My shamanic teacher said no one wanted to be a shaman in traditional Indigenous cultures. It was a very hard job; shamans usually died young. They were not rich or glamorous. They carried a huge responsibility in their community, and the only way to be called to be a shaman was to survive a near-death experience or to have a very powerful shamanic dream that had ot be verified by the elders in the group. Then you went through strict training for many years. You had to ask the ayahuasca planet if she would let her work with you my friend who is a Peruvian Born shaman. It took him 12 years before the plant allowed him. This is all too commercialized these days. Train with traditional elders for years and years required sacrifice.

One key characteristic of the shaman is they are a vital protector to keeping their tribe fed, safe and well; with the special ability to access spiritual information. It is a life devoted to others, with the psychic ability to communicate in altered states, often with nature spirits, that can give vital information that helps the tribe.

I think the ancestral bloodline and/or past life factor plays a big role in this. According to an intuitive British lady named Magenta Pixie, souls that were previously incarnated in ancient tribes/communities worldwide who had conscious awareness of their connection to the stars, are now incarnated again within those family bloodlines (in a more modern guise). Their energy is needed at this crucial time of earth and humankind's transition. This also applies to people who have been born into families whose ancestors were either farmers, herbalists, priests, practising witches or warlocks (wizards), or gypsies/travellers. Included in this are not only people reborn back into the Aborigine bloodlines, various African bloodlines, the Inuits (eskimo), the Maoris of New Zealand, indigenous Hawaiians, Native Americans -- but also particular French bloodlines and the Celtic bloodlines (Irish, Scottish, Welsh). Personally, I've been born into an Irish bloodline (a very ordinary Irish family) and, in recent years, fairies/elemental beings have come into my awareness strongly. I've gone from having no belief in fairies, to having to accept them being around me all day, every day. They are with me right now. What's surprised me most about these creatures is that they are part-physical/part-spirit (they often touch my face gently with their hands, but they can also "float" themselves from A to B), have beating hearts (I hear and feel their heart beats constantly), are humanoid in form and are similar in height to myself. Never mind the silly Disney depictions of "Tinkerbell": it's been a revelation for me that fairies are actual *living* , semi-corporeal beings with beating hearts, minus wings (they don't need wings). They hear what I say to them (they respond with touch), but they are basically non-verbal. Their nature is very light-hearted, loving, affectionate, playful and loyal. Fairies are also healers and are especially adept at energy healing (similar to archangels, albeit less powerful than them) and the rapid healing of skin, e.g. cuts, burns, grazes. I wouldn't describe myself as having any "special abilities" (I'm normal), but I've always been sensitive to energies, atmospheres and people and I've had a few strange, unexplainable (paranormal) experiences over the years. I also feel more connected to, and more at ease with, the natural world, including animals, of course (especially cats, who, incidentally, just like dogs, are able to see fairies and spirits). 🙂I've often seen my cats suddenly purring with pleasure and "kneading the dough" with their paws in response to the fairies petting them. Fairies seem to reside within a dimension that's very close to our own (apparently, we are now living within a lower-4th-dimensonal reality that appears virtually indistinguishable from the 3rd dimension), but are bilocational (being in two locations simultaneously). I thought this information might be helpful, useful or interesting to someone else. 🙂

Interesting video. I think a big flag, to follow a shamanic path, is that no matter how settled and calm people I meet are, or appear to be, my authenticity brings out the wounds and "shadows" of said people.

I have been on some sort of “path” for the last 40 years. For myself, it has all been about allowing and seeking the guidance from the “spirit-world”. What or who I have thought my spirit guide to be has shifted through the years and I don’t place any real focus on the “who/what”. As a surrendered soul and a open minded person working within my community as a regular guy, I am available to those I cross paths with. My greatest “super-power” is awareness. The only title that I would seek for myself would be ….artist. I don’t feel any pressure or weight form my path, I am not walking this alone, it is not mine, and there is nothing that I can’t handle with “ God’s” help.

I constantly keep experiencing very vivid dreams, and premonitions, like, I met someone once, and I saw her appear in a dream, she changed from bear to human and back, and I can see auras super clearly, a good reader of energy and I often feel timeless. I have too many synchronicities in life, that I can't explain, and I feel a calling, as I wake up, that I am open to corruption, and I am a peacemaker. A spiritual teacher. It’s took so long to know who I was and will be ….in my mid age my past was a journey to other world till now ….finally knowing something call shaman ❤

This is me in so many ways omg I think my whole life actually.

I always had a feeling that I was to become a shaman when I was younger ever growing up as a Christian. As a teenager I was so I to tarot cards, palm reading and etc. I found out I have spiritual guides. This is the reason why growing up, I always want to help people, love the health care and always feel like I never fit it. Through out the past 15 years it has been traumatic events after one another. I love two baby to still births,my older son was always sick, was very poor.

