I was baptized Lutheran April 25, 1965 as an infant and later baptized into the Baptist Church in June 1992 by immersion. I held in high regard my first baptism so at my second baptism I declared it for righteousness sake. When I entered the Catholic Church my Lutheran baptism was valid with original documentation. All I had to do is Confirmation and receive my first Eucharist at the Easter Vigil 2009, after completing RCIA. I now view my first baptism like the parting of the Red Sea and the second as the parting of the Jordan River. Now I'm home in the Catholic Church my promised land.

God bless you, man. I can relate through certain experiences I've had as a kid outside of the Church. I couldn't imagine how terrible it would be to have the two conflated. My heart goes out to you, brother. It truly does. You'll be in my prayers. All I can say now is - the past is dead, look to your immediate future. The Holy Spirit is with you, that's for sure. Embrace the Sacraments wholeheartedly, and let your inner-strength be a signal of hope for all who have suffered. I have complete faith in you, my brother.

My dad was always a good man of faith. He was the oldest son and he had to stop school and work to help support his family of six sisters and brothers. He said his baptism just sort of got forgotten about along the way. He lived his whole life as a a good person. He attended church with my mother and I while I was growing up and supported everything. He finally asked for baptism when he was in hospice care. We lost him 10 years ago tomorrow and I thank you for bringing me back that memory today. My son helped the pastor by holding the water cup. xoxo

Grace be to God for that, brother! It brings up an excellent point, too. Inviting even those of a more lackadaisical variety to *integrally participate* in the faith, with proper instruction, can often lead them to a much deeper spiritual life. How many of us have returned to the Church with an even deeper zeal after, let's say, a funeral? How many of us have been inspired by the fruits of the saints among us, or even those striving to be saints, as they live out their faith by their actions? Especially in a world where it's considered so unfashionable to immerse yourself in scripture (which is regrettably understandable to some degree, given the wretched hypocrisy of so many who preach it), those corporeal works of mercy do really go a long way. Burying the dead, feeding the poor, and living out the beatitudes are often far better communicators of the faith to the many prodigal sons in waiting than simply hollering at them and expecting a positive response. I'm so glad that you were entrusted by the parents with such a great responsibility, and in such a way that illuminated the fullness of that grace to which you were called! It's such a profound blessing.

I apparently missed something...are those bobbleheads of the Saints?! How can we get a hold of these treasures? Also, EWTN used to have an old TV show where questions were emailed in on old analog computer. Fr. Trigilio said that if your children baptize their friends that it's illegal but still efficacious if done in the name of the Holy Trinity. Has this changed or is Father incorrect?

@samanthaallerton3851
@samanthaallerton3851 9 ай бұрын
Roman Catholics view organ and tissue donation as an act of charity and love, as reported in the Catholic publication Origins in 1994. Transplants are morally and ethically acceptable to the Vatican.
@ignatiusjackson235
@ignatiusjackson235 3 ай бұрын
That's a great idea for an episode! In the meantime, I'll try to shed some light on this. First and foremost, you're right to draw a distinction between (1) being an organ donor and (2) donating one's body to science. Those are two very different scenarios. As an organ donor myself, I see absolutely no problem with that. There are those who require medical help, and you have the ability to allow your body to continue doing that beatific work on your behalf even after your death! That's an outstanding opportunity to (literally) give of yourself in order to help others, which is exactly what we're called by Christ to do. You wouldn't be prohibited from giving your brother a kidney while you're both still alive. You surely wouldn't be prohibited from doing so after you leave this earth! Donating your body to science is a bit more sketchy. Even with full assurance that your corpse wouldn't be used for unethical purposes, which is practically impossible to obtain given the widespread lack of biological ethics in the general sciences today, it's still not a very well-regulated industry. Yes, I did say "industry," because that's often how it's treated these days. There have been documented reports of unsavory characters exploiting the process for their own monetary gain in reprehensible ways. John Oliver did a whole episode about this. He's not always the most orthodox, to say the least, but his coverage on this particular topic is more thorough and rigorous than I could ever be here. If it could somehow be verified to fit a particularly ethical cause, certain cases might be acceptable to the Church, but it's not something I would ever chance. TL;DR Organ donation 👍 Body to science 👎

