FAQ:
Q: What is the build you use for the entire engineer loadout when using the Lok-1? A: My next video will be exactly what you ask and I will explain my reasoning behind it with video clips for the engineer. For now though if you go onto my EDD videos it has my breach cutter load out. I obviously use plasma grenades and the following:
Sentry guns: Gemini; defender; max ammo; max mag
Platform: repellent and ammo.
Armour: -1 second delay; overcharger; shockwave
Pickaxe: reduced delay
Passive perks: friendly; born ready; resupplier
Active: Dash; shield link
Q: Do you need to hit all 8 shots for T5 +20% damage and the executioner weak point damage bonus? A: You only need to ensure you have 8 locks across any number of targets to activate these. If the targets die before firing all 8 shots you will still get the bonus as long as when you started firing there were 8 locks on.
Q: Is T5 upgrade slot 1 a good option with T3 upgrade slot 1? A: I was going to put this into the video but thought I would put people to sleep... Here we go though. T3 S1 is for 20% damage against electrocuted and ignited targets, T5 S1 applies electrocution on targets that are hit when they have 3 or more locks. This can be helpful with the slow. Electrocution also applies 36 damage over 3 seconds.
If we look at what we potentially lose. My build with damage at T1. 27 Damage +20% = +5.4 for a total of 32.4 per shot, a bonus of 43.2 instant damage across the 8 shots. Ammo at T1 = +4.2 for a total of 25.2 per shot and a bonus of 33.6.
With executioner we also get an additional +50% to weak point hits making that damage boost 64.8 let alone applying the base weak point damage boost anyway. This is a huge amount of additional damage to potentially lose.
You may get it back by applying your first burst of damage and applying electrocution, to then gain the +20% from shooting an electrified target but it seems janky and unreliable to me. You also lose super blow through rounds which are guaranteed to help you most games.
With 8 locks at most you are only electrifying 2 targets. The 36 damage over 3 seconds goes against the burst speed of the executioner overclock, you will also be applying the electrocution quicker than every 3 seconds and likely bursting the target to death before achieving 6 seconds of electrocution damage. I think keep that option for Explosive Chemical Rounds.

Stick with it. You will improve a lot as you go. Making sure you have 8 locks will save your ammo and improve your DPS. Rock and stone!

One point that gets overlooked with damage teir 1 is that it brings you up to 27. That allows you to 2 tap a grunt on haz 4/5 since with their weakpoint multiplier your damage goes up to 54, and grunts have 108 health. Electrochemical rounds bonus multiplier of 20% stacks if the target is both electrocuted and ignited for a multiplier of 40%. This can be achieved consistently by using electrocute on 3 shots and inferno oc with the breachcutter. Thanks for providing such insightful content.

Great points! I have played around with the 3 locks electrical ECR at tier 3 and inferno on the BC. It is viable and performs well. I still find more often I prefer to have super blowthrough and HVC on the breach cutter but both are viable. R&S!

Thank you for the guide! This is a good example of why you should always look for other viewpoints; I use mine as an efficient horde killer and save my Shard Diffractor for single target damage. It... works? I've never even thought about using a primary as something besides a general purpose weapon!

I use the smart rifle for both big targets and swarm But I mainly use the laser for big targets and when a swarm gets too close for comfort. Now I know how Sonic feels when going up against eggman. Lock on and lasers

Got the explosive chemical rounds recently and damn, this thing is a blast. With a hyper propellant and a few lures in the pocket engineer just deletes the entire population of Hoxxes without a sweat. Small bugs, big bugs, really big bugs(hyper prop for those bad boys) - they just become not alive with a bang at the moment you release third lock. Gun just feels so great with those upgrades - especially when you have a pocket sniper rifle to noscope the menace or praetorian on the celling.

dash is so mandatory for high level play that it should be made innate for all classes, that way we would be able to chose and use other active perks with the free slot. Great video, it was very clarifying, even though I'm a 1.4k+ hours player

Dash is definitely not mandatory for high level play. It's a great perk don't get me wrong. But if you're good enough you never have to use it. I almost never use it.

Great video and explaining! So happy I'm not alone with this greedy high priority setup for loki) Also I like to take clean overclock on breachcutter for more ammo. It's so much fun to run this build with a group. But I still prefer ammo perk in tier 1 for loki if running solo) Rock and stone, brother!

