Vader knew he had a son because the rebels were spreading it around that a young pilot named Skywalker, son of a Jedi, destroyed the Death Star. And Vader knew of only one Jedi named Skywalker.
@andrewhart93102 жыл бұрын
Yeah, it seemed kind of obvious to me, given that no one ever bothered to change their names. Vader fights Obi Wan, who is running around with this force-sensitive kid, whom Vader later learns is named Skywalker and pilots an X-Wing to destroy the death star. Not too hard to put those pieces together. Doesn't need to happen on screen.
@stevegallo84832 жыл бұрын
Vader knew he had a son, because the Emperor told him about the "son of Skywalker" in Empire. Remember when the Emperor via hologram summoned Vader about a great disturbance in the force. That disturbance was Luke.
@andrewhart93102 жыл бұрын
@@stevegallo8483 My broader point was that I don't think he even needed that from the Emperor at that point. IIRC, Vader didn't display any surprise about the "son of Skywalker." It was more like, "Yes, mmhmm. Yup. Got it, boss." If he had no idea at that point that he had a son, I would have expected a serious head fake, a "What" ... something. It was pretty easy for Vader to piece it all together without needing on-screen exposition. The Emperor pointing it out fits with that logic already. Perhaps he told him previously (off-screen) in more detail, but it hardly matters. :)

You know, my big problem with episode IX wasn't really how it brought the previous big bad back without any explanation. I could have lived with them pulling a "The Master" ressurection if there was any previous hint or indication that he was going to show up. It was more the way the whole thing seemed to say "you know all that stuff that went on in the last two movies you watched? Yeah well, we're not doing that anymore, here's something else." There was no buildup or foreshadowing whatsoever to any of the major elements of that movie, and precious little even for small things. So instead of concluding the trilogy they had, I could only assume they decided for some reason they had to write the ending to a different trilogy. And it looked like it could have been an interesting story, but it wasn't, because they had forgotten that important little bit of storytelling where they actually tell the story.

@barbarossarotbart Жыл бұрын
No, the EU was a much bigger mess that what we have got now. There have been great stories but there also have been very weak stories and many contradictions. Disney did the right thing by declaring the whole EU not canon. The many problem with the sequel trilogy is that they did not have a complete story for all three movies and every director could do what he wanted. It is interesting that there is hardly any new material for the sequel era. They know that fans hate it, so they concentrate on those eras fans love. Before you say anything about how great the EU was, please remember that there was no creative control in the early years. The Thrawn-trilogy was written at the same time as the Dark Empire-trilogy but the writers of both trilogies did not communicate with each other and thus both trilogies contradict eachother. And this is just one example from the early years. Although they tried to fix the mistakes they've made, they did not succeed and the mess got bigger and bigger. And the reason is quite simple: they considered every novel and every comic and every computer game canon, even if they contradict each other. How many stories about the Deathstar plan did the EU have? It was possible to save the EU. They simply had to declare which part of it is canon and which is not. But at the time The Clone Wars was broadcast, because with this show every single novel or comics taking place during the clone wars suddenly was not canon anymore. That's the reason that removing the EU from Star Wars canon was a very good thing, because they could start with a blank slate which allowed much more creative freedom and new stories to tell.

Speak for yourself about certain 'mysteries' being decades in the coming. Some of these questions WERE answered by the old EU, which was canon, before it was eliminated. For instance, Luke's hand and saber was indeed found by Palpatine, who took it to his secret base on Wayland. Years later, the cloned jedi C'baoth found the hand and lightsaber and created a clone Luke to be his apprentice. Also, the canon Shadows of the Empire multimedia event explained what happened to Han. The heroes chased Boba Fett around for several months, before Boba eventually made it to Jabba's Palace. Also... Jabba didn't need to have an auction for it, since he had already placed a bounty on Han Solo, and Boba Fett, being a bounty hunter, was collecting on it.

