I think he didn't get fired for smiling, it happened an entire year before getting fired. He was fired because people never saw him as more than an enhancement talent and many people backstage hated him

I had the pleasure of working with Roddy Piper & Jerry Lawler at The 1994 WWF King Of The Ring P.P.V. I was the Piper Impersonator. After my brief stint in WWE, I went on to manage "The Highlanders" in the indy's before they signed with WWF & became The Scottish Bushwackers which I hated cause they were so much better as heels. I had no idea they would both be featured in this video.

I don’t believe it because not many people have good stories about him. Even if it was coping, it’s supremely inappropriate. This isn’t a cop coming across a high stress environment, this is a dude firing someone over the phone with years of experience and is a former wrestler himself. He’s not a newbie getting nervous.

Once Johnny Ace took over... all went downhill. I believe all the stuff from the lawsuit with Johnny, hes a human piece of garbage and him being with WWE so long is what put it down the drain. He was a million times worse than Vince himself. Once Vince got much older and was giving Johnny alot more power, that's when it really got out of control, like with SashaBanks/Naomi.... Vince was gonna let them make the changes they wanted, and Johnny Ace essentially said no until Vince gave in, and Vince clearly was focused on things besides doing his job well at that point....

Roddy Pipers comment wasn't eerie..he was just being honest and it's true, the mortality rate for wrestlers is insanely high, especially for the old school dudes, he knew he wouldn't live to see his pension. They don't get healthcare, weren't covered for ongoing injuries, were "contractors" not employees, it's insane, let alone all the concussions. Vincea reaction in that interview was just from the guy asking why it isn't his responsibility and he flipped out

They talked about Charlie Haas and Jackie Gayda getting fired after getting married and Dawn Marie getting fired while she was pregnant, but they missed CM Punk getting fired on his wedding day. I don't remember why Punk was fired though.

In the U.S., the boss can fire you for any reason other than gender, political leanings (or lack therof), race, sexuality (or lack therof), accidental injury, disability. A pregnancy does not fall under "wrongful termination", as it's a personal choice; a choice no one else should be forced to deal with.

That Vince Russo part is weird because in a way I see where he's coming from. If you can't speak English in a predominantly English speaking crowd, it limits how much they can work a crowd. Problem is that assumes the foreign wrestlers have zero English speaking skills, which I doubt Russo knew. Even then, quality wrestling was one aspect WCW could challenge WWF on, so just keep them around and maintain the slice of audience that is left

You can tell it's racist because he picked Kalisto, which sure, had many issues, but his English was always good. Yeah he made mistakes, but that was never caused by a lack of language skills. He was born in Chicago ffs. When you've got people like Shinsuke, Rey and Asuka, it really shows how full of shit that guy is anyway. He's the promoter, it's not their fault he was shit at promoting.
