You gotta feel sorry for Taker. Vince kept on throwing untalented monsters at him and expected Taker to get them over. No matter how good of a worker you are, you can't make the likes of Mabel and Giant Gonzales look good. Taker was probably so relieved when he could work with good wrestlers like Bret and Shawn.

The Undertaker wasn't intending on getting the fake Undertaker over. It was a five month build to a one time only match. Undertaker was the only one supposed to get over after an 8 month absence. He defeated both Papa Shango and Kama Mustafa, but has non-finish/no contest against the Godfather when Kane showed up.

I'd be more comfortable at taking a hill to die on that wwe creative was the main culprit in the Shane vs Undetaker match and the whole storyline. Actually a few of these can be blamed solely on creative.

Don't forget Mordecai. I suppose Undertaker never put him over because the gimmick never got that far, but reportedly that was the plan. The Dead Man in All Black versus the crazy zealot priest in all white. But then the wrestler behind the gimmick, Kevin Thorn, got into a bar fight, hurt his hand, and was hit with a lawsuit, and that pretty much ruined his chances. Then he was a vampire wrestler for a long time in the indies and on ECW. He's also a real estate agent, because you gotta have a backup plan.

Heidenreich was a victim of bad characterization. One of the big missed chances I can think of from that era. Along with like, Paul London and Pirate Paul Burchill.

Undertaker vs Giant Gonzalez at Wrestlemania 9 is still a trillion times better than Giant Gonzalez vs Nailz in New Japan Wrestling. When you watch that or even WCW Super Brawl 1 with him vs Sid Vicious you can see that Undertaker actually got the best possible match you could get out of him, which is impressive, because no one else even came anywhere near as close.

MY guess about Kozlov would be that after his win against the undertaker somebody in the management realiced how boring the character was and talked Vince out of Kozlov having a long feud with the Undertaker. That match against HBK was their way of writing Kozlov out of that storyline and getting some momentum for HBK going into his match against Taker at the same time as they were about to burry Kozlov anyways.

I don't agree with everything the speaker is saying in regards to his casket matches against Mabel, Mark Henry & Kama. I actually enjoyed those fueds. There was lots of storytelling. However I do agree with some of his points when speaking of guys like Nathan Jones, Giant Gonzalez, Khali etc

Giant Gonzalez wasn't quite as unpopular as people think. It was mainly dirt sheet readers who would have not liked him back then. The average WWF viewer wasn't a neckbeard worried about "workrate".

I actually think his match against Festus/ Luke Gallows was actually pretty good. Of course, Festus wasn’t going to win, it was still entertaining.
