For me, it's "Vital", the synth by matt tytel. As a synth guy, since it came out it's been my new workhorse and nothing else really even comes close for me - which is mind boggling considering it's literally free. The easy comparison is xfer's Serum, but vital includes "modulation remap" for every row in the mod matrix, which lets you apply a linear transformation to the modulation signal before it goes to the destination. You can use this to make on-off switches, make macro knobs which change which parameter they affect based on what part of their range they're in, set up super specific keytracking curves, the list goes on and on and on and on of the uses I'm finding for it. Working without that feature is so painful now. It could easily sell for 100s of dollars and would be well worth it. And that's just one of the like 10 features that make it incredible. If you don't have it, get it. It is the future.

Neat. Very interesting list. I mix dialogue, so my staples are slightly different. Pro-Q3 , Pro-DS, Harrison AVA De-esser, MJUC(for distortion and colour when I need it), Valhalla Room, Stratus , Pro-C2 , Valhalla Delay(just got a big update!) and Acon Digital Immersive 2(one of my two surround reverbs). Those are just my most used that I can't do without. I just picked up Soothe 2 and will use it on my next project. Should be a blast and save me a little time as well. I have the Lindell 80 strip and love that kind of sound(I trained on a Neve 8128), but have not dared to use it on dialogue so far.

The V collection rocks. I feel that between analog lab/the V collection and and NI Komplete, any producer is getting outstanding value and basically unlimited possibilities. If I could go back and identify my two most important sound purchases these would be it by a long shot. Worth every penny and the more gear you buy from these companies the cheaper the bundles are, especially if you take advantage of sales and discounts. I prefer the plug-in companies that take care of their customers like that, because there’s too many that will throw us under the bus just to save an extra buck

I can only comment on what I've used from the list: RVox is one of the few waves plugins I still use from time to time. especially good for low latency compression while tracking that's fast and easy to setup. doesn't sound the best, but incredible workflow that just works. Sound Toys is such a must have - one of the few plugin bundles that more or less hasn't changed in the last who knows how long and is still top notch for time based FX and distortion. Fabfilter - one of the few that i asked, "why didn't i get these plugins sooner?!" but yeah it's a MUST have. tuners i use the bx tuner. the waves tuner is decent too. Neural DSP makes some of the best amp tones out there. The other is brainworx. Valhalla verbs are top notch, always in my template to shoot out to see what's best for the song. I also took a while to get on the valhalla train too. I use it only sometimes though, but for 50 bucks it's cheap af for the quality of reverb you get! Lindell 80 series is incredible, it's like the native version of the UAD 1084. really REALLY good quality. I also recommend their 50 series strip (API clone). in general plugin alliance console clones are top tier. also it goes on sale a LOT and if you get the mega bundle for not much money a year you can get a few free plugins and try out the rest for no extra charge. so not exactly 249. RAXX waves - same as the RVox, but i actually sometimes leave this on the mix. the only waves plugin i still use on a mix i don't know why but sometimes it does a little something i can't get from just using an LA2A or similar compressor. Soothe 2 - another must have. when mixing clean guitars or acoustics sometimes frequencies poke out in an annoying way, this tames it with a few clicks instead of having to hunt for them and add dynamic EQ to those areas. works especially well on the mids. Gullfoss - another incredible AI put it on and it sounds better plugin. gotta have it on the mixbus. My personal top 10 (in no specific order) list (that isn't mentioned above): 01. SSL bus compressor (yes the actual SSL version of the plugin) - this goes on every mix and i've used like 4 different brands previously including waves, UAD, and plugin alliance's townhouse comp. the SSL won every time. i'd say UAD came in a close 2nd, the townhouse 3rd, and the waves a more distant last. i felt the feature set was a bit better on the SSL version and it had a bit of punch that i remember having actually used an SSL bus compressor on a 4000 G series console. 02. UAD/indell API 2500 compressor - drum bus god. also pretty good on mix bus for light compression. 03. ADPTR Metric AB - best comparison tool you'll ever find. load up to 16 files into it and compare against your mix. incredible to stay on point with your mixes. 04. VocAlign - makes for fast vocal doubles for people who aren't insanely talented and tight (aka most people). 05. Valley People Dynamite - my go to drum parallel compressor - this thing is insane. I have like 10+ different compressors i compare in my template and usually end up on this one. great for rock/metal I find. 06. RX10 advanced - this is god tier noise reduction and i can't tell you how many times i get files that were an incredible take except for some weird noise at some point or the room reverb was too much because of how loud they got (not in a good way). this fixes everything. even guitar noise (a very common problem). no artifacts and super clean processing. 07. UAD Lexicon 480L - my go to lead vocal Reverb. 08. UAD EMT 140 - go to plate reverb 09. UAD capital records - go to chamber reverb (love it on acoustic guitar) 10. UAD LA2A - it's an LA2A gotta have this.

The gulfoss i been trying demo today. Its on my list to get, but going to wait till actual black Friday to see if they shave a bit more off. Also the lindel 80 I used for about a year its amazing. Almost all the PA plugins can be had for $29 if your patient and on their mailing list. I also highly recommend their ssl 9000 J by BX. I own almost every great E channel strip which I just dont use anymore after using the 9000. Its just got more spank and better highs and lows. Again paid only $29 from PA if your on their mailing list.

