I don't know how much fault that is on WWE. Most of them were timing issues like AJ and Edge. Unfortunately, you can only make a dream match if you have everyone under 1 roof and that was often a problem.

The Cena match, although it wasn't a good match, it helped redeem the Undertaker's match the year before and made him into a dominant character again, at least on paper. Also Taker got very ready for that match just to be told that it was just gonna be a straightforward squash match. I believe that since that match, Taker became less enthusiastic until his final bout with AJ.

A 3 star match when you're expecting a 5 star match is equally as disappointing as a 0 star match when you're expecting a 2 star match.

But I think that the disappointment of not getting what you expected changes one’s perception of what you actually got in the match. For example, I definitely expected more out of AJ Styles vs Edge. But I recently rewatched the whole thing…knowing how it ended and how it went. I genuinely enjoyed it upon a second viewing. It’s easily a 3.75/5 match for me. It’s just not what it could have been. And I think a lot of that is due to them trying to save stuff to extend the feud. I think that has hurt a lot of Styles matches in general: dragging a feud out for 3/4/5 matches and weird DQ finishes. But I’d say definitely rewatch the Edge/Styles match. Good counters, hard hitting, good ring psychology. It just would’ve been more if they treated it like a one off and let them wrestle like they’d never wrestle again.

All the matches were victims of bad timing. To be fair though, we got Taker vs Sting albeit long before The Undertaker was The Undertaker and Batista vs Brock Lesnar happened in OVW. Bret Hart vs Kurt Angle would've been amazing. The rest could've gone either way honestly. Based on Hogan vs Rock, Hogan vs Austin could've been good. Michaels vs Rock could've been touch and go given how Michaels was in the 90's so if Rock made one wrong move, it would've tanked the whole match. It could've happened in the 2000's if Rock got freed up for a match and it would've likely been good.

Wrestle Kingdom 10 got us hyped but, Vince didn't allowed them to tell the story

i think what was so disappointing about goldberg vs taker wasn’t how past their prime they were. everyone knew that coming in. it was the fact that their chemistry was so off and goldberg could barely stand up. it wasn’t that they were past their prime, it was that it clearly still could’ve been a much better match

Some of these very knowledgeable wrestling youtubers who are generally smart and knowledgeable about the inner workings of wrestling say some utter nonsense at times, because they too sre smarks. For example, Adam Blampied said that taker vs sycho sid wm 13 was absolutely terrible and the crowd hated it, but the pop that came from undertaker pinning sid is one of the greatest ive ever heard.

I think people really undersell how bad it was, especially since if they just waited a year they could’ve been printing money for all of 2002

One of Greatest matches not because of quality but star power like Hogan vs Rock WM 18. The electricity in that crowd🔥🔥🔥. Austin vs Bret WM 17, Shawn vs Taker WM 25, Savage vs Steamboat WM 3 were iconic matches. Ohh miss Elizabeth 💕, very sad she deserved better
