damn, already forgot that, but yeah. If they kept squad contols, at least you could combo with your mates, but since they ruined that too, you were basically left with one combo, because you'd need the third slot for something universally useful, like taking down shields.

@@axolotlsgonewild I would prefer a game taking place mostly during the first two games, playing something like a "space adventurer" solving his own personal problems, but with even more freedom, maybe add some trading options, an option to buy ships?, maybe land vehicle or space combat?, or even be a bad guy (or play as different species, right!). But definitely with new awesome characters to recruit and new places to visit. Ahh, the dreams... Seriously the original trilogy's universe was so vast, a hundred stories could be told. And so much solid foundation! And then they go and try the hardest thing possible - imagine a new galaxy where you are the ultimate hero all over again. And then they fuck it up spectacularly. The only good thing about that game that I can remember is the new species and a handful of characters. The main story was super weak, the combat was dumbed down and I can't remember more, but that's just how bland it was.

Dead Space 3 wasn't THAT bad on its own - I had some HILARIOUS moments playing with my friends - but yeah when you compare it to DS 1 and 2 it's just not the same. A big reason I didn't play it for a while after it came out was because I watched my room mate spend hours and hours staring at the weapon customization menu. He'd make a change, go shoot at some enemies for a few mins, then run back to the bench and spend another few hours collecting resources and making changes. At the very least, you don't HAVE to spend a lot of time at the bench.

Dead space 3 for me was great Same for resident evil 6 If your a fan, sure it's probably least liked, but nowhere close to games that break the wheel just to reinvent it worse. Franchise exhaustion is a thing, I suppose it would of never been a problem back then that had different decent games with their own cool styles. Silent hill/resident evil/cold fear/the thing and many more during the glory days to keep us from getting bored of the perfect recipe.

Having just completed Andromeda this year, I ended up really liking it. My gripes are mainly around the tedious back and forth fetch missions. It was also difficult to get into the swing of things, as the game does a really bad job of explaining all you can do. Once you get into it though, I found the gameplay fun, the story interesting, and your team as endearing as in the original trilogy (for their own reasons). It really could have grown into something great if given the chance with DLC or sequels.

DNF failed on so many fronts. First the development cycle, due to it change hands so frequently, essentially aged the fanbase away. Second, in the same time games became so much more sophisticated graphics and story-wise. Sure the expectation was high, but they were realistic expectations considering it took 15 years to make the game. Lastly, like Falcon said it was a 90's shooter in 2000's clothing. Unfortunately, we were in the 2010's, so it seemed so dated.

The thing with Sacred 3 is that Ascaron the previous developer, has been liquidated since 2009. Some of its Ips have been bought by Kalypso media (not Sacred though) and they took some of their developers (15) to create gaming Minds Studio (still in Gütersloh germany). The rights for Sacred are with DeepSilver and has been developed by Keen Games (from Frankfurt am Main). Deep Silver is now part of the Embracer Group. Long story short. The Ip went a totally different way than the Developers. Unlike with Timesplitters, where now both the Developer and the rights are part of Embracer. But Sacred 1 was awesome. Sacred 2 not so much, because it fried my windows 7 when i installed it from the disk, so i had to use a crack to get rid of Securom. Also the studio is about 28min away by car from my home :D

Sacred 3... sounds similar to what happened with Dungeon Siege III... Dungeon Siege was a dungeon crawl hack and slash, made to showcase a game engine based on the premise "are we able to make a game that takes hours to complete which doesn't use any loading screens?" It was a success. In addition to the hack and slash, they introduced a leveling system, limited character customization, and party mechanics (up to 8 heroes and/or pack mules). The plot was the most basic bare bones plot only existing to explain why the character we're playing as is going through all the dungeons; although they did have a few NPCs to talk with who provided some background lore. Multiplayer: Each person can import their own character to play with friends, up to 8 players (I think, never used it). Dungeon Siege II built upon the basics of the previous game, they added character customization (instead of a human, a player could play as a half-giant, dryad, elf, or human each with their own benefits), the introduction of over a dozen pets (which can be customized and leveled), RPG elements (lots of quests and each party member has their own individual quest), along with the previous leveling system, they added a skill tree to unlock powers around character concept (powers of a sword and shield fighter is different than a greatsword wielding fighter etc.), finally, they added a crafting system. Multiplayer: Each person can import their own character to play with friends, up to 6 players (I think, never used it). Dungeon Siege II Broken World "the last chapter", fixed a lot of bugs, while adding dwarves as a playable race (although dwarves don't make sense for the narrative, but added due to fan service), they added several more pets, 2 more party members to showcase the newly introduced hybrid classes (Blood Assassin is combat magic + range, Warden is nature magic + melee) with their own spells and powers, and they expanded the crafting system to include the ability to make equipment sets. It's clear that this was the Dungeon Siege II port to console, as there are things you can get in the console version which can be used, via code, to get the duplicates in the PC version, and vice versa. Then we get to Dungeon Siege III. This is a Diablo clone. Instead of a party, you get to choose to play 1 of 4 pregenerated characters (archer, mage, wizard, Angel-Elemental Hybrid) -- only one is a plot important, the other three can be removed from the game for all they affect it -- and you can only have 1 active companion (1 of the 3 pregenerated characters you didn't select). The previous games' leveling system was entirely scrapped for a Diablo-esque version, in which you get to choose a skill/power from a very limited list of skills/powers, and if you choose poorly, that greatly affects the game (my first play through, I had to ditch half-way through as my characters I have used couldn't actually defeat a boss). As for gear, it's character locked preventing you from giving a very useful ring/amulet to character X because it is meant to be used by character Y. Then... the lack of quests really made the game feel devoid of content/empty. Multiplayer: You and a single friend are able to play... as different characters. TL;DR Everything which made the previous games great, were scrapped because Diablo was the game the console players would be most familiar with so they made the game to be played exactly like Diablo... pissing off nearly all the long time fans. Thus, the huge number of negative reviews are "this isn't Dungeon Siege... it freaking sucks!"

