This is why I am glad that my monitor adds its own crosshair/dot for games like that. Makes things so much better and more accurate than most games built in crosshair and I'll never have to buy a scope or dot to play a game properly. BTW the warzone crosshair is ever so slightly left side biased.

So, a lot of the star citizen ships are actually flyable in the alpha, and they're pretty damn fleshed out. I'm not going to defend their arguably predatory fundraising approaches, but the flight sim gampley is pretty damn enjoyable for the decent selection of flyable ships.

@chasekidd
@chasekidd 2 жыл бұрын
@@Baleur While I am definitely a big defender of Star Citizen, and as I mentioned above, I love playing it, it is 100% predatory when it comes to marketing. The cycle ships in and out of the store, often raising the prices of the ships when they come back, creating a sense of urgency when a ship you might want is being sold. The ships are defined basically as gifts given to you for pledging money to the game, not as you buying the ships, specifically so they can ignore any refunds/returns or disputes. Their are multiple tiers of exclusive clubs you have to buy into either through subscriptions or just spending a ton of money. The high pricing of the ships in general is 100% whale bait. They aren't priced that high because they cost that much to make, it's because there are enough people willing to buy them that they can price them that high. Also hull-limited ships, pretending like there is a limited number of ships available when it's a digital good to create an artificial demand to justify sky rocketing the price. It's a good game, I've spent over 1k$ on it, I don't regret buying into it, but I can recognize that their business tactics are in no way ethical, and prey of the fact that people with too much money to spend, or just enough money to afford it and have a fomo will buy the ships.
@depwise1154
@depwise1154 2 жыл бұрын
@@chasekidd Do you really think it is unethical ? (genuine question) If it were to feed big fat publishers with only promises (as the video pretends) I would agree, but the game has no publisher so to speak, that's the big difference that is very rarely touched upon. RSI doesn't have a traditional business model, and it seems misplaced to judge it by traditional standards. The game kept on a crowdfunded model with rewards at the level of the investment (until some recent external investment at least), so no big investor on a capitalistic model is fattened from the money put by backers. The benefit goes to the company (who functions and grows thanks to it) and to... the backers themselves who get (progressively) delivered their dream game, therefore I do not see how it is unethical. In a sense, this business model could be seen as more ethical than traditionnal ones, as no greedy middle men extracts value from the work of developers, and all of the money invested actually goes into the game. It is even done with a level of transparency that has no equal (to my knowledge), so again, only more ethical to me. It's "direct marketing" meets the gaming industry.

But the thing is it was weird bcz Roze skin was an MW Season 5 exclusive and there was literally no way to buy the skin after the season ended... Also when the season was going on people were actually not yet using the Roze skin and there was no talk about Roze skin, it was only after the season 6 ended and we got closer to CW integration, it got major traction, so Activision was not able to make money off it after it got traction bcz it was a limited-time item, so they just left it and the people who were playing the game during Season 5 (and bought BP) only had access to it...

as an indie game dev myself, what really grinds my gears about predatory microtransactions and P2W schemes is that I know there are lots of small game development groups or individuals that have actually found tasteful and fair ways to implement microtransactions and rely on this method as their primary source of income. BUT then you get these huge companies coming in doing it all for more profit and ruining the concept, leaving a bad taste in everyone's mouth and making it even more difficult for the smaller studios to earn their living.

@@thedarkemissary the point I was trying to make and maybe didn't word well, was that bigger companies don't necessarily need to add microtransactions to their games, while for many (but not all) smaller groups it's the better option to publish a game for free and make their income through microtransactions. and just to clarify more, I should say that I don't like games with P2W or say gamble-like microtransactions either, regardless of the size of the team that made it.

My feedback on this video; Don't know other games but really familiar with Star Citizen so my feedback will be based on that. First: Pay to win: No, first of all every player can earn the ships and everything is balanced. For example if you bought a big, expensive ship in the game you can't do anything unless you have a crew of a lot of people. And a same number of people in starter ships can take you down, its a fact. Also there is literally nothing to pay to win. What are you winning? Its a space sim game with player interactions and massive active communities. Us as the playerbase who wants to support the game, are buying stuff with our disposable income. The main reason why 40k package is hidden after 1k spending is to prevent people who spends money instinctively and irresponsibly to go get that package when they just found out about the game.