Really glad you enjoyed the video! It is really fun to use. Don't think I would have done as many extra hours of DRG without the fun of using this gun this season. Yeah I used that ovetclock on the BC for ages. Can't go wrong with it. I just find HVC works for me and 2 shots is normally enough. Happy hunting! Rock and stone!

It doesn't need extra ammo, especially for your build focusing damage per shot. Engineer ESPECIALLY as they already have a sentry and wave clear secondaries Like the shotty and stubby are great for trash to tough threats and still get to specialize how you want. Like with scout you can go for a weak spot hitting build with the sniper and the bolts but then you're so focused in that you don't have anything efficient for the trash mobs. Drillers flame is the best for trash, I don't focus it anymore into that. I turn it into DPS, CC, and reach which costs me more ammo

I'm primarily a Scout player who focuses on mining and high-profile targets, and I fully advocate the Lok-1. This weapon alone has almost converted me into an Engineer main...almost. ;) Your example clips were great. I do wonder what the Scout was doing while you were taking out so many high-profile long-range threats, though. Still, glad to see it doesn't all fall on the Scout anymore!

I know been said a few time, but great video man, it was a good watch and really open my eye to blow though rounds on the LOK-1. While I dont have executioner yet, or many Overclocks for that matter. I have been using the LOK-1 with a 2-1-1-1-1 build and the armor breaking module (clean overcloak) and to par with it is a 2-1-1-2-2 breach cutter with inferno and LURES for my grenades. I have the LOK-1 still taking out key targets, but I have the option to slow them down and bust though the armor if I have the time and space to do so with the clean over cloak. LURES are good against swarms of bugs and hitting oppressors and other tanks in their weakpoints as well as being great for making your breach cutter shoots more armo effectint and buying you time to ether making a risky revive or distract some of the priority targets that you might not have spotted. Once I get more overcloaks I will most likely change this build around as its more build around the slow nature of the starend LOK-1 and not the executioner mod. The executioner mod is just faster in ever way and time is everything in haz 5, but despite what I said It has still done a great job in haz 5 for my engineer and has been my go to loadout for EDD and solo play. here's a video that I found of someone analyzing the inferno mod ( kzfaq.info/get/bejne/pZ6IpaRmvNOucnU.html ) and you can see by itself can keep up with the regular breach cutter for many of the standard mobs. The 5 secs of having an increase fire dot can still do great chip while lining up those shots, but I have mainly used it to procs the fire half of electric chem and the LOK-1 can get the other half if the bug isn't immune to being electrified.

Sounds like you are having some great results and your build is really interesting. The inferno video was also very interesting. I had kind of written off the overclock but it has made me think twice about it, thanks for sharing. let me know how you get on when you get executioner or if you have success with other overclocks! Yea I will, have a feeling that it will do better and with the LOK-1 doing more damage it might be better to switch of Inferno for the armor shred but I’ll have to some experimenting.

@@GamingExistence Oh 2 things that I didn't really mention and might be nice to know is that the LOK-1 heavy benefits from animation canceling the reload, Almost cutting the time to reload in HALF if done perfectly. ( kzfaq.info/get/bejne/irdgYNykvZO-iGg.html ) And that electric chem 20% stacks if the target is both shocked and on fire. There's also other oddities with the bonus damage (kzfaq.info/get/bejne/odKjlpakmKreeJs.html).

Good video. I just now passed 100 hours played " got every class promoted too " and been using the Lok1 a lot since I saw it in the assignments page. CP 2077 smart rifles were a blast to use and it definitely does the whole " intelligent fire" right. A little thing I've noticed about the rifle and my ammo consumption is that I will NEVER hit progenitors or praetors at range and that helps conserve my ammo. I will ping or call them out whenever I see them coming, but if I am in a 4 man party the other classes are better suited for those two armored targets. I dont consider them high threats, -> at range. They are an ammo trap. If they reach the party they usually die before I even have to think about them being there. The lok1 has 4 reloads. FOUR! If you dont take the ammo on tier 1 . . . . That is a joke. They need to give it the base, what you have with tier one modification. Maybe they chance the modification on tier one to compensate, but for casual players who arent looking at improving at the game or becoming competent at how to play in the higher levels it will as you said make it much more approachable. When I do longer dives, without looking at overclock I usually like to do the Smart Targeting Software because they increased base lock to 12 and I just rely on my team for fodder since they know I will prioritize anything from above. The lok1 really needs the ammo, a full clip might kill 3-8 dedicated targets "out of hundreds of bugs, thats pretty abyssal" even if they are "high priority" . . . it generally leaves casuals feeling that it is almost unsuitable except for short missions.

