Companies are afraid to bring back shareware because heaven forbid, a potential customer finds out the game sucks before they buy it.

In my Opinion Demos definitely need to be brought back the closest thing we have to demos now is Betas which still require you to buy the game.

The piracy thing is totally true. I remember shareware and a big motivator for me to buy xbox mag in the 00s was the disk full of demos. Now if I want to try something before slapping my money down I need to look at "alternative solutions". Steams 2 hour trial thing helps, but for some big and complacted games (you know, those ones where it takes 2 hours just to get through the tutorial), that's just not enough to really help you decide.

I completely agree with you on the demo situation. A demo, gives you half hour of the game, and ends on a complete cliffhanger would probably do more for encouraging people to buy said video game than anything. I mean, binge Watchers will tell you Game of Thrones and Walking Dead been doing it for years. You can't just stop even if you do have to go to sleep for work because you have to be there in 3 hours, and still you have to know what happened to that guy. Is he dead, is he alive? That feeling of " I just have to know" would pay for itself in short order.

I remember when the old playstation magazines that used to have the demo discs, my childhood was almost completely filled with playing the few games that I actually owned and just trying to complete those demos, it was one of the fun things to do and allowed me to talk to others about games that I didn't completely own even if it was on the most basic of levels. Proper demos like that really do need to be brought back.

Why don't we have game demos anymore on Xbox 360 I would download any demo that sounded cool and would maybe never buy the full game cause I knew I didn't like it now you have to read like 10 million reviews to see if you might like it shareware sounded so cool

I remember reading an article with Crytec many-a-year ago where they said that demos are unreasonable since it's free content that cost money to create. Thought it was stupid then, think it's stupid today. I mean, me and my firends lived for demos. Playing the shit out of them until you could afford to buy the whole game. Was also a great way to learn how to appreciate games. Great video as usual Falcon.

The part about the study on piracy helping game sales is my favorite thing that I've seen in a long time. More specifically, the Family Guy clips in reaction to the study. I personally have pirated many things to try them out or because I didn't have enough money at the time, and then bought them later just to support the makers.

I have found the lack of demos infuriating. There are many games I refused to buy because I wanted to know what it was like first, but there was no demo. With games being as large as they are now, waiting for one to download is a tedious process for _just_ a demo. Shareware wouldn't work in today's world, because back in the 90s it wasn't distributed so quickly and so widely. Let's also not forget that most people who pirate something never had any intention on buying the product to begin with. Pirates for the most part don't hurt businesses, as long as they don't give away whatever is they they stole.

Ha what's funny is my brother aswell found a PS4 in a trash this month, it wasn't really trash, it was a day that you put out that stuff you wouldn't throw in the normal trash on a Air Force base like beds but it was very surprising to see my brother come home with a working PS4.

Steam should just setup a way to try a game for an hour or two without paying, so you don't have to refund the game after trying it and not liking it (and hurting the games company). It wouldn't cost game companies anything (since they don't have to spend time making just a demo).

Still a good channel. There is a "kind of shareware" still out there on Steam and a few other sites but of course they are beta testing versions for the most part or mmo/mud type games with either poor or no graphics to speak of. You are right, a return to a true share ware model would be nice though.

Oh yea. I remember seeing something of the navy using a 360 controler. They LITERALLY shot a newly developed lazer cannon. Well people say gaming melts your brain, but this puts it to a whole new level.

I was babysitting a little boy about 8 years old last summer and he wanted to look up Minecraft videos on my laptop so I gave it to him and went to the kitchen to fix lunch for us. After about 10 minutes, he told me my laptop was broken. I go see what he's talking about...he was trying to use the screen as a touch screen and had no idea how the mouse pad or keyboard worked. It was shocking and very funny to me. I just calmly sat down and showed him how us old folks (I'm 21) used computers back in the day lol.

Honestly #9 made me pissed off, depressed, and angry at the same time
