As a veteran teacher, I just laugh. This is how children behave now and this behavior is reinforced by lack of parenting and discipline. Parents refuse to take phones away and would rather be friends. They tell teachers all the time for us to deal with it. Now these kids act a fool in public and get kicked out of malls en masse. Big shock.

This is why there is a massive teacher shortage and you can’t blame people for quitting because they simply do not get paid enough to put up with behavior like this. I tutor math up until 12th grade and my worst students are pretty much all in the newest generation. They’re just grown iPad kids overtaken by overconsumption. They never do their work, draw on the tables, goof off the entire session, and do nothing. The parents even defend their kid’s shit behavior when we complain about it.

As someone who is currently working at Sephora... the tweens invading the store is becoming such a problem that we have stopped refilling the drunk elephant moisturizers. The amount of DE "smoothies" I clean up in a day is horrid. And when I tell these kids to "1. Use the product if you pump it out. 2. Do not make smoothies because its unsanitary. 3. If you make a mess clean it!!" THEY HAVE THE EFFING AUDACITY TO LAUGH AT ME. It makes me feral mad and I truly wish I could ban each child that comes in and does this. AND ITS THE SAME KIDS. EVERY. GOD. DAMN. WEEK. Thank you for talking about this. ; u ; This is making me feel so heard, especially as you are both ex-sephora employees! Thank youuuuuuuuuuuu!

I’ve worked in cosmetics for 30 years.. my granddaughter is 13 and bothering me to take her to Sephora. She wanted the Drunk Elephant etc… I got her a wonderful associate who really clicked with her and off they went. She felt comfortable talking with this associate and they spent 30 minutes laughing and putting things in her shopping bag. My GD had a list and she got what she wanted but all things were curated for her age and activities. We paid and left and she was floating all afternoon. She had an age appropriate skin care regimen, a few cosmetics and a fragrance.. Me asking the associate to help her and let the girl give my GD good advice and education really made a difference. We went back yesterday and she immediately sought out an associate to ask if the product was safe for her and good to use with her other products WHICH SHE HAD LISTED IN HER PHONE! The education and warnings she got made an impact and I’m grateful. Love you two!,❤️

My parents were financially comfortable but my mother would have laughed me out the room if I would have asked for anything pricey that wasn't a need. So these parents are a 100% responsible for letting their kids run amuck. I have a 13 year old girl and its off to the drugstore for very basic and gentle skincare and very little makeup! When I was in high school I had super bad acne to the point where I don't ever recall my face being smooth. I begged my parents for skincare or to go see a doctor but the only thing they did was get me this oopy-goopy oil-free Neutrogena moisturizer that I swear made it 10x worse. So with no money, no way to make it due to not having a car, I did the only thing I could - I dedicated myself to not pick or scratch at it with the hope down the line I wouldnt end up with acne scars. Now when I got to college, finally had a car and got a job I was finally able to afford one of those 3 step skincare regimen Clinique kits, and it completely went away. While I don't want kiddos ruining testers or buying retinol, I hope this doesn't give parents who don't believe in skincare or don't believe their child's acne that's clearly causing them pain another excuse to not have them go see a dermatologist or a doctor because it's a "tiktok trend"

I went to a Sephora in Disney Springs just to look for some stuff for my upcoming holiday choir concert that I needed sparkly eye shadow for and as I was about to check out and a group of like 13 YOUNG girls (maybe 11 or 12) come in with NO parent supervision wearing Lululemon puffer vests and caring FULL size Stanleys. I'm a 15 year old girl, I was LOOKING, didn't touch anything except the things I was going to buy and and the girls RAN to Drunk Elephant section and RUINED the testers. They would run past me in the store and the employees were having NONE of it. I was in a boot due to an ankle injury and they knocked me down. The employees handled it EXTREAMLY* they immediately helped me up and kicked out every last one of the girls which of course threw a fit about getting kicked out for just looking around.

Around 13 is totally fine age to start skincare bc puberty can destroy your skin. But kids that are 10 or younger shouldn't do stuffs like that unless a legitimate doctor has prescribed it bc of some kind of skin condition. When a 9 year old kid doesn't wish for any toys and only wish for skin care and makeup, something is wrong imo. Heck, when I was in my late 20's, I was gifted some anti-age skin care and I felt offended. I have a babyface and have never used any skincare except some acne stuffs I used a few times as well as some acne lotion under my makeup when I used makeup bc I heard it would help against foundation looking dry and cakey. Btw I was a teen in the late 90's/early 2000's and I know makeup and skincare has changed alot since then.