I have started doing something quite similar with oppressors and preatorians, rather than not shooting I take a bit more time to ensure or limit wasting ammo. Good idea though! I really found the SMRT gear mod causes more issues. Like you say, without overclocks maybe it is good but it is counter intuative to multiple overclocks and even other gear mods on the gun. Ammo can be a bit of a joke on anything other than Executioner and ECR. This is why I made the poll your thoughts post on steam. I think if you use it more you will start to feel its power. Going back to the stubby and pinging long range targets instead of killing them myself highlights it every time for me.

Thanks for the comments. I used ECR for about 5 matches only so not lots of experince. Really annoyed me trying to limit locks to 3 but, it is good for the hordes for sure. I found the Lok-1 lack of ammo was not great when focusing hordes. Lots of people on the forums swear by ECR though! I like executioner because it allows the engineer to kill threats quickly and still manage hordes.

I run this exact setup, minus the overclock (don't have one yet). I've been using the shredder grenades to help with ammo, they completely clear waves of weaker enemies and chunk the health of stronger ones for 40 seconds straight. I haven't gotten into haz5 stuff yet so i'm not sure how good they are there, but so far I haven't had too many ammo issues. I often find myself wanting more grenades than ammo because of how useful they've been. I also use the shard diffractor as my secondary as its pretty good for emergency wave clearing, and does insane damage to boss weak points.

Lok-1 does not have ammo issues. It has a different problem: only two viable builds with Executioner and ECR. With these Overclocks and proper target choice ammo is not a problem.

recently started to use it, i dont have many ocs yet but i found myself using the cut breach for burst instead of my primary, it does insane amount of damage to armored bugs, i go with the 3 lanes setup with a lot of ammo and clip size so i can just blast through a dreadnought with 6 shots and nothing else, also proximity mines

Yeah i do miss having a larger magazine size on the breach cutter! I used to love promixity mines but sine season 2 and using the Lok-1 I have gone over to plasma and really liking them. Happy hunting for the overclocks! R&S

i never had ammo issue with lok1. i mainly play solo or duo so i could have all of those resupply myself. still a good explaination video btw.

Yeah solo duo or even with 3 and being able to take additional ammo reduces that issue. To be fair most EDD with 4 people you get to the final mission with loads of extra nitra. Wondering if more players need to take more damage options and just call in more resupplies!

As much as many people love the LOK-1 I'm not super into it. I would rather use Magnetic Pellet Alignment Warthog for most missions with Hyper Propellant or RJ250 PGL. Something about the 1-2 shot for most fodder, and the burst fire for either Hordes or for blasting a Dread/Opressor is just how I like to play. But good video!

One help quality of life change for this weapon would to have the bullet trajectory laser change color to something like green or blue if your hovering over a weak point. I find that I often waste a lot of ammo thinking I was aiming at the weak point.

I use a very similar build but with inferno on the BC and electro chemical rounds on the lok. I will have to give blowthrough a try. Still running ammo in tier1 though until they buff it.

Yeah I was playing around with your build yesterday albeit still taking damage at tier 1. Both work well but I still prefer HVC on the BC and blowthrough. Inferno loses a lot of armour shredding that is handy on dreddy's and the slow on HVC is really useful. Also caught in a bad situation the blowthrough will help. Both are viable and good though! @@GamingExistence Update: I've switched over to Blowthrough for my multiplayer build since I can't rely on the widebeam breach cutter as much to destroy hordes due to the more chaotic nature of multiplayer. Also widebeam can cause friendly fire issues especially on Salvage ops.

@@chunderfpv good call. I would think you would need the extra BC ammo at tier 2. The more I edit videos together the more I see how good super blowthrough rounds is. You get far more benefit even if you don't always see it or feel it. Been doing some slow motion edits recently for other reasons but then see the blowthrough being really strong. Thanks the update! Also a LOK-1 main, but I find myself usually drawn to the Seeker Rounds... Felt like big targets go down faster with the ignore armor (less time trying to get the best angle, particularly with hard targets in tight tunnels). Have you compared against executioner?