Devil May Cry 2 was actually my introduction to the series. And everything you said is absolutely correct. It is literally the only one I've never gone back to replay. Dmc I've replayed several times in fact! The trick to playing that one is skip every cutscene and bit of dialog. The gameplay is loads of fun, and the level design is a cut above some other games from that franchise.

DMC2 "hate" is spot-on! I completely agree everything you said. Dull and boring all around: dull graphics, dull levels, dull combat, dull enemies, dull everything. And I even agree that "reboot-DMC" is a good game. Not on par with "real" Devil May Cry games but a good action game nonetheless. I've heard people sometimes say that "DMC2 is a bad DMC but a good action game"... no, it's not. It's dull and boring.

Red Faction: Armageddon removed one of the greatest aspects of Guerilla, a wide open world, and replaced it with an oppressive, claustrophobic set of tunnels and caverns, and a linear play style. This made the destruction less dramatic, muting the coolness of the new cool weapons, and trapped the player in all kinds of unpleasant situations.

I actually loved crackdown 2 when it launched. Though I only bought because my best friend was playing it a lot. Never played crackdown 1 until like 2020. I have some fantastic memories from playing with my best friend on crackdown 2. Went back in 2020 to revisit it and Yeah, it's not that good lol. Only played it for like 2 hours and by the 30 minute point I was forcing myself to play it lol. To this day, Mass Effect Andromeda I haven't played. Despite me loving the mass effect games. It just has such a negative reputation that to this day pushes me away from even giving it a chance. Dead Space 3 I got in 2014 and I was really excited for it. Loved D1 and D2. But God was it mediocre. I did get that same best friend from earlier to play co op campaign with me. He hates HATES horror games. I love them. It was pure humor. Whenever he'd get scared by a jump scare or necromorphs, he'd run away and just say "I hate you, I hate you, I hate you!" He was saying that to me lol. He did push himself to finish the game with me and his final words on the game once the credits started to roll was simply, "I am NEVER playing that again." Imagine how he'd feel if he played D1 and D2 MUCH more scarier games. To this day I occasionally mention it and he just starts laughing about it. And repeating "I am never doing that again" as he starts laughing again.

Alone in the Dark 2 ~ In its defense, having lived in NYC since 1979 (no, not a typo), with the exception of the 1990s; NYC is a great setting for a horror game. Dark, depressing, corrupt, violent, and at times genuinely horrifying. The setting in AITD2 was not the issue.

Jack in the dark was a fun mini game. Alone in the dark a new nightmare, never really got into that one so not very memorable. Then I did get hyped for alone in the dark 5 on the Xbox, got it on release day and then the disappointment kicked in, the only thing looking it to the original was Edward Carnby, totally agree with the review janky camera, and to be honest not really a horror game!?! Should have looked at is routes, let's hope alone in the dark 6 next year rectifiers matters, the trailer is promising, here's to recreating late nights on my pc in 1992, searching the little blue book for the copy protection code so I could be scared playing.

I never comment on KZfaq videos for a multitude of reasons but I wanted to thank you for pointing out the abomination that was Sacred 3. My wife and myself spent an inordinate amount of time on Sacred 1 and 2 before we had children whom I am now, in turn, introducing to the first 2 games. The treatment of the series for the 3rd entry, which we preordered despite the warning signs (last time I made that error in judgment), was insipid and repulsive. I loathe Sacred 3 at least it did force us to search out alternatives like Path of exile, Grim dawn and Titan quest where we had hundreds of hours of indulgence and enjoyment.

I played ME Andromeda a few years after it came out and I found that I actually like the characters introduced, particularly feel in love with Peebee, and the freedom it gave you in terms of building your Ryder with its power tree. But I was really annoyed with how often quests would bug out and something I needed to progress a side quest would glitch out and I was stuck with a quest I could never finish since a vital piece to progress was quite literally non existent. Story was boring at best and it felt like despite the studio having a decent concept for the game, they dropped the ball with the potential they had. Overall was kinda let down story wise

I just played the Dead Space trilogy for the first time in October this year. LOVED 1 & 2, but 3 felt off right from the jump. I can't really explain it, but just from a game sense standpoint, it didn't feel like the previous 2. There wasn't really a feeling of seclusion and terror right off to put you on edge right at the start, and even the controls felt awkward, despite being the same from DS2. Add in the mandatory co-op to participate in some parts of the story, and it's just off-putting.
