JBL didn't retire, "Way too soon." There's no doubt he still had good work left in him, but he felt he was at the point where his *best* work was behind him and wanted to end it on a high note. Whatever regrets he has about missed dream matches or possible storylines, I'm sure they're outweighed by the satisfaction of retiring on his own terms instead of a doctor's, and not having any residual shame or anger about disappointing, awkward matches like Taker's with Goldberg, Lesnar and Reigns. He's a deserving member of the Hall of Fame and he knows he belongs there.

Abyss had nearly a 25 year career, and he was not kind to his body. He worked a hard physical style, and he took a ton of hits and abuse, getting frequently busted open or lacerated. That's a case where it's amazing that he was able to stay on as long as he did. I credit that in part to his transition from the Abyss character to Joseph Parks in the mid-2010s, as it kept him out of deathmatches a lot more.
@knightmare_edits

Shawn Michaels said in an interview on "Inside the Ropes" he retired because he was just at peace with the idea of it. He mentioned that after his match at Wrestlemania 25, HBK felt like he could just retire and be okay with that. It was like he had already been to the top, and of course his family would love to have him home for good. So soon after, his retirement match was setup.

Lana was just there with Rusev for the longest similar to Paul Burchill and his sister but then she actually started trying. Wasn't that good but she did try and WAS getting better. Maryse was never good in the ring strictly looks so Idk why you brought her up she's barely around herself. Where's Reggie now? Completely irrelevant. Omos has no credibility because he's lost every big match he's had. And you're talking about "so what?" Right now she'd be Eva Marie who was absolutely terrible and you put her name. THAT'S what

It's probably better to retire young in the long run than to risk ending up badly hurt or worn out due to age and injuries. And then you have the ones that simply cannot stay retired no matter how old they get. Sometimes I wonder if Flair is really going to stay retired this time. Haha

Maven should have been on this list too, that guy was promising but never really had an impact in WWE, he was released in 2005 and retired two years after at 31 I gotta say that both JBL, Abyss and especially Shawn Michaels didn't retired "too soon", they had a long and noticeable career and ended it when they felt their body was not fit anymore for that kind of life, and were happy with what they accomplished. There's a difference between "Retired too soon" and "Retired before the damage on their body became irreversible"

You're never too young. It's easy to just think people's lives are just what you see on TV. You don't see the behind the scenes stuff. Always travelling, away from family, wanting to start a family, being told what you can and can't do with your own life, schedules also include matches not televised, appearances, guest spots etc.... you're basically travelling around in a 24/7 circus with barely enough personal time or space. Some adapt, some love it, but for some, it's a lot of pressure and sacrifice mentally.

Hbk, in my opinion, shouldn't have retired. The matches he could've had in the early 2010s with the likes of Doloh Ziggler, CM Punk. Daniel Bryan, etc would've been amazing. And then they could have featured the DX vs Brothers of Destruction match like 5-8 years prior to their 2018 awful match when all of them were in better shape. I respect his decision. Just disagree with it.

I've been a solid Eve Torres fan since the dark (yet somehow, memorable and poignant) days of the divas division. Her heel reign was remarkable and I myself was saddened when she left, especially at her prime. I respected her reasons for doing so but damn, 10 years on and I still imagine sometimes how she would have fit in well with the roster if she had stayed.

I didn't believe it when I saw the headlines that AJ retired right after her match after Wrestlemania, I am happy that she was able to leave while on top of the division and ultimately her tweets to Stephanie made it so the women after her got the spotlights they deserved. Permanent damage to her spine may make it hard for her to come back but if done right I see a return. Eve Torres as well, carrying the divas division in 2012 she did such a good job. I'd love to see them both return.
