I lived in Taiwan for a few years and this was our go to place for celebratory dinners and whenever we had any visitors come. We were ALWAYS looking for a reason to eat here. This is by far the best restaurant!

I’ve been to a couple Din Tai Fung. They are fine but are expensive considering what they serve. XiaoLongBao in Shanghai are like $1.50 for 10. Din Tai Fung charges like $12-$15.

I worked at the one at valley Fair for about 7 months being in the back of the house is a whole different story well just working there in general all that product comes Frozen I would say about 70% of the food you eat there's Frozen the only thing they make fresh there is the dumplings

What you ate at Ding Tai Fung restaurant is more like “Taiwanese” food than “Chinese” food. Food in Taiwan is no longer very Chinese.😊

My wife and I are headed to Taiwan next month to visit her family. We always make a point to go there at least a hand full of times. We've had DTF in a few different countries, but Taiwan seems to be the best place. In other countries I think they're franchised out, so it all depends on how they're run when it comes to quality/consistency. Also, my wife wanted me to point out that this is Taiwanese cuisine....not Chinese. Different :)

I discovered it when I visited Taiwan before opened wide in the US. Actually, it was opened for at least 10 years at Arcadia CA. Chinese food consists of many cuisines. Dumplings is a special category that is popular in Taiwan. That’s why presentation is unique. Just my opinion.

Love Din Tai. Only complaint is that it’s a little pricey

Well, Chinese people do eat Kung Pao Chicken. It is a popular Sichuan dish called 宫保鸡丁。Yeah, that's true, waiters here are rude. Service doesn't come to you if you don't yell at them to come. That being said, it also isn't considered rude to yell at them to come help you. Oil is huge here, Chinese use so much oil when cooking. So much so that many times when I return to America i realize we use even less than Chinese people. Which is quite hard to believe. The oil isle here in grocery stores is insane. You many times have an entire isle dedicated to big jugs of oil alone. Just imagine a whole isle a Wal-Mart with Oil. Yeah, that yelling to get seated thing is very real in China/Taiwan. Being loud in general is part of the culture LOL.

The restaurant is very famous and popular in Taiwan, they are clean and efficient..But honestly the food quality is not as good as before and sadly the price is getting higher and higher.. 🙄

I like DTF. I guess it depends on your preference of food

Din Tai Fung restaurants are pretty much like night and day... The ones in Bangkok are insanely bad and slow, the ones in Japan are superb, the ones in Hong Kong and Taiwan are great, the ones in Singapore are meh.

I’m chinese and my favorite food is Xiao Long Bao (XLB), however I’ve eaten at DTF and had XLB in Arcadia (before they moved to Costa Mesa) only once b/c it’s was so awful. In fact everything I had that day was awful and way way overpriced. I have never eaten at the Costa Mesa location b/c I refuse to wait 2 hrs and pay more than twice as much. I have been to DTF in shanghai it was 3x the price as other competitors near by on Nanjing Rd. Although it was one of the best XLB when taking the perfect appearance of each XLB into account, but still doesn’t justify the price. Chris, I have LOVED every single of one your videos, but I can’t even bear to finish watching this one b/c it give a lot of misinformation. DTF doesn’t specialize in northern Chinese food, it specializes in southern. XLB is a Shanghai specialty and also served in other cities close by such as Wuxi, Suzho, Hangzhou region. Basically if you love to wait a long time to eat and pay double for your food, go to DTF. If you are near Brea, CA go to Super Juicy Dumpling, reasonable price and reasonable wait on weekdays.