I never heard of a shamanic awakening until I read a book on different types of awakenings last month. Then a week later I was learning about Gene Keys and one of my Gene Keys is #33 was the Medicine Woman or the shaman-embodied. I was so shocked and not quite sure what to think about that but it felt like the universe was guiding me to this knowledge. So I have been trying to learn more about what a shaman is. I have had SO many dreams in my life. In one dream I was some kind of healer in a past life but I was labeled a witch and I died in the dream by jumping off a tall building because I did not want to be burned at the stake. I also have had a few NDEs as a kid. One when I was 6 after i stuck a fork in an electrical outlet and another at 12 when I fell out of a tree but I was saved by the WIND. That was when I first started to hear spirit. They told me I have a mission. One thing they said to me a couple years ago was, "the time for fun and games are over and its time to do the work to be the boots on the ground." So I said to them, ok what do I need to do. They said, "You will know when the time is right." 🤔 So I am doing my best to follow their guidance but its not easy trying to figure out this puzzle I have been given called life. This is so crazy that I’m even lead into listening and drawn to these things... I’ve just had an extreme traumatic event from an intimate relationship with a narcissist, it only lasted 8 months... my life is upside down, no doctors can figure out what’s wrong with health. It’s been a year now, and I know for sure this is now a spiritual illness. My cat has changed, I only talk to 3 people now, all my family died and my best friend. I’ve been isolating for a year now by choice, the collective energy is so crazy that I want nothing to do with it (and it’s programming). I cannot watch tv or listen to music anymore. Artificial sounds are nothing me, such as graders and car alarms, and they seem to keep expanding into “more of” my nerves are buzzing and vibrating constantly. I have never had health issues in my 49 years of life here. Am I experiencing an initiation in your opinion?

Hello, I had a weird experience after smoking cannabis a couple months back. I went on a journey inside my mind and my body that took me to a "place" that I somehow knew it was the place from which all things come out of. It was total stillness and infinite and I saw a geometric pattern that my mind associated in the shape with an angel and which I keep finding around me. In that place, I saw something that looked like a library where everything that exists was put on shelves and ordered. One of each kind. (search the matrix scene with the weapons hall, except it was only one, not many of each) .I felt the most love and weirdly at the same time I had the feeling of death, but it was ok, it was so beautiful. The depth of the enormity of that love and of the silence from that place and my inability to completely feel that was turning into the death feeling. Also while being there, I had this feeling of...something is about to happen, these things are about to move, but they aren't YET. When I "returned" here , that peace and silence slowly started to dance and exponentially turned into the loudest noise possible, and from that noise - beam I was right here back. Does this ring a bell to someone ? I made some drawings of that experience, if anyone is interested please let me know and I can share. It's an experience that influenced my life a lot, I now am convinced that after I die there is something else, I dunno what, but that's how I feel. After this experience, I had a synchronicity the SAME DAY. A friend came to my place and we ended up talking about my experience. One thing led to another and we reached the scene from Interstellar where the character goes into the black hole Gargantua, and I couldn't believe the amount of similarities between my experience and that scene from the movie. It's mind boggling. If anyone has any insight into this or has gone through something similar, please let me know. I would highly appreciate it.

In my case it's weird: I feel like being a shaman is something that would suit me and my talents, and something I'm very drawn to as well, but i don't have the feeling I'm gonna receive this calling in this life time. I don't have any ancestor who has been a shaman, I think I might have been one in a past life though. Maybe in this lifetime I need to get closer to this world to familiarize with it, for then maybe becoming shaman in a future lifetime

Thank you for a very interesting explanation. I don't have any of the signs you mention only pain in my heart for the suffering of this planet and all the animals and plants on it. The pain leads me to anger for not being compassionate enough to dedicate more time in service of the planet. It is hard for me to disappoint people who expect me to act normally. One thing though does happen to me. Not a good thing. Both my cats seem to need healing for one cause or another. As soon I start drifting away from this field of interest one cat or the other is getting sick and I need to go back to healing sessions. I know plenty of other people owning cats and they don't seem to have any problem with them. My two cats are still young but they have both little nagging health issue even though the cats are unrelated. Could be just bad luck.

Interesting! I was born an Irish man but I work with my Native American ancestors and would see myself as a Native American chief in my healings. My main guide is also a Native American chief. I’ve also seeing the incarnations I had as an indigenous shaman in several lifetimes. The work I do is journeying into the shadow of the client and the underworld rescuing fragments of the self etc. Can I call myself a shaman? When I was about 10 YO, I spontaneously got a new friend in my imagination. To make a long story short, this apparition had the form of a brilliant 25 YO man in my mind’s eye. His guidance was so helpful that I welcomed him and kept him on to this day, way after my childhood. Unconventional as it was, I open mindedly accepted my new "silent partner". This is years before I had any idea of spirituality. He turned out to be more than an "imaginary friend" however. I wondered why he was always 25 YO while I was aging. Some time back I had to know more. To make a long story short, I did automatic writing nightly for weeks. My friend may have frozen to death at age 25 in NE Siberia in the 19th century after being chased for some reason. Wish I could collect more specific evidence, but it's all rather fragmented. As a sidelight, I've always had a "north" obsession, even though I'm in California. Visited the USSR way back and have been to Canada many times in all seasons. My vacations have always been north and sometimes very cold. I stream a favorite radio station in Winnipeg, Manitoba (CKCL) and watch CBC The National nightly for news. Etc.. North addiction. Although primarily a techie, I came to have the signs you mention. They were imposed on me, no choice. I'm also in the midst of a second spiritual awakening, which was spontaneous, unexpected, and became stressful.

To be a shaman you have to go through 3 ego deaths. Sickness, near death experiences, lighting strikes. Life strips you of ego so can have hallow bones. Speak the truth voice. You don’t choose the path. It chooses you. And it’s a really really hard path. The difference between a healer/light worker and a shaman is a shaman is a door keeper. We can open doors to other words and help people go on journeys safely.