I think alot of issues that people have with the Lok-1 is that they can't act like a lombotomized gunner and just kill everything all willy-nilly. They either find themselves in tough situations like swarmers or the like and happen to be without their turrets up, since they opt'd for more damage rather than build speed. The fact the matter remains is that it's too SITUATIONAL compared to other weapons that allow you to kill just about anything (not a single swarmer, mind you.) and not be penalized by ammo consumption. Sure, the Hawkeye system and the Lok-1's target system gets threats from farther away, but in most mission types, that shouldn't be an issue unless you're soloing and having to stay in a certain area like Salvage missions. But, as they say, "Give enough monkeys typewriters and one of them will produce Shakesphere." And you, my friend, have made Shakesphere

At very close ranges, I find tap-firing the LOK-1 is more effective. Generally you can spam down 1 or 2 targets before you would be able to get the locks.

Not silly at all! I would assume they only go through small targets. I could be wrong, it seems likely a fair assumpsion to make that they won't go through oppressors preatorians, dreddys and so on.

Blowthrough does go through heavy armor(like oppressor plates). It still won't damage the oppressor that way but you can shoot things behind it.

What main do you use instead? The Executioner overclock for me is the best one, some people swear by Explosive Chemical Rounds though. When I first used each overclock a few times I thought the gun was rubbish. Now I main engineer with Lok-1 and Executioner. Watch the video and perhaps give Executioner a good ten games in a row and see how you feel. Rock and stone!

_Slaps ECR LOK and Hyperpropellant Deepcore on the table_ Not gonna lie I *don't* like Executioner. I just can't get along with it. Maybe it's because ECR LOK happens to work better with my Vampire addiction. Regardless, LOK feels like it necessitates you to build around it and I definitely enjoy that change from the Warthog and Stubby.

Try both and see what you think. But with executioner you want to target specific enemies often at range. The wider angle can make it harder to get all the locks on HVT (high value targets) ((see my scout suggested gameplay video for more info)). That's why I suggest the smaller target but see how your gameplay works with both. Rock and stone!

Im very curious why you use blowthrough rounds when you argue this is for high priority threats, taking the upgrade that gives more damage to those electrocuted or on fire is very good when paired with the BC, i also go for 12 lock ons to kill things shy of a praetorian in 1 burst, or if i use the BC to ignite or shock then the 12 shot burst will immediately kill the praetorian if you hit all 12 shots ni the weakpoint which is very easy

More details in the link below with a video where I go into more detail regarding your question. I have started to use inferno on the BC and will try the ECR and EGM again but at the moment I am still sticking to what I say in the video below. Blowthrough has saved me multiple times, the +40% is very situational. Regarding 12 locks, I can see why it looks good on paper. In reality though it will cost full lock potential and slows you down applying those locks. Let alone magazine size causing issues where you need 12 ammo to get the executioner bonus. Go back to 8 locks and give both a bit of trial, I think you will end up with 8 locks. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/m62gZqtiq7enomg.html

i love the lok 1 its a big brain weapon with picking ur targets i get people all the time who say "why do u have that gun" by the end of the mission they are asking "how do u rock that gun so well" dont get me wrong i like the turret whip and it has its place but so does the lok1 as it adds this new way to place i love being able to lock on half turn and unleash a hail of bullets at my friends and hear them freak out only to have the grunt guts fly into their face as i yell rock and stone.

Thank you for the guide! I was just playing and it seems like they changed the Lok-1 to now have a base lock number of 12 instead of 8. Does this change any of your thoughts about the weapon? It takes quite a while to get all 12 locks on a single target.

LOK-1 with ECR oc can do an oppressor in less than a magazine. + kills swarms even faster and more efficently + slows down whatever it hits + scares them off with explosions 650 kills when your team average was 250.

