I currently live in a house that was built in 1866 in Illinois. During renovations we found all sorts of things in the attic space. Several pairs of Shoes, an old wooden tool box, old tin cups and old tin lunch pail. We also removed layers of wall material to find rough hewn hardwood planks covered in sheets newspaper written in German and English. The rock walled basement is just too creepy to explore lol.

Many years ago I was employed as a domestic help/au-pair for a family. At the back of their house when excavating for an indoor swimming pool they found the remnants of what they at first thought was an 18th century ice house. It actually turned out to be part of a partially collapsed series of tunnels that ran between their home, (previously a rectory) the village pub and a mansion type of house that would have belonged to a wealthy land owner. It was decides that the entrances were originally priest holes, but were then excavated to be used for smugglers (the infamous Hawkhurst Gang, 1735-1749 led by Thomas Kingsmill) as they were well known for that part of Kent, England. Just goes to prove that you never know what you’ll find when you either knock down a wall or dig a hole in the garden. We ourselves in 1993 found a partially complete 1952 Morris Minor car buried in our garden when we excavated for a garden fish pond!! Our cottage had been built on land that was once a flint quarry but had later been used for landfill, hence why among many other weird things we found a car!! Some neighbours of ours had found a WW2 unexplored bomb when digging to put in a septic tank!!😳🤷‍♀️

Basement: Leave a gallow/noose hanging from the sealing with a wobbly chair under. Hide inside a wall (or some other place they might find it much later) a really disturbing suicide note, confessing to summoning Satan (or other demonic forces) in relation to the biggest catastrophic incident that is closest to the house (or would make sense in other ways), sign the note with a random name, and date it ahead of time (hopefully, they won't find this stuff until after this date) Also, paint or carve a huge sigil into the floor, then cover it up with a carpet. If you carve it, paint it nicely with pigs blood, available at your local butcher, or sneak into a pigs farm at night and harvest it yourself, but be careful, pigs are real screamers! You can also in addition to all this, leave in a "hidden spot of the house" a dagger (with NOT a stainless steel blade), a few black candles, a tray of salt, and a cat's skull (or human bones, widely available at the graveyard, but prepare for some digging, preferably on a night with really bad weather to make sure you won't get disturbed by nosy commonfolks. And also make sure that the person you hare digging up has been left for 3-5 years, but also, a half rotten skull can make for some strange amusement among the new owners, if they were to find it, say, underneath the floorboards of the attic). Be creative!

I grew up in a very old house that needed extensive renovations. In the walls we found old clothes used to fill holes and old spoons, but the most interesting discovery was a love letter found in my bedroom. It was wedged between the boards of a shelf built into the closet and painted over many years ago. My mom deciphered it and she was able to track down the two people and their descendants. They had never married and we discovered it was a forbidden love. We framed the love letter, along with a typed copy so others could read it, and left it with the house.

When me and my wife renovated our house a few years ago we found what we thought was an old fireplace covered up in the basement. So we tore away the rest of the walls and found 4 more fireplaces in the basement. I thought this was odd so I did more research on the house and it turned out our 'old house' was actually an old funeral home back in the early 1900's and they use to cremate bodies in the basement. My wife wasn't having any of it so I covered all but 1 'fireplace' and we sold it mid renovation 😂

Well, when I was younger there was a tunnel under ground, my mom tokd me that the small neighbourhood i live in is called the ancient city for a reason, basically all the basements here have a tunnel that goes under ground, rumours has in that these tunnels connect to each other and take you to another city and there's gold on the way, the government issued an order to close all these tunnels when I was younger, the neighbourhood is really old and a lot of people were captured and put in jail for selling ancient stuff they found, there was also a bakery before I was vorn that is now closed down because they found roman coins. I have to say that I'm from Tunisia (North Africa) or as it was known Carthage, so its expected to find these stuff here

The most exciting thing I ever found was an old Tonka dump truck. It was uncovered when the foundation of my house was being readied for pouring the slab. Surprisingly, it was in pretty good condition and the kids loved playing with it. As does the kids of kids, today.

My ex husband's family had a linen closet on the second floor. The entrance to the attic was also in said linen closet. Oddly there was a picture of the Crucifixion against the wall. I asked my ex husband why that was there and all he said was the last time he was in the attic he heard and felt strange things coming at him. He assumed his parents did it to keep the bad stuff in the attic.

When I was younger, I had a vintage typewriter. I remember scrunching up a bit of paper with a creepy note on it and shoving it into the mechanism so, when I sold it, the purchasers would realise the R key was stuck and find the note under the key when trying to fix it
