turned pro in 1959 as Adnan Kaissey, but his most popular gimmick was as Billy White Wolf. He and Jay Strongbow held the WWWF tag team titles. Needing neck surgery, he worked a match with Ken Patera where Patera “broke” his neck with his swinging neckbreaker. After recuperation he worked for New Japan in 1974 as the Sheik of Sheiks, and in 1981 debuted in the AWA as Sheik Adnan El Kaissey, wrestling and later managing. In 1990 he worked in the WWF as General Adnan, managing Sgt Slaughter and The Iron Sheik.

Paul Bearer’s real name was William Moody, not Paul Moody. He was also Percy Pringle in WCCW.

Calling Britt Baker's gimmick "ridiculous" is stretching a little. I love how she berates everyone with technical dentistry talk and if i didn't know she was a dentist, i wouldn't not believe it.

I'm hoping there's a bit with Britt later on where she's in the dentist office with someone and they're going over her accolades. The person pipes off that she'll never win the AEW Women's Title. She sets them back and as the camera pulls away you hear screaming and the dentist drill.

I wouldn't technically count Britt Baker. She does perform dentistry in AEW That would be like including Kurt Angle had a wrestling gimmick

I did know of an independent wrestler that used Dragon Ball Z as part of his gimmick. I don't think he still uses it anymore though.

I know the big boss man was actually a correctional officer but there’s no way in hell he was a warden, not sure if Warden means something different in the UK but down here it means you run the prison
