Here's most of a complete broadcast (albeit with the first five minutes missing) of the syndicated $100,000 Name That Tune as aired over WMAQ Channel 5. The host is Tom Kennedy, the announcer and voiceover is John Harlan, the contestants are O.K. Holmes and Sandy Foley, and the in-house vocalists are Dan Younger and Monica Burrus.
Includes:
Recording comes in midway through Round 1, during commencement of second wheel spin (for $500), then a third (for Double $500 = $1,000), fourth (for $500 plus a new car) and fifth (for Double $1,000 = $2,000)

Next round, where contestants are to name as many tunes as possible in 30 seconds (with opening plug for Lowrey organ and piano), ends up in tie breaker, with winner qualifying for playoffs; at the end, O.K.'s wife comes out on stage to hug him, while Sandy doesn't exactly leave empty-handed; plugs for Kroehler 5-piece seating pieces, Emperor grandfather clock, Panasonic 25-inch console color TV and shortwave radio receiver, and luggage from American Tourister (gorilla not included)

I loved watching this show in the 70’s as a yoot. I remember when Tom Kennedy and Elaine Joyce were guests on Password Plus for a week. Seemed like a genuine good guy. Thanks for airing!

Casey's "This is NBC" led into a episode of "Here's Boomer", which was followed by that fledging hit, "The Facts of Life."

"Here's Boomer" did not last long. And it looked like "The Facts of Life" might follow suit. But a rearranging of the cast, trimming it down to four main girls, and one of them a new one as a street-wise lady named "Jo" turned the series around.

@@cdelano81 Yeah but, as I recall, they got rid of the best looking girls. I was 14 years old at the time. When they trimmed the cast, they didn't give us quantity or quality.

I never get this line of thinking... Cost of living differences between 1980 and 2020s makes $5 then $18.50 now... you can get a center cut sirloin at logans roadhouse down the street from me for 18.39, that's about the quality of steak a sizzler was. So ... what are you "harkening back for?"... yes it was a $5 steak then, but the median us income was $17k in 1980... it was $75k in 2023.

Today a house is $1M. 20 years ago that same house was $20.000. 20 years ago middle class job made about $75k to $100k today middle class job makes about the same. I was able to buy a house 20 years ago. There’s no fricken way I could today. At least here in California.

Hi,@jnadle1, I hope you enjoyed the show. The studio audience thought I had been first to have a chance naming the tie-breaker tune, "Come Saturday Morning" I knew this tune immediately as it was a long-time favorite. Anyway, the entire experience was still a dream come true and everyone was wonderful. Kindest Regards, Sandy Foley

I know Ralph Edwards is rich, but I don't think he's THAT rich. Besides, I don't think the country was ready for a game show with a $1M prize. Not until 1986, that is, when Jim Lange (who hosted the NTT remake in 1984) hosted the $1M Chance of a Lifetime.

Seems like they gave away far too much cash and prizes on Tom Kennedy's version than the 1984 reboot with Jim Lange, who was still hosting The Dating Game when this aired.
@cdelano81
@cdelano81 2 жыл бұрын
That's because the Kennedy version only aired once a week. Many syndicated prime time game shows were weekly a la $25k pyramid (Cullen), New Treasure Hunt and several others, and could afford to give away more. Lange's version aired five days a week and could NOT be able to give them away as freely.
