I think WWE shouldn't exactly discourage going off script. Sure, it shouldn't be done constantly, but a little more consistency wouldn't hurt. In fact, I think it might make fans enjoy the shows more if an unexpected line was randomly thrown out! I know I sure would!

Vince was (and probably will return to be) a control freak, he wants to decide who is over and who should not, he prides himself on predicting audience reactions so going off-script means going against what he wants the audience to feel, in unpredictable ways. There is a long history of wrestlers under his paybook that had suffered serious repercussions for just doing something unexpected (just to say one, Paul London that oversold a clothesline from Gene Snitzky at a Royal Rumble twenty years ago, the audience loved that spot but the elimination wasn't scripted that way and he got punished because "he stole the spotlight for himself") That's the kind of man Vince is, and this is why only very few people can afford to do this without being buried to the ground, Cena fucking destroyed Roman Reigns with that "It's a promo" thing, WWE was heavily investing on him being the new face of the company, since it was John Cena nothing really happened, any other wrestler of the company would had been fired on the spot.

Plenty who could be considered the safest. Brock Lesnar would be on the list had it not been for Hardcore Holly's neck injury though I think that was more on Hardcore Holly sandbagging since a powerbomb spot requires the person taking the move to cooperate with the person delivering it.

I don't see the problem with the Husky Harris line. For those of us fans who have followed WWE over the past 30 years all of the attentive fans remember the many different persona's each wrestler who have lasted in the company have gone thru. The old persona's don't cease to exist when a new one is taken.
