Interesting. I’ll have to give that some thought. Not sure I could make that a video

Good Instruments and Good Microphones, in my experience, are the items that hold or increase in value. I am learning not to scrimp there. Nice callout on the SM7 (it is on my shortlist) - I almost get more use out of my premium dynamics (lke the Sennheiser 441), than the pro condensers that I have, which kind of surprises me. (Of course the source makes a big difference). So, I have all 10 of these things and I can no longer fault my rig. Now I just need time!!!!!! One last thing I have been learning over the years is that the journey from novice to pro-sumer (where I am) to truly pro goes from multi-purpose devices to dedicated/discrete. It never ends.

The companies who sell one-inch thick foam and market it as "sound proofing" should be in prison.

Brilliant advice for beginners! This will be great for my students thank you so much 😊 I'd also recommend an MXL 990 or MXL V250 for dirt cheap mics that punch far above their weight class. Mine have been going strong for years and allowed me to sell off a few expensive mics that weren't as easy to work with. Do noooot forget a pop filter for vocals lol

Cables! I don't know how many cables have fallen apart on me, stopped working or just leave my space haha. When you add the cost up it does get expensive if you go through these issues.

Super solid recommends here Jeremy. I always enjoy your insights. Doing some studio reconfiguring myself tonight and just letting videos play while I work. This one came up and just had to lay in an AMEN.

Great Advice! I have toolled around in BandLab a little (free), coming from the SONAR world. Nice cost of entry there! (I am using S1 Pro though pretty much as my main software).

As someone who just 2 years ago began making music in my home studio, I spent around $3,000 to get the things I needed to get started ( not including plug-ins ).

Hi nice video, regarding cables - If you know how to weld (if not you can learn), this is the cheapest, and better options (when I do it for my self I use shrinking plastic on every weld, I'm not sure even the most expansive cables do thatmaintenance,

I used star quad and made my own XLRs. I’m always a fan of making. But this time around not sure if I want to spend the time and make them again or just buy

Also snakes can't be used enough. I discovered that after leading about 250 cables through my studio desk. I now replaced the first 32 with 6 snakes, making a solid 3-inch-cable hydra obsolete in my cable channel.

You forgot: BACKUPS. And then do a backup of your backup. Studies have found that data loss for an IT admin is more stressful than his GF breaking up with him. Also regarding microphones: the Mojave MA-D seems to be an awesome all purpose microphone ... even though it still plays "hard to get". Sweetwater has it, but it's impossible to buy outside the US 😩
