Once I med surg lec started I would just read the chapters over 2-3 times. Once to highlight and grasp basic concept, a second to begin memorizing and forming foundation for critical thinking while taking notes in the book, third time to rev my notes/what I still didn't understand. That worked for me.

i’m in grade 11 right now and i’ve always has nursing in the back of my mind as a career option but i’m finally starting to take it more serious and i’m like 99.9% sure it’s what i want to do. if i’m being honest my grades aren’t very high atm but i know if i truly focus and try my hardest that i can get my average way up there. i’m scared but videos like yours encourage me! also my boyfriend’s sister in law recently passed her nclex and is working now and i’m happy i know her because i know i can ask her questions anytime and it makes me feel a bit better about my decision :)

What I wished I knew before I tried it the first time last fall was how to study and answer NCLEX questions. I am currently in 10th grade and thinking I want to be an L&D nurse, I'm freaking out because my grades are slipping in math, but I'm not sure what all kinds of math are super important in nursing. Of course there are things like figuring out how much meds to give, but are things like geometry and simplifying radicals super necessary? And what all extra classes should I take in highschool to help me do well in nursing school?

I absolutely love all of your videos! I am currently a dual enrollment student in Highschool, and I have taken only 6 college course classes so far, I’ll be graduating this year but I was wondering if it would be smart to complete all of the pre reqs for nursing school at a community college & transfer to a University for my BSN?
@Abigaellanai
@Abigaellanai 5 жыл бұрын
I think that’s a great option! Obviously it’s your decision, there’s pros and cons to everything, and you have to do what’s best for you but I personally think it’s a great idea. It will save you money on prerequisite courses for sure! One thing to consider - some universities will accept you right into the nursing program if you agree to start at their school as a freshman, and do prerequisites with them. Then you don’t even have to apply to the program you’re already in! So if a school is offering you that I’d take it, nursing programs are so competitive to get into that that could be really helpful ☺️ otherwise I think doing prerequisites at a community college is a great option!

yes YES YES!! I just graduated from high school in June with all my prenursing classes done and I’m starting a nursing program this winter!! I HIGHLY recommend the Saunders NCLEX book! The key to being able to answer NCLEX style questions is to PRACTICE them over & over & also know your core content. If you really know & understand the content you can answer any question. Memorization won't really cut it in nursing school! You have to be able to apply your knowledge and critically think. It is 100% doable!! Good luck.

Hey Abby! Love your videos!! So I am about to graduate from nursing school. I just received an offer for a level IV NICU job at a Children's hospital in Michigan, which I'm super excited about! I loved your video you did with your mom and I was just wondering what inspired you to go for nursing and are you thinking NICU as well?
@Abigaellanai
@Abigaellanai 4 жыл бұрын
Hey girl! Ahhhh congratulations about your NICU position that’s amazing! 😍 so long story short - senior year of high school I was torn between teaching and nursing. I went with teaching, got into the courses and hated it and immediately knew I needed to change to nursing. And I’ve loved it since then! I’ve always been good at science and loved healthcare so I’d say that’s a piece of it. Also, I am thinking NICU! I wasn’t at the beginning of my program but now I can’t imagine being anywhere but with babies + Peds 😍 I’m also a preemie so it feels really special to me to be able to give back to a community that is a huge piece in why I’m alive today ☺️

Hey abby ! I'm a pre nursing student and I apply to nursing school in 1 year. I have a 2 year old boy and I know how serious it will be. My mom is a nurse and my parents are supporting me through this time. I'm not sure if you have kids but , how will I be able to set aside a little bit of time for my son ? I want to make sure that he's not left out of my journey
@Abigaellanai
@Abigaellanai 4 жыл бұрын
Hi Kayla, I’m not a mom so I can’t answer this as well as a mom could but there are ladies in my cohort that her moms and I think it just comes down to balance for them. Sometimes they have to sacrifice time with their kiddos, and other times they don’t! One Mama in my class tends to push her homework/studying off until her kids have gone to bed and then she’s a night owl! So i think it just comes down to managing your time and finding where you can fit studying and kiddo time in here and there.

Can I be a nurse if I'm a very nervous, introverted person? I feel like I'd be fine once I'd get into the swing of things. I do like helping people and I currently work at a nursing home in the kitchen. Thank you for your very informational videos!

Absolutely! Everyone has a different role in nursing, there are so many avenues you can go down, even jobs that aren’t in hospitals as a nurse! Medical equipment sales, forensic nursing, nursing law, school nurses! There’s a bunch of options ☺️

Hii!! I know im very late and you might never see my comment but im taking the chance .. soo i applied for nursing school because ive NEVER been as passionate about anything as much as im passionate about nursing , but there's one thing thats scaring me and its the fact that im a hypochondriac :( do you think I cant be a nurse if I have hypochondria?
@Abigaellanai
@Abigaellanai 4 жыл бұрын
Hi there! Always send your comments, it’s never too late for me to possibly see them ☺️. That’s a hard question for me to answer as I don’t know you personally or how hypochondria effects you. I think if you feel it’s something you can manage that wouldn’t impact the way you provide care for patients, then you could be a great nurse! But that’s a decision you’ll have to think on for yourself and decide what works best for you ☺️

I failed nursing school 2 times you can’t get below a 2.0.........which is a strict 80% and they don’t average the 3 different scores, if the averaged, clinical, lecture and lab, I would’ve passed both times, over a 1/3 of my graduating class failed

That’s just the grade scale that came up when I googled “grade scale”. I should’ve paid more attention and researched the most commonly used grading scale but that was the first one I saw! It was strictly for reference that an 80% is much higher than “passing” in a non-nursing program. Hope that helps clarify! ☺️
