Great overview presented so clearly as always. Happily I was aware of almost all of these (KZfaq videos are a superb resource for learning tips and tricks). I love the three finger drag and it’s second nature now. I’ve tried ‘tap to click’ but I find I’m adept at selecting things I never meant to so I reverted to the default ‘press to click’ method instead. I’m just heavy handed.

It'd be great if you could tackle these issue as well, please: 1) Swipe up with three fingers reveals open windows - but they always change arrangement/order 2) No way to know if there is another window hiding behind the main window, e.g. Mail. I know Exposé but to do it always to check if there is a window open or not is nuisance 3) Sharing photos via WhatsApp: there is no extension for the Photos app, so the only way is via exporting them. I am talking about photos from iCloud originally taken on your iPhone. These are not files. 4) Double-tapping on the top of a window not always maximises it, despite it being set in the settings. Each app behaves differently. Some work, others don't 5) Apps open in the middle of the screen not maximised, even when I previously maximise them, force quit and re-open. 6) There're plenty more :-)

Thanks for another excellent video of tips! What I wish I could change in Mac OS is adding the suffix to created documents (.psd .pdf .docx .xlsx and so on) without adding the suffix to the application names. Having the suffix visible is helpful when sending documents to non-Mac users, so that they (and their Windows machine) can open it. There is a setting to make the suffix visible, but when activating it, every piece of data, including Applications, displays its suffix, and not just documents. As it stands now, I have to click command i (for information) and then uncheck hide data suffix, but I have to do this with each individual document. Having the suffix added (made visible) to Application names makes me feel like I’m using DOS.

I use both a Mac and Windows PCs and each of them have good UI things and bad UI things. The Mac commands to capture any piece of the screen were awfully slow in coming to Windows, for instance. Conversely, Windows has a very cool window snap feature that MacOS does not. One other thing that annoys me about MacOS that is probably much harder to fix is how closing an app's last window doesn't close the app. It needs a special command to exit the app.
@larshars5687

For the window alignment you can give rectangle a try. As for the exiting apps, i felt the same way when starting to use macOS, but now I actually prefer to use cmd+Q to quit an application

For the snap feature (I also hated losing this), you can hack it with App shortcuts using the Zoom feature (available normally if you hold option and hover on the green full-screen button). Assign "Zoom" to a shortcut for making a window full screen, or "Move Window Left/Right Side of Screen" to other shortcuts (respectively) to get that half page snap

I am daily frustrated by Windows 10 insisting on closing an application just because I closed the last window. It makes the “I’m done with this file, now I need to work on this other file” process needlessly slower and more convoluted. And apparently it’s not just me, because Apple introduced a feature that automatically quit applications with no open windows in Lion or Mountain Lion, and I just discovered that they mostly dropped it several macOS versions ago. It’s still there, but app developers have to opt-in to the feature. And apparently very few have. (I was going to tell you how to turn it on, and then discovered it hasn’t been option users can change since like 2018. I hadn’t noticed because I _hate_ that behavior and had always disabled it, so I hadn’t noticed the fact that I couldn’t explicitly _enable_ it anymore.)

I’m equally baffled. Maybe this is specific to the Apple Silicon MacBooks, for some reason? My Mac Mini by definition only has external displays, and I sometimes hook an external display up to my MacBook Air, and I’ve never encountered the scrolling direction spontaneously resetting, let alone resetting for just one display. And I’m using a Logitech mouse, and have been since Apple replaced the Mighty Mouse with the Magic Mouse.

Great and useful content and presentation as usual! I think the very useful "AutoFill" feature present in apple devices deserves to be discussed further because for me it is a hit or miss on iOS, iPadOS and MacOS.. (I am referring to manually inserting info from contacts or passwords as you write). This is very useful in different situations however it doesn't always work! As an example, in Apple store if you want to download an app and password protection is on, the field for writing down the iCloud password is not autofill compatible. However on iOS you can long-press and manually select autofill and then passwords. Now, if you choose and press the correct password to insert nothing happens. I have noticed manual autofill glitches like this across all Apple's OSs. It is very annoying because the workaround is time consuming.. Not being fixed definitely deserves some HATE!