The worst microtransaction was the one that started it all; horse armor in Elder Scrolls. The first time you could add something to your game after purchase, with IRL money. It was $5 for literal armor for your horse. After that the floodgates opened. Now we have half the content behind a paywall in $60 games. DLC that runs in to the thousands of dollars (see the train sims on Steam). We have pay2advance, pay2win, pay2finish, free2play, free2start plus more. We have Star Citizen. Pre-purchase incentives and tiered editions. Cosmetics, oh so many cosmetics and their microtransactions. Battlepasses. Premium currencies. I don't want to list anymore, it saddens me too much.

Hi, I Have to disagree on what you said about Star Citizen. 1. Star Citizen is not a pay to win 2. All most every ship is in the game and the ones that are not in it are being worked on. 3. all you need is the starter ship that costs $45 and then buy all other ships in game. 4. The game is taking so long because CIG asked it's backers is they would want planet side action on ground and they said yes. so CIG had to start over on the project for it to have ground combat and landing on planets with out a loading screen The game does have it's issues as it is in alpha but it is a good game that will make a lot of other games feel weak. Thank you and I still liked the video.

The Star Citizen portion of this video is inaccurate. Yes, that pack is really expensive but the vast majority of the ships offered in packs are flyable. And if you check the ship page it will tell you if it's not, and if so, what stage it's in. If you purchase a ship that's not currently ready, you will be given an alternate ship as a free loaner until the ship you purchased is ready. Also, to purchase the pack mentioned, you have to have spent $15,000 already or by buying the praetorian pack for the same amount. To access the praetorian pack, you must have already spent $1,000.

So if you want a full set of extra cosmetic armor and another gimmic you need to pay like 20$, 'cause that gives you 3x "regal aya" which is this events special currency for instant buying either full weapons/warframes or cosmetics. If the answer is yes, buy it. If the answer is no, don't buy this game now and choose another game from my backlog. New - 4. Never buy NFTs.

All but one of those SC ships you showed are flyable now. They have the words FLIGHT READY under their description. And you can buy ALL those flyable ships in game, with in game credits. Also, you released this right in between 2 player events that basically let you fly some ships for FREE, and between some in game events that throw in game currency at you for you to buy the ships you like yourself. Your info would have been correct... in 2017.

And that’s why retro gaming will always remain on the throne (for me). The gaming industry has always been about money for publishers/developers, but their greed has been way out of hand in the recent years. One of the worst parts about it is that consumers are enabling this behavior. Nobody likes being told how to spend their money, but in these cases…..stop supporting BS! Games are about having fun! I don’t know….that’s just me.

these practices exsist because alot of players don't want to actually play the game to 'get gud'. They want the op stuff with a flick of their credit card because they think they can steamroll the game and other players. So the result is alot of people spend real money on these transactions. Developers would stop putting it in their games if people just stop wasting their money and just...play the game.

Although the prices for Star Citizen ships are insane, it is UNFAIR to say the price is just for a picture. Every ship in that footage is in the game and functional. I understand how ridiculous it is, but what is being said here is just false. How functional the current (alpha) game is; how the business model of selling multi-hundred-dollar digital spaceships to a bunch of whales funds their project; or how it blew way out of proportion and has been in development for a decade; THAT is all fair criticize.

A very vocally known skin issue that breaks balance lasts about half a day before being disabled or outright fixed in competitive games. Warzone is NOT a competitive game, it's a cash cow. Hence, they fixed the issues but delayed the rollout of the fix for weeks KNOWING it would drive up sales for Battle Passes and level unlocks by people thinking the exploit would go away immediately. Activision made money by not fixing it quickly. This is more ammo for a boycott, peeps.

They didn’t say enough about how bad 2k is. You can actually buy skill boosts and sponsored gatorade boosts to your players stamina and these boosts in total cost more than you earn for playing a game. And depending on the game mode can cost up to 6 times what you earn for playing a game. It in my opinion is the worst aspect to this game and the reason i stopped playing.

Hey... the entire Star Citizen section is completely wrong. I'm just a normal player of the game and I know that your words are 100% untrue. Every single ship that you can put money on, you can fly right now. The $40,000 thing is not a regular purchase. That's not even availble to anyone who's not a millionaire irl and wants to support the game. It's not really like you said. Everything else, A+ , thanks.

almost every single ship shown in the star citizen segment is flyable or has a flyable variant and is able to be bought with in game credits right now. Most the ships you can't yet fly are capital class and have no real use yet and make up like 5% of the ships released at this point. are there ships you can buy but can't fly? yes.
