I decided to add this: When buying a quality suit, they will usually come with a small square of fabric made from the suit with a button on it. A lot of people think it's for mending a tear and a spare button. That's not its real purpose. Its real purpose is so the dry cleaner can test the chemicals they are going to use to clean it to make sure it doesn't damage the fabric, stitching, or buttons. Funny random fact that just seemed fitting in a video like this. Just another sign of quality.

The advice about practicing wearing the suit is spot on. I have a friend who has a terrific build for suits but he doesn’t like calling attention to himself so he feels awkward in them and since he doesn’t wear it often he feels uncomfortable. I admit i have a less overall fit for a suit but i break them in. I get used to them for how I’ll walk, stand, sit, pose, dance, etc. plus i just like that i stand out and people take notice.

My grandfather was a tailor most his life and much as what you say here, he would agree with. He also was a very sharp dresser, his suits fit him very well and suitable. Great video and thank you.

Well you have to have good fitting clothes or no one's going to trust you as a tailor.

I agree. My grandfather was not a taylor though was extreamly good at marking suits for the taylor so the suit hangs on your body the best. I was taught that how well the suit is tailored can make an off the rack suit look extreamly expensive and fancy. I would like to add one of my bad experance. The last time I had my suit from a well known clothing store, and had the taylors makecitcwhilexi wore it so to adjust it to fit me well. Through that, I had found there are a lot of bad taylors who do not know how a suit should fit on the body, how a finish suit should fit, and how to make little adjustments that make giant differences to how it may look on you. Not just the jacket but also the slacks length, and how pleated from of slacks should fall. This tailor may havecknowing how to sow, but did not anything past that. The suit looked very poorly on me. Though granted, I also was familiar with how a very athletic build can be very difficult to adjust. After all you have to get an over size suit jacket to fit your shoulders, thickness of arms, giant chest compaired to a much smaller waist. What I had learned through this bad experance was it would had been better to ask beforehand, up front, if I was not happay with the tailoring, and/or they could not make it right, should I still have to buy the suit after the fact? Or, if you buy a suit and they have it tailored, to ask about any guarantees before it starts. In my case the taylor was trying hard to convenience me that all thecmistakesxshexmadecwas how it was supose to look. When I felt even an average person who did not have a family teach them right from wrong in this specific aspect, should have known. And, if they were not sure and happy with the fit, that they should have at least that feeling something is way off, and the taylor is now trying to con you into buying a suit now that was fitted very poorly. Anyone else have any suggestions along that bad experance? Maybe suggestions? Maybe how to find a good taylor?. I am guessing it may be like a good doctor. There are lots of doctors out there we can go to. But, to find a really good doctor, who is not just super nice and good with a common cold, but also really good when it is not the common cold and they need to figure out what it is, not make bad assumptions, and get it right without unneeded and unnecessary testing yo somehow drain your pocket, fill his pocket, waist time, energy, and resources you have, also to some how cover their asses running lots of bad test to end up nowhere or cover their back side in some waym The same also goes for finding good mechanics. They do a great job with out over pricing and draining the bank. Priced reasonable for the task at hand.

I think it is a good idea to bring 1 or 2 people you trust with you when buying a suit. While you can get a good sense of what you like by looking at yourself in the mirror, it is always good to have someone there that knows you, knows your personality and can look at the suit on you and that is valuable. Sometimes, but not always, the guy working in the store will just be there to try and sell you something and he/she might just agree with whatever you say even if it might not look good or two items that might not work well together. One last thing, suit shopping is always fun whether you are the one buying or just going to support a family member or friend so enjoy it.

My first job interview was at a fitness center for a lifeguard position. It would have been very weird to wear a suit in that situation. Mistake 5 hit the nail on the head. Perhaps you could do a video on alternatives to suits for different types of interviews?

Regarding suit cloth I would recommend you do not go above Super120 for an everyday wear suit. The finer grade cloths feel and look great as they often have cashmere woven into them but they do not stand up to heavy wear. But my top tip to get decent wear out of a suit is ALWAYS buy two pairs of pants at the time of purchase.

Mr. Centeno, I just want to thank you so much for what you have done for me this past year. I was dressing like a slob but I came across one of your videos one day and I got hooked! I started slow by going to value village and buying some jackets there and I became the best looking guy at my school. Girls started talking to me more and I'm a bigger guy, 230 pounds 5'9", so that doesn't happen to me a lot. I found my current girlfriend that way and she loves it when I dress up. You have really changed my perspective on men's fashion and how to send a message. From up here in Canada, thank you!

I always remove the stitching in the jacket pockets, even though I never use the pockets for items. Reason: Once removed, I now have the option to fold the flaps inside the pockets for a streamlined look, OR, keep the pocket flaps outside and over top of the pockets. I myself, prefer the flaps tucked in the pockets for that clean, crisp look.

I work for an online gaming/cycling company. Few people get through an interview if they're wearing a suit. So not all work places require that and some (like mine) outright reject it. But because of that, many of my coworkers have no idea how to dress for holiday parties.

This is a good guideline for people who want to learn more about suits and making suit purchases. Having a fit suit is definitely key since an expensive suit can still look bad if it looks too baggy on the wearer.

Hi Antonio! I just subscribed to your channel yesterday, and have already been through quite some videos. I'm 35, and will probably soon start on a white collar job. now, for the most of my life i was a nerd type but admittedly i never liked the modern wear, and preferred the "old" style pleated pants and shirts my grandfather wore (but was only ridiculed into not wearing them when younger). I'm now finally slowly coming around and must admit that one of the things that worried me about working in office was a complete lack of knowledge regarding men style, from wristwatches to matching suits... and this makes me a suicide bomber, socially. But in last two days i've immersed myself in your videos and i although i know this is only a start of a long and exciting route, here I want to express my gratitude for you making these videos. i believe they are a great boon to many, many men who had no-one to teach them. Thank you, and may God bless you and your family! Marko

I know you are a Veteran (thank you from one Vet to another) have you ever thought of doing a transitioning tutorial for those leaving the service. I reside near Ft.Bragg, NC. and I’m involved with many of the military and contractors. One of the hardest lessons for so many military (all branches) is understanding how to enter into the civilian realm with an emphasis on style. I have seen many a nightmare, from bright yellow suits to garrison cut trousers. We are talking about a great group of individuals and I would like to see the best for them.

To learn about, try on, feel, etc. lots of suits I checked thrift stores first. After doing that, I went to Nordstrom's Rack and every suit they had looked cheap and felt cheap (but they were cheap.) Then to Nordstrom's where I realized a "real" suit in my opinion will cost 1k. Something worth buying, that isn't going to feel cheap and or hot. They didn't have what their tailor was recommending, but could've ordered it. I wasn't ready, but later found it 50% off at Saks and got their last one. Fits lioe a glove. Feels sexy.

Something nobody ever seems to consider- make sure to stop in at your old local tailor shop ( if there are one or two in your town )... You d be surprised at how relatively inexpensive it is to have a suit CUSTOM made! You choose the material, the style of coat, lapels, jacket bottom, trousers... And the real tailor will help you along every step of the way. Custom two-piece suits usually start at around $700 or so. Do yourself a favor and check it out if you're fortunate enough to have an old tailor shop near you... They're altogether too quickly disappearing from the landscape!
