My little sister is 12, she had the same saphora phase, she has taken a break from it but she still uses the skincare products. I talked to her about it to make sure there was no anti aging products or any retinol or anything else that could cause her to get hurt. She doesn’t it’s all like preventative stuff for acne and what not but still. I can’t tell you how much it pains me to see her and her friends doing all this because of the beauty standards. My sister told me she just thinks it’s fun and that’s fine, but the thought that these little girls feel the need for anti wrinkle cream and stuff really just shows how screwed our society is.

I was shopping at Sephora and once told an 11 year old that it's called "drunk elephant" because it's for inelegant wine moms. A little harsh but I was frustrated by the company calling five "vitamers" of vitamin C (basically the same molecule accessorized with a different atom on the end) five different vitamins on a "multivitamin" cream. I completely agree. I work for a candy store and it's kind of disturbing home many parents think they can drop their kids off and leave (there are 4 restaurants sort of in the area so if they want to have lunch with their friends kid free they always try to just drop them off at our store.) the kids usually cause a disturbance and I am not paid enough to be a child babysitter. I am way more frustrated with the parents. You either watch your own children or hire an actual babysitter.

I think a big part of this problem is the lack of third spaces for younger children and lack of child friendly spaces as many people have said in the video. I mean, even at home; think about all those 'beige' mum influencers. Imagine having your entire life be and world be designed not for you but for adults, all your interactions being some sort of sponsorship or economic action. It's no wonder they have little to no respect for other people, they're actively being taught that they're more important than others if they *just* do this thing like mummy said, like the influencer said, like the tv said. Everything they do, everywhere they go, they are performing, needing to prove that they are more expensive, more, and this is disgusting that they'd even think this, more attractive.

I totally agree with the lack of teen and child spaces! The biggest issue is that there are literally no preteen activities that aren’t wildly expensive or inaccessible. Trampoline parks, libraries , children based stores, toy stores, roller rinks, pools, waterparks, indoor playgrounds, arcades, arts and craft fairs, skate parks, sports fields, splash pads, kid gyms, etc. In my area, all ‘kid-based’ activities are hidden. I vividly remember searching for activities when I was younger. I was in middle school, scavenging Google maps and there was nothing near me! If there was, it was ridiculously expensive! My area is filled with kids and is considered high income. I finally learned that I am not going to find anything fun that isn’t going to cost the price of 3 plates at a five star steakhouse.

If I know I have to work, can't monitor every little thing they do, plus the fact that it's hard trying to take care of myself in and of itself, why the hell would I ADD to the hardship, struggling and suffering I'm already plagued with by adding a kid to the mix?!?! And not just one kid but multiple! The o.p. is correct! The parents are garbage and their kids are inconvenient and burdensome to society as a whole! Why the f*** people keep having them is disgusting and incomprehensible!

Parents robbing their own children of their childhood, _and_ endangering them by sexualizing them at such a young age where the kids really can't grasp the weight of what they are being subjected to. That is absolutely horrifying. It's going to cause a lot of challenges for those babies, teaching them that their value is in their appearance and desirability (makeup and nails are one thing, but an expensive push up bra is 1000% sexualizing them). Being exposed to that and the additional inappropriate attention they will get from older men, is going to make it difficult for these young kids to become well-adjusted adults with healthy relationship boundaries. I have professional experience working with pre-teens and teens, particularly kids who are going through really tough situations. All too often our girls are sexualized and objectified at such young ages, and that leads them down dark paths and makes them vulnerable to abuse, assault and self harm. I am genuinely concerned for your nieces and the things this path will expose them to. It's good they have you as at least one sane role model in their lives; it may not seem like much, but your presence will have more of a protective influence than you know. I just hope these little girls are allowed to enjoy being children.

Like parents are the supreme authority in the house, full stop- your preteen can’t drive themselves to the mall, they don’t have their own bank accounts and credit cards- if they’re being a public nuisance and spending hundreds of dollars on makeup it’s because their parent isn’t stopping them. Like how does it not occur to parents to just… take away their electronics and refuse to drive them anywhere but school until they learn to behave? Or just teach them manners and empathy in the first place?

I think the issue stems from many reasons, a lot of younger parents when they were kids had their parents treat them very badly so now they're overcorrecting by being to permissive. We're going through a cost of living crisis and a lot of parents aren't home as much as they used to be so they're spending money whatever money left over they have on their kids and don't want to say no because they don't want their kids to be mad at them. A lot of parents are also just exhausted and giving their kid an iPad lets them have a break, which is obviously very damaging in the long run. It's absolutely the parents fault but we need to look at the external factors as to why so many parents are choosing to parent this way

In this case though since it's children and not pets. I'd say it's both the children and parents faults because the children should know better and should have some common sense and knowledge at like the age of 10 to be respectful and kind and not spoiled bratz who don't get everything they want (like lululemons and drunk whatever dew elephant and some retarded 60 dollar stanley cup when you could just get a walmart cup for like couple bucks) but it's also parents faults for not disciplining and setting rules/guidelines/restrictions/boundaries for their children and less screen time. They are just letting them do whatever they want whenever they want and trying to be friends with their children rather than parents. So it's both who are in the wrong.

