About the going crazy with the pump comment. The fact that I can’t find non concentrated dawn soap is why I started making my own soap! Brilliance!

Bonjour from Montréal! First, I want to tell you how much I enjoy your videos. I discovered your channel only three days ago, and I watched many videos already. Lots of common sense, honesty, down to earth info. As a professional soapmaker, I make "shampoo bars" formulated for hair, but I made Castile soap for my family with only olive oil and goat's milk, so I tried it on my hair this morning and oooohhh... it is wonderful! Great tip!

My mom used to rub soap on poison ivy bumps and on stings. She’d also use mud or make a baking soda paste. Don’t anyone clean their kids mouth out with soap; trauma.

How long do you have to cure the soap
@unclejonssoap
@unclejonssoap 4 жыл бұрын
I start using it at 4-6 days old. But most people will let it cure 4-8 weeks before use. It's perfectly safe the day after pouring unless the recipe was wrong.

most quilters, costumers will use bees wax rather than any soap to stiffen and lubricate thread and needles. creates less bulk to the thread ..

@@wynngwynn Glycerine has been used to floss embroidery thread since the 15th century : ) Never heard of anyone who's allergic to glycerin although I'm sure someone is.... In a pinch I've also used lanolin and gulf wax, they works serviceably as well!

Hello Jon, may I ask 2 clarifying questions please? I am totally new to soap making and quite "confused". According to a list I managed to find in the internet, Olive Oil contains neither Lauric nor Myristic acid and all the other contained acids are listed as conditioning, hardness providing and "bubbles"... so how does Castile soap clean, when it's registered as 1 out of 100 on the cleaning scale? So I can see how it would be a great conditioning bar, but my chemistry knowledge just failed me on the cleaning aspect. Would you mind awfully explaining please. I have scoured the internet and there seems to be no answer.... Another thing I seem to be incapable of understanding, is that most Castile soaps seem to contain "superfat". Would this extra oil not leave a film on dishes, etc when used for cleaning purposes? Or is the soap you make 0 percent fat? Apologies for all the questions.... I do so hope you have time to answer them. Thank you so much from far away Thailand, Fala

Cold process soap always cleans :) Some better then the others. Well i didnt tryed yet but for dishes you should use a low superfat i think. Makes more sense no? :)

Totally unrelated to this video. But what do you use to make your labels? What's a good starter for labels? Label machine? Pre-made labels? Do I have to add an ingredients label for startup soap business?
@unclejonssoap
@unclejonssoap 5 жыл бұрын
I use onlinelabels.com and a regular inkjet printer. Since most printers don't print all the way to the edge of the sheet, you will need to figure out which sheets work for your products. The weather proof inkjet labels work really well for us. And if you plan to sell any of your products, you will need an ingredients list for everything except the soap. True soap doesn't HAVE to be labeled. But, you can't make medical or cosmetic claims about it at all. If you decide to add an Ingredient list, you'll need to look up the proper way to write the list. Hope that helps.

Where is difference between shampoo bar and reg soap
@unclejonssoap
@unclejonssoap 2 жыл бұрын
Bath soaps are a higher ph than shampoo bars. It's easier to make shampoo from synthetic soap bases really. And.. it's probably better for your hair.

+Nihad Khamis it's hard to say without knowing the exact recipe you used. But it sounds like you might have too much lye in there. If you would like, you can email the recipe to me and I will take a look at it to see what the issue might be. unclejonssoap@gmail.com

i wonder why is this soap so white? Are you usining refind Olive oil for this one? Cause i used virgin oil and it was quite yellow (Olive) :)
@unclejonssoap

Yep... Refined. EVOO is way too expensive for most people in the US to use in retail soaps.

@@unclejonssoap Thats interesting may i ask how much you pay for 1 litre of EVOO for a example? Im a soapmaker (hobby atm) from germany so i cant tell :) Im comparing refinded oil to EVOs atm. Im really curious about the differences!

I haven't had success in finding a bar that won't dry my skin out, not even castile, I have been having to wash my skin with baby wash(not J&J) or pharmacy products for the past several years, otherwise my skin feels rubbery and often even itchy. Perhaps a super high SF on an already mild soap would help but I haven't tried that yet. I hate the snottiness of castile soap but I may try that with like... 20-30% SF. Anyone have experience with extremely dry, sensitive skin?
@unclejonssoap
@unclejonssoap 4 жыл бұрын
I'm not sure the soap is actually drying your skin at that point. Sometimes our brains play tricks on us when we're used to something like body washes, etc.. As for the snottiness in Castile.. that won't get any better with a high SF.. no soap will. What do you use in your skin after your done washing? Since soap is really only meant to clean, maybe a light oil or a good lotion right after would be a help.
@Turtletoots3
@Turtletoots3 4 жыл бұрын
@@unclejonssoap I didn't mean the high SF for the snottiness, I meant to make it feel better on my skin. I hate body lotions honestly and prefer avoiding needing them, they feel sticky and make me feel dirty, I mostly rub whatever remains of my face lotion on my arms but that's about it. Any kind of soap so far has made my skin feel really tight and it gets super squeaky like rubber, if that isn't the soap stripping my natural oils, I don't know what is. :(

Can adding sugar to my bars cause mold to grow on my bars
@unclejonssoap
@unclejonssoap 5 жыл бұрын
It's possible. But I would look at the amount of super fat and what oils you're soaping with first. Honestly, sugar isn't necessary in soap. You can get great lather without it 😁
