Back in the day, I had a used car for sale for $1,000 and the guy wanted to beat me down to $500. About 5 minutes later a second person walked up and said he was there about the car. The first guy said, "I was here first!!!" I said, "Your right. If you give me $1,000 for the car it's yours!" He gave me $1,000, I signed the title over to him. And as far as the second guy that showed up, (My friend) he went inside and we had lunch! :-)

Hi, really like this video, thank you. You’ve really got some of the sales techniques/tip downs. I’ve been car sales for about 10 years and I know a lot of sales people that could do with some of this advice. The big one was definitely number 10, it’s amazing how hard it is for people to ask for the business. I would just like to add, when it comes to negotiation don’t be afraid to say no and justify the reasons why no. You touched on this in the video, sometimes people might not know the reason they paying a premium. Just make sure you don’t leave it open if there is nothing you can do. I used to see so many New starters say things like let me see, I’ll try, let me look into that. All the customer here’s is yes. If you can’t move on price the answer is no. A polite and justified no but still no. I have just started in woodworking and i’m really liking your videos, they’re giving me a lot of confidence going forward. Thank you.

I don’t build furniture but I do refinish it, I have found that when doing custom orders it complicates things if I give my clients too many choices, usually they just say “ I like your style so I’m giving you full design control” that’s a scary thing sometimes, I usually just ask for a photo of the room the piece will be in. Another thing that I always do is write a short thank you postcard and in that I always ask them for feedback in the form of a business review, I feel like small business owners are afraid to do that or they just don’t know how to ask but reviews can make or break a small business.

Guys I love your channel have been watching lots of your videos. I want to learn how to wood work, not interested in the business building part as of yet. I'm 64 and retired plus a disabled vet with PTSD. I like to keep my hands busy and have always wanted to wood work. I love the fact that you and others are working together to become businesses, it's totally awesome. I am interested in knowing if you would build me a cutting table for my sewing projects. It would be like a kitchen table but would be used for laying out a couple of yards of material and cutting it up for whatever project I'm working on. I have back problems so it needs to be high enough about 35" so I don't have to bend over to cut out projects. I only problem would be getting it to me. I live in Southeast Missouri in Portageville.

New subscriber and Love the channel! #11 For any big project: Highly recommend getting a non-refundable deposit (electronically as discussed in your video) that at least covers your materials! My friend does this before burning fuel, potentially wasting time, loading up a load of lumber, spending hours building and finishing a piece of furniture for someone to simply back out on delivery day...unfortunately this has happened more than once leaving finished furniture pieces taking up space until they sell.

Great video. Marketplace has set my business on fire in my area for the last year. It went from a hobby selling a few things to BAM, to a full on small business. What you said in tip 3 was spot on. I once made a post and labeled it "free" and posted about 10 things that I've made. I was mainly thinking it would get people to my facebook business page to see what me and my Wife make and hopefully there was something for everyone lol. I got a lot of business out of it but more headache than anything. I probably received 200 messages about how much this cost or that cost. It got so crazy I just started copy and pasting the same reply to everyone. I think I got about 10 jobs out of it and 30-40 new followers which has gotten me some more business but I'd rather just post one item per post and link my fb page from now on or website when it's built. Marketplace is a gold mine but its touchy lol.

Your #2 tip reminded me of a funny joke. You can put all of the info in there, size, shape, weight, material etc. and invariably someone will ask, "what's the length?" .. true story, I was selling a used bike on FBM and in the title it said "Men's 26" Bike ... " and the first question I got was "is it a man's bike or women's bike and also what is the size?" .. no kidding, I actually received that.

I was surprised to hear that you deliver big items like tables in a public, neutral spot instead of in their homes. I can totally relate to tip #10. I have often been guilty of using the wrong language when someone contacts me. "You don't want to buy this, do you?" I'm almost talking them out of the sale or trying to justify the price of the item or talk up the quality of it to them. That's my biggest struggle. Is believing my item is the quality that they are willing to pay and worth their money.

Thankyou for posting this. I am at the point of rather pulling teeth than trying to sell on Facebook marketplace. In a sad point I am so glad it's just not me with the ridiculous questions asked when you state everything clearly and it happens everywhere not just the UK, I laughed so much at reenactment as that is exactly me at workshop 😂. I have just been reaching out to everyone I know trying to find a better place to sell as spend more time answering X!"* Questions than working. Really appreciate the tips and will be putting all to practice immediately. Some are commonsense but like me when you are grafting away they simply don't come to mind. Thanks again

I have people meet at my garage shop. They like seeing the shop and it allows me to cross-sell other products :)

Great work guys! I just want to know, is there some short of law restriction for selling your art on marketplace for example? As carpenters our products is more like art and not production stuff, we don't have a printed price on them. Can you actually sell on marketplace without having a law trouble or you are in front of questions from tax office like "where did you get all that money this year?"

My biggest complaint about market place is the amount of people who low ball you. I had several people try and offer me 2/3rds of my price, then get mad because I said no.

I am a craftsman and I make anything from wood and metal too and I watch lots of youtube videos in my spare time to get more inspiration, so keep up the good work guys 👍👍 I make things and sell them online, usually on Etsy and one or two other sales platforms, but what really annoys me is the way some people make things and sometimes they are beautiful items but they've got no clue how to make a profit, I'll be trying to sell something which I have made for £80.00 - £100.00 but there will be one or two others who are trying to sell similar products for £8.00 - £10.00, either they've got no clue about trying to make a profit or they are just making things to prove to themselves that they can do it but clearly they don't want to make a profit 🤬🤬🤬 I'm trying to run a business making homemade products just like you two are doing and say you make a fancy table which I like doing and I want to sell it for £300.00 or more but somebody else and usually theres more than just one person but they are trying to sell the same thing for £ 30.00 🤬🤬🤬 its a business to me and I want to make money but these jerks who know nothing about making money are ruining it for those who are trying to do it professionally 😭😭😭 Hey if anyone reading this is one of the people I just mentioned then Please, Please, Please either get a life or go and take up a different passtime like knitting or birdwatching instead !! OK rant over.... Keep up the great videos guys 👍 Glen 😇😇😇

I am a bit late to reply, but just a quick tip: if you see people selling items way cheaper than they should, it is a trick: they are not actually selling the item, they are just attacking the market to lower prices or to drive competition out. I bet that if you contact them to buy the product, they will say that there is a waiting list, they cant deliver right now, etc... It is a known technique to lower the price of comparative products on market place. It works very well, I have used it in the past to lower the price of some Nintendo switch used games, I would post 20$ less than everyone and a day or two later, they would reduce their price by 10-15$.

Hahaa. Thanks for this. Just found your channel and you guys crack me up. I just wanted to say that the not reading description thing is likely partially Facebook’s fault. I was guilty of this when I first started browsing Marketplace because I only browse on mobile and while the description should be the first thing visible on a post, it’s not. Facebook places it wayyyyyy down like 3-4 full thumb scrolls. Why do they literally give you the option to send a message before even giving you the description? 🙄 ...So maybe give people a break, J 🤣

Ive been accepting money orders recently and I just wait till I recive them before I start on the project. I don't have to worry about it bouncing like a check and if someone is willing to pay an extra $1 to send a money order you can tell that they are for sure serious
