Have a look at Free Train for holding, keys, phone, snack. It’s reflective and because you wear it you don’t feel it and can check your phone while running. I’ve tried many types over the 20 years I’ve been running and Free Train is by far the best.

I’d like to add a must-have that likely won’t cost you anything: medical ID that you carry with you on every run (especially if you’re running alone). You should be able to put your information (name, age, medical conditions, emergency contacts, etc.) into your smartphone so that the info is accessible to emergency responders even if your phone is locked. An alternative would be to wear a bracelet or other article that contains this information. Stay safe out there!😊

Maybe massage gun, a good gear bag/suitcase to store everything you need for recovery and actual races, or a good sweat band to keep your eyes sweat free. Overall another good solid list video from the Running Channel. I have actually used worse dance moves but there was adult beverages involved, good show.

A lot of this gear, in my opinion (and a lot of people I run with) is very from must have! Something to carry your phone in? Leave it at home. A head torch? Unless you are running off road at night, there's no need. In fact, I would argue a head torch on the streets actually causes more issues, certainly for other runners running towards the wearer, some them cause so much glare. Waterproof jacket? Yes they exist, but you cook yourself running in them, a gilet is much better (you only need to protect your chest). Agree re decent trainers and watch, plus the occasional use of headphones (aftershoxz) for me.

Great video. Personally I've always been a fan of baseball caps for running. Helps keep the sweat and the sun away from the eyes. Really any one will do. I also like those athletic shirts that are good at wicking away moisture (unlike a regular cotton tee). They can be pretty cheap too.

Lovely job Sarah and Rick. Nice to see Rick looking so good and healing nicely. We've all been thinking about you and wish you the best recovery. Hard to imagine running without a Garmin. Maybe y'all should track down an older runner who ran pre Garmin and see how they did it, and if and how the Garmin has changed their running. Cheers all!
3 жыл бұрын
I ran for a couple of years wearing a Garmin GPS watch a heart rate monitor and a cadence sensor (I even used to listen to music with an iPod). I eventually suffered a running injury and it took quite a lot to heal so I lent that watch to my sister. She never turned it back so when I resume running I start carrying my smartphone (I still didn’t have any a decade ago). The thing is I haven’t missed a GPS sports watch since then. My smartphone has more features than any GPS watch could possibly have (e.g., a comprehensive geolocation built-in map app with all the trails and footpaths you may be able to take, numerous running apps to follow a route on a map, a torch for when it gets dark, a camera, and even a phone to make and receive calls), and it’s more affordable than most GPS sports watches. The only drawback I’m concerned is its battery life. I’ve run out of battery a few times so I recently got an auxiliary battery for the very long runs (up to 9 hours of battery life with moderate use of geolocation maps, torch and running apps vs.4-5 hours without it) and a couple of running shorts with pockets deep enough to carry that damn auxiliary battery in those very long runs (plus a Lightning-USB cable-bracelet).
