AJ Styles is perfect example that you can easily become big name in wrestling without WWE's machine . There was one point that he was originally joined WWF/E regularly in 2000s but never happened . Instead he joined TNA & become one of the Mount Rushmore of that promotion . His NJPW run is also iconic

There was one aspect of the stardust character I actually appreciated seeing from Cody... We already knew he could be devious with his undashing character, but there was this darker side that came out of Cody when he was stardust... Cody is an average mid carder or below that wrestler, if he didn't had the tag "Rhodes" in his name, he'd be nowhere. You could also have had AJ Styles. He was part of WCW when WWE bought them. His contract was one of the contracts that came with the deal. His wife had just started University and WWE wanted him to go down their development brand. It would have meant AJ moving away from his wife who he had not long married at the time. AJ asked for his release and WWE agreed to it. AJ spent year becoming a global superstar in TNA, NJPW, ROH and the Indies and then years later WWE resigned him.