It's funny how you can tell when someone's an old Mac user, I love 3 finger drag, I'm pretty sure that used to be the default, then they suddenly turned it into a hidden accessibility feature : /. There is one more that I'd like to add to this list, tapping on a word with 3 fingers to bring up the dictionary entry for the word: In System Settings -> Trackpad -> enable "Look up & data detectors". Now when you click on a word with 3 fingers, it'll pop up a little dictionary entry for the word.

Very useful. I’ve recently come from windows to Mac and almost regret it. Like not being able to use shift to click a range of files in finder if they are in thumbnail view. You really do realise how good windows explorer is when you use finder. Windows Copy and paste and delete with one tap buttons, and especially annoying is when you paste files into a folder on Mac and some already exist, having to press shift to get the skip option instead of stop. Why did they make it so user unfriendly?

Is there any particular reason for converting images to Webp? If it's about file size, I strongly suggest using HEIF instead as it's not only more efficient and therefore reduces file size significantly without quality loss, but you can directly convert images to HEIF in the Finder or through the Shortcuts application. Sadly, there is no native solution to convert JPG images to Webp in MacOS or Safari, but there are still solutions. If you really need to use Webp, you can install an image converter for this (for example AnyWebP) or use command-line tools like Webp which you can install with Homebrew. Other than that, you can also use another file format like HEIF instead. To convert images in Finder, right-click an image file, select Quick Actions, and then Convert Image. There you can select your desired file format (JPEG, PNG, or HEIF), change the image size, and remove the metadata. In Shortcuts, you can convert images to either JPEG, PNG, TIFF, GIF, BMP, PDF, or HEIF

@@gitefermetteenfrance Okay, try number two. KZfaq decided to discard my reply. Anyways, as I already mentioned macOS does not support Webp out of the box. You can however use the free and open-source command-line tool from Google to convert your images to Webp. Build a Shortcut on top of it and you can easily use it in Finder or in Safari to convert images on the go. The webp can be downloaded from the Google Developer page or through Homebrew. Then you can use cwebp to convert your images (I won't post any commands here as I fear this triggered KZfaq to disregard my last reply). However, if you need further assistance. Feel free to ask :)

One of the most frustrating issues I've encountered on Mac is with the Finder, especially when using multiple desktops. If you have a Finder window open on desktop 1 and click on the Finder icon on desktop 2, it takes you back to desktop 1. There are a couple of workarounds: (1) By assigning Finder to all desktops, but that can become quite messy. (2) Pressing Option+Command+Spacebar to invoke a Searchbar instance in Finder (regardless of desktop). Does anyone have a solution for this? I'd greatly appreciate any advice or tips on how to resolve this!"

**Every** desktop environment I have used on Linux handles virtual desktops much better than what macOS does. I really don't understand why Apple can't figure this out. Just give me a hot key that switches to another desktop. and make "alt tab" (command tab) constrained to the applications running in that virtual desktop. Also, I don't really need fancy animations. Just DO THE THING.

@@tomv3999oh, ugh, no! Then I’d have to first remember which desktop the window I want is on, switch to that desktop, and _then_ switch to that window. That’s no improvement. The whole reason that macOS’s virtual desktops are so great is how seamless they are - that I can separate things out into separate desktops but I_don’t_ have to think about those desktops except when I want to. Besides, the behavior you want is already there: swipe up to show all windows and you’ll only see the windows of your current desktop, until/unless you poke the top of the screen to expand the other virtual desktops. Assign a keyboard shortcut if you don’t want to use the trackpad/mouse for that. There are significant problems with macOS’s virtual desktops, but the fact that windows and programs don’t just “disappear” because they’re not on the current desktop isn’t one of them.

If you hover your cursor over the dock of the desired desktop before launching finder, it gets set to that desktop. I think I learned this from watching another KZfaq video about macOS hacks. Perhaps it's a clumsy solution, but it's become second nature to me now to do this before launching finder. You can just dip the cursor over the dock and then launch finder your usual way.

Downloaded Files Open Automatically: I am aware of this option, however, if you create a Desktop-App for a webpage (new in iOS 14) this option is not available, meaning that all files I.open from a webpage that I pinned as an app would still open automatically. Any workaround you are aware of?

I’d add the following. macOS sucks with file management on many levels. From wanting to merge folders and macOS just overwrites them over it planting hidden files on removable storage that disrupts its usage in other devices to it not being able to write to certain network drives correctly, like when you write on a public drive while being logged into an account it basically locks the written files to that account, even tho it’s on the public drive.