AS AN 11 year old who is turning 12 in 20 behavior is RATCHET. I do in fact go to Sephora every like two months cause ya know I ant made out of money but, I like buying some makeup because I have a sister who is turning 15 soon and she sometimes WERES a little makeup and skin care but I just like wearing makeup because it gave me a little boost of confidence and you know of corse I want to grow up. But I NEVER EVER EVERRRRR would do the disgusting things to the testers and all. The things the Sephora workers have to do and deal with that. That’s not what they are getting payed for. Also I agree what 10-12 needs anti aging cream 😐 that makes your skin WORSE. They buy all that cause it popular and they want to show off to their friends and act cool and all. But most products are making your skin worse and you want to keep buying them to cover up the mess the products create. The on,y skincare 10-12 ages close to that should only be using like a cleanser or face cream like CeraV and for makeup I say that girls in that age gap should at max curl their eye lashes and maybe we’re like a slightly pigmented blush if they want the sensation that there wearing makeup. 😅 thank you for reading this. my sister is one of the “sephora 10year olds” and the reason she likes skincare products so much is because she saw it on tiktok. she saw older influencers making reviews and telling her she NEEDS these skincare products/makeup in order to be pretty and popular and it’s actually really sad for me to see. she’s a consumerist as she buys whatever new thing that’s advertised to her and ends up using it once or twice before she gets something new. it’s social media and beauty standards that are being presented to the newer generation that makes these kids want to buy these products and eventually develop a negative body image because of it. the reason us as kids never did any of this stuff is because the kids tv we were watching didn’t have adults telling us that the newest skincare product was a must-have like tiktok does.

You might want to talk with your parents about this so they stop giving her the means to keep buying stuff she doesn't use up. Yes she will probably throw a tantrum about it. But she should learn she can't always get everything she wants. And if she really wants something she will have to save up money for it. That last bit is something my parents did with me growing up. If i wanted something it was either a birthday present. Or I'd have to save up. Sometimes it was a special occasion. But you get the point. You need to talk to them about it.

I don’t actually think that solves anything. If her parents stop giving her money, she may find other means in which she can purchase those items. The problem comes down to advertising and marketing on sites like Tiktok and KZfaq. It’s the pressures that are being pushed onto young children that cause them to do these things.

@@user-pz2dq6qt3y what you are saying is also true. but if the parents do instill the lessons of saving up money for an item, it will hopefully teach the kid money management and how long it would take to buy something. like as a kid i wanted a playset of a Toy Line i had. i saved up my birthday money and allowance to purchase that set eventually. which was a lesson in how much stuff i want costs. and yes influencer marketing and such. it's a plague and if the kid steals the parents creditcard. to buy it. expect punishment. if the parents don't write it off as a silly kid thing. so it's really the marketing that's an issue, but also the parents of the kids begging for the item just giving it to them each time they want a thing thats also a problem. and the fact more places expect you to pay with a Credit/Debit card also makes people unaware on how much they really are spending. unlike paying in cash. kids have no idea how much something truly costs till they try and purchase something for themselves. could be as simple as giving them a 10 bill and saying they can pick something for that amount. but of course guiding them.

So true! I refuse to spend that kind of money when there’s the ordinary, and we’re lucky enough to have a Japanese market that carries all sorts of affordable Japanese skin care. If I had a kid who wanted Drunk Elephant, I’d probably look at her like she’d lost her mind. “When you’re a grownup earning your own money you can buy it, but that’s too expensive even for me to buy for myself.” All they need at that age, if they’re interested, is a gentle face wash and to get in the habit of using sunscreen every day. This feels like the outgrowth of parents who bought their kids every candy bar they screamed for in the supermarket when they were little, and now they’re throwing tantrums for DE and Lulu. And the kids are on their devices all the time? Their parents probably are too. Don’t make a reel or a TikTok complaining about your kid being online all the time when you’re scrolling your phone every spare minute. Kids mimic the adults in their lives.

It’s sephora, we all wanted to try lipstick and makeup when we were younger because we saw it on tv or in magazines. Tik tok influencers didn’t need to exist for trends to be a thing.🤷🏻‍♀️ These girls’ behaviour and how entitled they are is a big problem though. That’s clearly a huge lack of parenting and boundaries. And it should be called out but without publicly humiliating children by posting videos of them online??? They are kids who did not consent to this. We all had embarrassing and cringe moments as kids and thankfully people didn’t record them to post them online. It’s just sad tbh. nah, you should be mean, shit is so annoying 😭😭 its parents not knowing how to raise their kids, they need to know how to actually be parents and not just leave them in places that aren’t really meant for kids 😭🙏

THANK YOU!! I've been saying how places like Club Penguin, Webkinz, Tinker Bell online, and other mmos don't exist anymore! We need those spaces for pre-teen, especially pre-teen girls, to express themselves amongst their peers safely.
@mommy2libras

Well many of those ended up being spaces that predators used to meet children online and then sometimes in person. The need exists but only for a company who cares more about the safety of children than making money and that's not how companies operate, msad to say.

also schools forcing teachers to do more paperwork vs teaching one to one and parents forced to work long hours so kids dont really get to do as much socialising without these influencers and stores becoming their go to thing to do. Like you saw in the video theyre still kids making slime but its just expensive stuff.

@@LianeCarinawait, people stopped playing with dolls at 10?! Like they’re still children then! I still played with my Barbie’s even when I was past 10 years old. In fact, I don’t think I stopped playing with dolls until sometime after I graduated the fifth grade.