I'd need my main instruments: Telecaster, P Bass, Guild Dreadnought, Stephen Hill Classical, Gretsch Broadkaster drum kit, Sequential Prophet synth/keyboard/controller. Other than the instruments, the single most important item I'd choose would be a good tube bass amp. One that could do double duty as guitar and bass amp, and also do bass DI. So, an Ampeg PF-50T, or maybe an Ampeg V-4b. With Torpedo Captor X, because my family with small children live in an apartment. Would also need a fast computer, a good audio interface (Lynx Aurora (n) 16 with pre-amp module), Ableton Live 12 Suite (& Fabfilter). And would need one good mic: I'd go with my JZ Vintage 67. Because it works well on both my voice and my wifes and on guitar/bass cab, acoustic guitar and mono drum mic.

Gotta look into Gulfoss, I keep hearing so many good things about it. Soundtoys bundle is absolutely worth it especially at that price, I don't think I've done a mix without Echoboy in years, and everything in the bundle is really useful. I'd also add the Slate ML-2 mic, I put that on just about everything as an extra option since there's so much I can do with it in the mix.

Interesting list and a good mix of some things I expected and some that I didn’t. My list: 1. Line 6 Helix. If you record guitar or bass, this is everything. I’ll never mic a cab again. It’s perfect to use as an interface to record direct and then take your sound from the record out to the live show seamlessly. 2.Steven Slate VSX headphones. These cans are worth the price of entry by themselves but the included software that models different studio and room listening environments is priceless for checking how your mix will translate on different systems and in different environments. 3. Izotope Neutron. Smart channel strip that analyses your track with AI and recommends a starting point for a signal chain. Infinity tweak-able and loaded with excellent signal chain presets for everything.

I gotta say, Waves CLA Mixhub. It's an SSL channel strip but you can group 8 tracks at a time for a console-like UI experience. INCREDIBLY handy for mixing drums. I remember the original ad for it which felt kind of overhyped and gimmicky, however after using it, I flat out love the merged console-like UI experience. Mixhub has the additional benefit of having an extra full filter+EQ section directly on its dynamics sidechain that you can pop open and tune your gate, again INCREDIBLY useful for drum gating. You may have convinced me to pick up Tone King Imperial. I'm a big Neural DSP fan; they did unfortunately over-saturate their own market, however Tone King and Archetype: Cory Wong are very different from the others, so I was thinking about Tone King anyways.

If I were trapped on a desert island with a computer and I was only allowed to use plug-ins made by softube, plug-in alliance, and waves, I’d be good fam 😂. I know that’s pretty stereotypical but those are my heavy hitters for sure. I hate waves as a company but you correctly point out the Renaissance products are basically irreplaceable. With Plugin alliance I am addicted to their analog style channel strips. Mixing with these has pretty much cracked this thing wide open for me and completely changed my workflow in an amazing way. Basically they forced me to make fewer but very purposeful decisions and to use my ears to do so. I also love the color and saturation the strips can add to groups and buses. I can’t afford analog gear so even though I know it’s not the same what I get from these plug-ins feels 100% worth it to me. And softube has slowly been growing into a brand that I live off of. The tube tech classic channel, summit grand, American class A, and a couple others have just made mixing too much fun for me lol. You get a really expensive sound from these plug-ins and they force me to keep my mixes simple, Plus nothing beats that sensation of simply turning a knob until something sounds great. I think these plug-ins are starting to do a really awesome job of replicating that even if it’s not quite the same. Great video man, love your channel

Has anyone ever looked at or messed with the "T-Racks" plug-ins? There a plug in call "British Channel Strip" in there that looks very close to tge SSL. I got the T-Racks bundle through school and have gotten pretty comfortable with them in production/recording/Mix&Master......I'm very open to changing to what others reccomend for sure, I guess I'm just wondering if what I have is "workable" for now until I can afford to "upgrade" so to say lol Another question I have is, for those of us with limited on board drive space, how do you manage a ton of plug-ins? I would assume you'd want them in the main drive and not trying to use them from am external 🤷‍♂️

@bradzillarocks Жыл бұрын
The T-Racks stuff is really good, probably not top of the line but definitely a great start, and you may find yourself coming back to them even when you expand your toolbox. Having a variety can be really helpful to try like different styles of compressor or EQ on a track and hear the differences to see how they behave and which ones you prefer on certain sources. As far as managing your plug-in library you definitely want them on the same drive as your DAW, so if you're running low on space but need to hang on to everything you have installed you may need to upgrade to a larger main hard drive.

@@bradzillarocks I appreciate your response! I'm working off of a MacBook Pro late 2019 that only came with a half T in it and unfortunately the RAM amd the SSD are integrated to the logic board so no upgrading that. So maybe my Device will have to be the first thing I upgrade lol We were taught Logic Pro, Ableton, and ProTools and I guess they didn't think about how much just the main DAWs and the plug-ins they gave us, would take up a significant amount of storage space.