At the end of "Temple of Doom" Indiana Jones says " I believe in the power of the stones" yet near the beginning of "Raiders" Indy says to Marcus " I don't believe in any superstitious hocus pocus"

Number 8 has me confused. So did Vader just forget that Luke was his son until the emperor told him in the empire strikes back? The emperor says "I have no doubt this boy is The offspring of Anakin Skywalker" to which Vader replies "how can this be?" Then the emperor says "search your feelings and you will know it to be true"

The c3po arm story arc is a (great) playable story level in Lego Star Wars: The Force Awakens. There was a dlc that added 3 missions set before TFA and that was one of them.

The story of the hand is a Di$Ney retread. In the expunged legend, Vader retrieved the hand and the sabre as trophies for his master. This would be revealed in the Thrawn trilogy (that would have made for much better sequels IMO) when Luke met his clone, Luuke Skywalker who was created from the aforementioned appendage.

Number 1 shows how much more dangerously cunning Palpatine was as he made sure there was so much pain and suffering in the universe that when Order 66 was carried out the Jedi were defenseless

Luke’s hand was recovered by the Empire and was used by the mad Jedi clone Joruus C’Baoth to create a clone of Luke that he used as a Dark Jedi apprentice in the Thrawn trilogy.
@TheMimiSard11 ай бұрын
The severed hand being caught and used for a clone also happened in the "Heir to the Empire" novels as well. The third book of the trilogy had issues with some clones of a Jedi, Joruus C'baoth, and of course, a clone of Luke. Yes, those novels are now Legends, so maybe that comic is borrowing the same concept, that someone caught them and was using it for cloning experiments.

Yoda not recognizing R2-D2? There are hundred thousands of R2 droids in the galaxy and you expect him to recognize him as the droid of Jedi? He hardly had any contact with R2 and they have certainly not been friends. What is actually more surprising is that R2 did not recognize Yoda and tell Luke about him, at the latest, when Yoda was actually in front of them.
@dabeerdsgamer77632 жыл бұрын
IIRC during the "yoda arc" of season 6 of TCW, R2 was the astromech in his ship; a little plot convenience to add a second major character to the story. What about when Luke and Obi Wan first meet in ANH? why didn't R2 blab about Obi Wan to Luke?

I hate that the sequel trilogy never explained details and plot holes and it was left to the comic books writers to do it. The comics were great, but “Somehow palpatine returned” is not an explanation

How did Vader know Luke was his son? Easy- When Luke enters Leia’s cell on the Death Star he says “I’m Luke Skywalker, I’m here to rescue you…. I’m here with Ben Kenobi…., yada, yada”. It’s pretty safe to assume they had security cameras and Vader watched the VHS tape and put 2 and 2 together.

All Astro mechs made the same noises and I’m sure there were other R2 units were made the same color scheme. Yoda in the clone wars had a mission with R2 but I’m sure he has seen so many droids. It’s not as important as the force and no attachment

I always thought that it would have been more interesting if the Knights of Ren were padawans that Ben Solo took with him when he left/burned Luke's Jedi temple. This based on the alternate story line where Ben and Rey were both padawans to Luke and Ben was threatened by Rey's prowess as a Jedi.

Palpatine returning as a clone is 100% not absurd for Star Wars lore. His force precognition, all of the preparations and contingencies, large scale manipulation, and strength in using the force are very consistent with the character
@MrIDK29942 жыл бұрын
It’s dumb, and it shouldn’t have been what they went with for the movie, but it is absolutely consistent with Palpatine and entirely plausible for Star Wars. Rey being his daughter/granddaughter is essentially the same thing he did with Anakin. If The Rise of Skywalker had been released as a noncanon book instead, fans would have been going crazy and telling everyone to read it.

Okay but also had Disney had put all this stuff explaining the sequel trilogy in a animated show (which they still might do) y’all would love it. It’s the whole reason most of the WhatCulture team like/love the prequel trilogy. Just saying, all throughout starwars they’re have been crazy things happening with no explanation until it’s explained later.
