Thank you so much for your tips! It was very helpful! And thank you for explaining a bit more in your blog. We are planning to visit Morocco this year. Just a small question on the budget, how much would you say, one need in order to stay 1 week in Marrakesh?
@KatieShowBlog
@KatieShowBlog 6 жыл бұрын
No problem at all and I'm so glad it was helpful! That's a tough one to answer because it depends on what's included with your accommodation, how you're getting around, what type of traveler you are, how many tours you're doing etc. but I would say just for food and getting around, I'd allow at least $50 a day to be comfortable.

Thanks for the 'media scare' thing. I loved Marrakech with it's sandalwood smelling air. The police really take care of their tourists, unlike here on Phuket where they are in on every scam and despite it's apparent laissez atmosphere can be very dangerous for travellers as there's no law enforcement and massive corruption.
@KatieShowBlog
@KatieShowBlog 6 жыл бұрын
Yes, I love that the police and many business owners took care of the tourists. When people told me about being scared to visit, I always said no, they want more people to visit so they do their best to take care of visitors! That's a real shame about Phuket though, so sad.

Hi Thank you for this video. I just want to add some few important things As Moroccan guy living in Europe, i will say that you can wear all kind of clothes like you do in Europe even if Morocco is Islamic country. It's a very tolerant country and people are so nice. Just avoid nudity and everything is fine.... :) Pay attention to security because, sometimes, there are some bad people with knifes attacking people (most of the time during the night)
@KatieShowBlog

I still stand by my recommendation to cover up based on the amount of harassment I saw towards women who weren’t covered up. Sure you can wear whatever you want but to avoid hassle and stay safe especially as a woman traveling alone, it’s better to cover up
@chopinop
@chopinop 5 жыл бұрын
@@KatieShowBlog You are right for women travelling alone. It's a pity but what you called harassment towards women in Morocco is considered as charming by some stupid guys. Anyway, hope you enjoyed the trip and that you will come back again and again Moroccan guy in Paris
@KatieShowBlog
@KatieShowBlog 5 жыл бұрын
@@chopinop Yeah exactly, and groping and catcalling doesn't feel charming when you're on the receiving end so my advice is to help women make sure they can have a fun time in Morocco like I did and feel comfortable. It was such an awesome place, I don't want things like that to ruin people's experience. I'd love to go back and see more of the country one day!

What about taxi at the airport? Is it true they don’t pick up passengers traveling alone? They wait to have at least 3 passengers before departing?
@KatieShowBlog
@KatieShowBlog 5 жыл бұрын
Ohh that's the first I've heard of that. I had an airport transfer from the Riad where I was staying so they picked me up from the airport and dropped me off. If you can get that sorted, I think it's the best option otherwise hopefully someone else might be able to offer some advice on taxis.

Hi Katie, I have been travelling around Morocco specifically Marrakech for the past 16 years and am baffled to some of the so called advice you are giving. It seems you are insinuating just because Morocco is predominantly an Islamic country then tourists have to abide a certain way. The conclusion you have made is your own choice when it comes to the dress code and not showing affection if you are not married. That is not what is required or expected from the Kingdom. Whether a tourist or a local, one has the free will to dress how they want specially in Marrakech. Whether it is western, djellaba or a qob. Perhaps your time was spent in a Riad which is somehow the reason you have come to the assumption if you are not married you can’t show affection in public. I would suggest a walk around the many gardens at night, Hivernage area to get the feel of the place. Unfortunately, you have described a rural area in the sticks.
@KatieShowBlog
@KatieShowBlog 5 жыл бұрын
People might have free will to dress how they want, but I stand by my advice for tourists as I saw how I was treated as someone who was covered up respectfully vs how people at the Riad I was staying at were sexually harrassed while not being covered up appropriately. I've heard multiple accounts from others who have been harrassed while wearing what they would at home. I've also talked with locals in Marrakech who explained to me how visitors who don't cover up are viewed. As a solo traveler, I don't play when it comes to safety and my advice follows the same rule.

@@KatieShowBlog Good for you Katie. It is showing sheer respect for yourself and the Islamic culture to cover. It is so disrespectful of tourists who think when they travel their ways should not be adapted to the religious culture.

Lived 3 months in Marrakech...no dress code, walk to the right?...whatever. Yes, you can ask for directions, costs you just a thank you. Don't let her scare you.
@KatieShowBlog
@KatieShowBlog 5 жыл бұрын
I'm just speaking from my own experience (just as you are speaking from yours) but there were people at the Riad I stayed at who didn't cover up & were harassed relentlessly - I walked with them & saw it with my own eyes. I covered up & had no problems. I also saw the harassment people got from getting directions & it cost them more than a thank you. Just because you had one experience, doesn't mean everyone had the same & my video isn't to scare anyone, it's to help prepare people to have a trip as awesome as I did!