If they weren’t 12 year old fraternal twins they couldn’t have been more than a year apart in age and she told them that they could each pick out one thing and they both made a b-line for the Crème Shop end cap and picked out some Hello Kitty lip balm. After that, I could almost get passed the fact that they had to take the Drunk Elephant testers away and only offered them for buy online, pick up in store.

Personal responsibility - that's what it all comes back to. Parents need to take responsibility for actually raising and discipining their kids, including say "no". Individuals need to take personal responsibility for what they're doing, using, buying and refusing to read and follow directions on. I truly believe that a lack of a sense of personal responsibility is one of the biggest problems in this country nowadays. And the reason they're not suing that Sephora worker for recommending something and instead of are going after the manufacturer has everything to do with money. They're looking for a big payout from i.e. Drunk Elephant and know they'll never get that kind of money from a Sephora worker. We're in the era of "hate the business and take them for all their worth". And for crying out loud, parents need to get their kids off of TikTok. It is NOT good for our youth!

I worked at Sephora when makeup forever came out with the individual 100eyeshadows and we barely had enough product to make testers. Kids would come n stick their fingers in the glitter but nothing crazy. Then a boy siting in his stroller with his mom playing with the shadows took his toy truck ran them over and hit the gondola, and ruined them all. We couldn’t replace them, and we asked the mom like can u move the stroller so he’s not in arms reach he’s ruining product and she literally looked at us and said well I’m not paying for it so he’s fine. Then he took lipsticks and drew all over the gondolas and walls. My daughter used to come visit and she was young n knew don’t touch the stuff, now she’s a teen and she yelled at her friend for doing that in a store saying they aren’t ur maids and it’s not funny stop destroying the product. She told my 14yr old she was mad because her mom wouldn’t buy it for her. My kid said yeah neither will my mom because we don’t need it don’t destroy it and make a mess because ur mom doesn’t give u what u want. Her mom called me embarrassed and said she was glad my daughter said something. Teaching ur kids self control and saying no is ok. And allowing them to ruin stuff u/them should be charged for it. An accident is one thing, dropping a bottle etc. pumping and smooshing a product everywhere on a gondola is destruction of property, clean up after urself. Also our mall stopped allowing unaccompanied teens unless u worked at the mall.

I thought that since Finland doesn't have Sephora the trend wouldn't be here, I was wrong. Ended up on TikTok last night and saw a young Finnish girl who couldn't have been older than 12 using Drunk Elephant products. It was wild XD

I physically recoiled at the term "bron-tour." And I expected to hear the rising strains of a men's choir humming "Battle Hymn of the Republic" as Johnny's soliloquy about taking a dump on the desks of people at their jobs went into the home stretch. Another glorious episode!!

I work at Sephora. The parents and the kids are awful! I had a 9 yr old buy the Charlotte Tilbury Setting Spray last night. She saw it on tik tok and the mom was beaming over her daughter! "She has good taste" omg! The ruin the testers or steal the product or both!

I have to say - as a nurse and skincare user, there's a balance between a derm recommendation and an over the counter product. The derms are prescribing the same products that you can get in the store, just at a higher concentration. And if your concerns cannot be mitigated by using at home products, you need to see a derm, period. i see a derm, get RX retinol and acne lotions but also still use the skincare at ulta/sephora. I just know what i can use and what works well with the RX's. I totally agree with ya'll that kids should not be using any of this. If folks have severe acne (like the person mentioned), they need a derm to get that under control. Also, i agree with kevin - you MUST read the directions on the products. I have a 7 year old and I would never be ok with her using anything but a gentle cetaphil face wash.

I think part of the Sephora kids issue is that they're are no spaces for teens anymore especially teen girls. I remember seeing commercials for kid make up or sparkle hair clips and pixel chix. Anything a teen girl like is made fun of and considered cringe. And since no one really uses cable anymore even if there is something catering to teen girls they won't see it since ads are personalized.