Jesus explains pretty much immediately why he was baptized. John even said "I need to be baptized of you." And Jesus replied "suffer it to be so, for it becometh us to fulfill all righteousness" what's so confusing? Along with being God he was also man which means as a man he had to fulfill this pious and righteous act. Being The most righteous of all men; the divine archetype who is the example of a perfect man fulfilled this duty of mankind that is Gods will for all of humanity. It's heavily implied right there in the text.

I wish you would have said more how you think John the Baptist put a "new spin" on baptism. He was a Jew who had Jews come out to the wilderness to hear him and followed him in the long practiced ritual of "baptism" ALL IN OCCORDANCE WTIH THE MIKVAOT! Nothinghg new there. So If you found something new...l. please explain.

I debate the facts about Elijah. Was John the Baptist Elijah I don’t think so. Did Elijah appear to Jesus with Moses spiritually I think so. The four gospels have different takes on baptism. Elijah is the prophet of fire. John the Baptist who wanted to be baptized by Jesus but Jesus was humble to be baptized by John the Baptist is the prophet of water in my eyes. So I believe one hand washes the other. I think and I see that Elijah send to fire and the Baptist-ism was used to the Holy Spirit to equalize this situation between fire and water and the ongoing discussion between Elijah John the Baptist and Jesus. The grace and peace washes away or sins. Jesus was a Jew and the gospel of Matthew proved he was the king of Jews.Some Muslims believe Jesus didn’t have the same type of sins Roman Catholics believe and deny the crucifixion and teach their kids in some odds that Judas was crucified instead because God will never embarrass his son. These topics should be looked at and taught separation from church and state. Concretely versus abstractly I understand more than I speak the Elijah theory unfortunately separates the king of the Jews and the Judas theory separates the Holy Spirit of Jesus Christ.

Acts 2:38 KJV “38 Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.” They were literally baptizing in Yeshua’s name, NOT “Father, Son, & Holy Ghost.” No one was baptized in titles in the Bible MATTHEW 28:19 was CHANGED by the Roman Catholic Church (look it up). The original said ““With one word and voice He said to His disciples: “Go, and make disciples of all nations in My Name, teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you,” And furthermore, do not undermine the baptism of the Holy Ghost & fire??? Water ALONE is not salvation so waiting until you’re on your deathbed 🤔 You’re not manipulating God. Period. John 3:5 “Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God.” Also I am not a proponent of allowing someone who themselves are not saved to baptize others unauthorized.

@@CatholicTalkShow uh judging by your response, you must not of read my post 🙄 why don’t you read the Bible in it’s entirety sometime? Jesus was talking to His disciples in Matthew 28 and they understood the assignment; they were NOT confused. Were they baptizing in the book of Matthew???????????????? No they weren’t but over in the book of Acts, they were actually doing the baptizing and they were baptizing in “Jesus” name. Acts is the birth of the Church, they obeyed Jesus’ commandments from Matthew 28:19 (a verse the Catholic Church CHANGED-but no mention of that from you huh) in Acts hence Acts 2:38! Point to me the scripture in the Bible where someone was actually baptized “Father, Son, & Holy Ghost.” This is something you Catholics started and you wonder why there was so many budding Protestant churches after y’all starting CHANGING scripture and making it doctrine. You’re not the first church as you claim because you strayed from scripture. You don’t reflect Acts. That should be a concern for you or maybe you’re okay with denying scripture just enforce your “religion.” 😒 Stop teaching the gospel if you’re not going to teach it accurately!

@@CatholicTalkShow first of all I wouldn’t consider myself a kiddo being 23 years old 😅 and secondly, what’s the reason to baptise a child rather than wait for it to be become a little older and make the decision voluntarily? I know a little bit about the tradition of infant baptism and basically the church is meaning to deliver the child from demons by baptising it & I think that’s just absurd
