Girl we did the epoxy countertops we got a kit from Stone Coat Countertops and OMG it was so fun and turned out so beautiful. I won't lie there was a lot of prep involved, but with the kit it shows you step by step how to do it plus they have tons of videos here on youtube. We did our own embellishments we bought the kit that was suppose to look like black marble with white veins. We added blue to the list and it was stunning. We mixed 4 tubs of the blue in different tints some lighter some darker and the result was stunning. When everyone came over for Christmas Dinner they asked who did it. How much did it cost? They couldn't believe we did it ourselves. As a matter of a fact I couldn't either it was so pretty. You should try it. Also I have a couch that has like a wood trim on the top back of it how would I upholster something like that? I is a pretty couch but a weird yellow color and black would just make it so much prettier. Hope you do a video on that soon. LOL!

I absolutely believe in neutral walls and floors and to let your furniture and artwork be the jewels of your home. So even if you are a DIYer you would be smart to go neutral if you know your not in your forever home. When I redid my bathroom I went classic black and white 1 st off because the person who owed it before me put in all white 4x4 gloss white tile half way up the wall. It isn’t damaged but it had the ugliest light blue tiles in a diamond pattern so I painted those black. Those tiles were a ruff tile and held paint well and I sealed it. The floor was the same ugly blue. I went with a black epoxy paint and sealed it and the vanity blue 🤮 so I went with a beautiful white/gray neutral and of course I sanded the corners and used black wax to tie them in and black knobs except on the doors I didn’t replace because I decided to go with some open shelves for towels and pretty baskets that are black. I spray painted the lighting fixtures black matte. Changed the switch covers. My sister who visits me often couldn’t believe it was the same bathroom ♥️

I love all your ideas. Several years ago, I took the plunge and upholstered my sofa and love seat. I thought it would just be a temporary thing until I could buy new furniture. I used drop cloths from Lowes and it turned out much better than I thought. I'm still using the same furniture. That being said, I probably should have started with something small, but go big or go home right! About halfway through I had completely lost my mind! I would love to see more on upholstering from you. Your DIYs make everything look so easy.

I love cut crystal too! The sparkle can't be beaten and it looks soooo luxurious. Following your lead, I'm taking a look at the small items I use every day see if there are things I can change to lift the look of my home. First job is pretty containers for the. bathroom. I'm going to use some of my unused crystal items for things like a soap dish, talcum powder box, toothbrush holder and mouthwash bottle. (Obviously I don't have children in the home!)

Thank you! I think you're the first KZfaq host to tell us it is all right to use laminate countertops and floors. The house we bought needed so much work that our dollars were stretched thin. We do have a Formica countertop that looks like marble. We do have a laminate wood floor that looks very much like French parquet. I love it and wish we had put it throughout the house.

Natalee, I reupholstered a love seat and chair in a local class. Didn’t save much money after the cost of the classes were factored in, but the job was so thorough. As with sewing clothes, it’s less about the money saved and more about getting the fabric you want, colors etc. Totally worth it. Having said that, a tutorial on making slip covers would be terrific!

For those new to crystal, there is CUT crystal vs PRESSED / MOLDED crystal /glass. Some of the pieces you showed were pressed glass, which is still beautiful, and not as expensive as the cut crystal. "Cut" edges feel a bit sharper, more defined, and delicate than the smooth, rounded edges on the pressed glass. I would wonder if that set of drinking glasses is actually cut crystal at that price. They are still beautiful, and more practical than delicate cut crystal.
@pepe8680

Those glasses were not real crystal, not for that price. I have a large cabinet filled with real crystal. This is the test to determine if it's real. Take a knife, spoon, whatever, tap the item gently if you hear a ringing sound, it is 😂😂real BUT, if it sounds like a thud, it's fake !!! Try it. Real crystal is very expensive.

I love laminate countertops! My husband says I’m “hard on the equipment.” I even have Home Depot coming out today to bring samples and measure my kitchen. I have been making over light fixtures for years. A little gold/silver/copper leaf, some spray paint, or strung crystals work wonders on the ugly builder grade lights. Thanks for the reassurance!

I love your ideas for saving money while making your house look better. One thing I would like to point out is that trends seem to change so quickly, so I am not willing to spend a lot on things that will just look dated in a few years. Also, appliances. You're lucky if a major appliance lasts 10 years. And the prices of them have gone through the roof! One thing I'd love to learn is how to make a wood and tile pedestal for front loader washers and matching dryers. Each time you buy a new machine, the old pedestal won't fit or won't match! This would save my back when I do laundry (which is like almost every day!).

Well I will say I did paint mine over 5 years ago and yes the poly is starting to turn a little yellow from where the heat has hit it but it is a slight yellowing. I painted it to look like granite. It has held up. So I guess I did it correctly! It has 4 coats of poly with sanding in between it is super smooth and I still get compliments on it. I also cut my backsplash out of 1 2x4 down to paint stick size and stained them in different shades of brown and gray stain. It is beautiful. I love the primitive look. I live in an old farmhouse. My kitchen remodel cost me 125$ because it was mostly paint. My knobs are glass knobs from hobby Lobby and I got them half off. My kitchen is one room no one believes I did myself or that is only cost me 125$ to redo. Countertops can be painted. ❤

Great video, NataLee! I love cut glass crystal too. It just makes a home sparkle! I have found many pieces at thrift stores for really cheap. I switch my bed linens and window treatments quarterly in all the bedrooms in my house. Don’t know if you have an Ollie’s Discount store near you but I have not only found Croscill bedding there but I love their drapery section! Sometimes I have to go to the 3 stores closest to me to get enough of what I want. But the prices being so much lower, it is totally worth it. For my bay window in the master bedroom, I bought 7 gorgeous embroidered panels for $3.99 each! Mom made sure that her daughters took Home Economics in high school to learn to sew. I have actually upholstered a foam seat that is attached on top of my Lane cedar chest at the foot of our bed. Terrific tips as always.

A lot of people think it is old fashioned but mixed with modern items lead cut crystal looks absolutely beautiful. Also various types of vintage colors of glassware and drinking glasses look so much better than everyday glass. It's so inexpensive right now and plentiful it's cheaper to break crystal accidentally than those plain glasses you buy retail. And it makes every meal like a special occasion. So fun.

Baby and bridal showers were always special because we used Crystal snack plate sets and nice punch bowl. I have two recliners that are in great shape except for the welting on the seat cushion. I did get slip sleeves to protect the arms, so I have fabric. Now just to deconstruct and do it.

Hello NataLee! I hope you & your family are doing well!🙏❤️ I have been out of commission for the last couple of months due to the loss of my sister.😪 She passed away unexpectedly on June 9th!😪 Then on July 19th my father-in-law passed away. 😪 It has been tough, but I know that they are both in heaven! So, I have been catching up on my favorite crafter's videos! And it really does help catching up because I do live to craft & diy, so, as always, NataLee, I thank you for all that you do!❤ I like cut crystal, too! Definitely elegant looking!😊 I would love to see you do an upholstery video, please! I need to learn how to sew first!😂 I have been wanting to learn how to sew for a long time! My husband took a home economics class in high school. He attempted to teach me how to sew a couple of months ago and our sewing machine just stopped working!🙄😔 Our kitchen cabinets are old with the grooves in the doors. Top cabinets are white & the bottom cabinets are black! What would you do to elevate them? Would you change out to new door fronts?