I’ll say it once, and I’ll say it again: BE. A. GOD. DAMN. PARENT. TO. YOUR. KIDS!!!! I mean, if I ever, EVER acted like this in public to ANYONE I wouldn’t be allowed out of my house ever again, let alone somebody I didn’t even KNOW. I don’t think it would have ever entered my head to act this disrespectful to another human being; like, call it upbringing or basic morality, but it was always a non-option to be this snotty, and to STORE WORKERS. It’s just unbelievable. I have no words.

This girl was showing another girl. Probably the same age. What product we're best for her skin. It wasn't even an hour after I saw them at Sephora. I turned around and saw them in Ulta beauty!

It doesn't feel like Sunday without a B&B podcast. It's snowing heavy here... having your show on while making stew enhances the whole vibe to be so much more cozy. Love laughing at the sephora kids while chopping veggies. (Also, now I finally know why refills for my protini face cream are always out of stock!!) Ughhh 10-year-old skin does not need mature skin products ffs. These kids need to go to the body shop/ bath & body works like us millennials did as tweens and leave the products made for adult skin alone. And if the Gen Alpha kids can't behave in public or trash stores, then bring back the age minimum to shop in person at certain stores again. Consequences for being a little sh*t if their parents won't parent. Keep the hour+ episodes coming; the length is great!!

Yeti Johnny! These kids and adults should understand these "things" are not going to make them happy, beautiful, or popular. Ulta and Sephora should implement a policy that unattended teens and tweens aren't allowed to use testers.

The Stanley Quenchers started with a suburban mom influencers. Stanley had released the Quencher line in their traditional colors in 2016. Three moms run on online shopping blog called The Buy Guide. One of the women that runs The Buy Guide found the cup and it became a recommended product on the blog. There was a rumor in 2019 the Quencher was going to be discontinued and the blog posted that people needed to buy the cup now before it was discontinued. The bloggers got in touch with Stanley asking them to not discontinue the item. At this time Stanley had not been working with influencers. Their eyes were opened to the power of working with affiliates. Around the same time the leadership at Stanley changed. An executive formerly at Crocs started working at Stanley. Through the relationship with the influencers and new leadership, it became clear that offering the product in more colors (pastels, bright colors) could increase market share. Stanley has had 2 collars with Starbucks, the first in the fall of 2023 and the more recent collab with the pink and red cups. I think the primary appeal is it’s a large cup that will fit in a car cup holder.

Hi! I have two tweens here! Im an aunt. Alot of it is tiktok combined with passive parenting. Letting them in there being disrespectful and not regulating the tiktok. The difference is that social media…the ads. U only had them on billboard, tv or when you went out of the house. Whereas its gotten into the phones and Computers that are in your pocket nonstop. I notice two things….we are mad when tweens fall into these trends looking at social media but grown people are standing in line pvernight for Standly cups from the same source. We are being thrown constant advertising 24/7. Celebrities kids or kid influencer and celebrities that attract those young crowds.

I love this pod. I love you guys. I dont have kids. I am a social worker. I think because you dont consume a lot of social media because you are a content creator, you dont see the INSANE amount of influencers touting all of this trendy stuff. I DONT think that most of those influencers are targeting younger audiences on purpose, but Gen Alpha was literally born with a cell phone in their hand. The amount of stuff they are exposed to is mind boggling compared to what I (millenial) was exposed to on say MTV or in magazines or on MySpace or FB (back in the day). Kids are literally getting bullied for not having Stanley's in school. The pressure these kids have to match trends is insanity. I do agree that no parent should be letting their under 13 year old run around the mall unsupervised. And I am wondering if this is all going to lead to Sephora, Ulta, etc. requiring adults to accompany any minors of a certain age into stores. Love all of this and love that you are talking about this issue. ❤

I went to Boots in UK to get a new Drunk Elephant lip balm and the Whipped whatever the product is called, and the girl working that brand told me that there was a trend of stealing the products, so there was a national shortage 😅 My sister told me when she used to work in a cruise ship spa, customers would come in with like a plastic sandwich bag on their hand and just scoop out handfuls of the tester products to take home.. Don’t they have ANY shame!? I also visited a Sephora in Sweden last summer and there were two girls in front of me in the queue, about 12-13 years old. One goes to the other “I have set a goal for myself to never spend less than 1000kr (around $100) every time I go to Sephora.” And I’m thinking “in THIS economy?