Great information. I might test it and put in into a video. That ECR vs oppressor with less than one magaziine. Is that making sure you stop at 3 locks and get the explosion damage? Presumably the time to kill increases but ammo is saved? Also if this in reference to the oppressor I pause and zoom in on. I actually realise at one point I only get 7 locks, thus losing the +20% from tier 5 and the +50% from Executioner. Making that clip... Less than useful... My bad :(

@@GamingExistence yeah, you sacrifice your time for ammo. Still use more than anyone else on the team though. Keeping it on 3 locks only is easy for single targets, for swarms you need to have them up close though.

lok-1 should have like +200 ammo or at least +100 ammo buff. imo smart rifle is the best with max damage, but i use ammo mod because why not. Executoner and tier 5 damage mod are enough rn for me.

honestly my problem with loki is the fact that arcing ur shots seems weird and unintuitive. Visually it looks like it bends right in front of u and then flies in a straight line but from those clips i can clearly see that it's not true and it does like half a circle or something idk like especially on 11:06 it just seems like it should hit the armor

I think the point you marked looks ok to me. It's going up over and hitting the bulbous weakpoint on the back. But I agree sometimes it looks like you hit armour but don't, other times it deals no damage when it looks ok. Hopefully this is something that can be improved with animation tweaks. Good spot though!

People like Seeker and ECR. If you don't have any of those or Executioner I wouldn't use it on an EDD but give it a shot on other missions to see if you like it

I still think, that it need A LOT MORE ammo. In a normal party there is always will be a scout. And scout's top priority - is to kill big dangerous bugs. So why do we need two scouts? I've finished descent amount of high haz missions and if there was a failure, it wasn't because of oppressor or pretorian. It was because of TONS of grunts or swarmers. Still think, that Lok-1 - is the weakest primary for Engie (sorry for my bad english, it's not my native langusge)

I understood your point perfectly. Oppressors can cause issues. Acid spitters, mactera and menaces are the biggest threats though when it comes to non grunt swarm threats. I even liked it first, but the more missions i played with lok-1, the more problems I realised. It's sad for me, that the most interesting gun - is (IMHO) at the same time the weakest. @@GamingExistence One of the main problems is a decent time and often occurring delay when firing. Almost all conventional weapons work like this: You aim at the enemy for a few milliseconds -> you pull the trigger -> enemies immediately start taking damage and soon their number decreases. There are other guns (cryo and leadstorm). The shooting pattern is different there: You aim for a few milliseconds -> you pull the trigger -> you wait about 0.5 seconds -> you start dealing damage. But these two guns are very different from the same lok-1, because if you start shooting, then you can shoot for a long time and deal stable high damage. Bugs that get closer to you die at a much more stable rate. And you do not need to wait AGAIN after each burst. For lok-1: you aim for a few milliseconds -> you hold the trigger -> you wait -> you fire a small salvo -> you aim -> you hold the trigger -> you wait -> you fire a small salvo... And so on. Not the most comfortable shooting I would say In the game, where there are a lot of melee opponents, they are fast and tend to get close, these constant delays greatly spoil the use of weapon. Lok-1 is not just bad at close range. It is VERY bad at close range. Compared to the m-1000, which is usually used at long range, the lok-1 loses again. m-1000 is not so convenient to use in complete darkness, yes, but the scout has lights. At long distances, the m-1000 shows itself remarkably well, and helps very well when fighting priority targets. But she also helps quite well to shoot bugs crawling close, because it has decent dps (Which will be less during one burst lok-1, but the overall dps is still higher, because there is no need to wait between shooting), high total dmg (It's twice as big as lok-1's. Yes, you may not hit with 100% accuracy, but even 80% accuracy gives you an extra 30% of total damage, excellent accuracy and ease of shooting. My opinion is that lok-1 MUST have almost the same total damage as stubby, because one weapon performs well at close and medium range, but mediocre at long range, and the second, on the contrary, is excellent at further, acceptable at medium and bad at close range. Another problem with calculating total stubby damage is that electricity damage doesn't count. It's 30 damage with a 25% chance (unless upgraded). If we calculate the maximum efficiency (which is unrealistic of course, but just for calculations), then it turns out that the maximum damage from electricity is about 5000. Even if we assume that we realize only a quarter of this potential, we get another 1250 total damage. That's equal to 60 lok-1 rounds (no damage upgrade) and it's HORRIBLE. It turns out that the stabby doesn't really have a total damage between 4500 (the very minimum) and 7800 (the maximum at 12111 and light-weight rounds). It's somewhere between 7000 (minimum and bad build) and 12000 (good build + decent shooting) depending on the nature of your shooting and build. Oh yes, I forgot to say that there is another + 30% weakspot, which I did not count, but I'm too lazy to recalculate (to be honest, it should be mentioned that these 30% refer only to the first component of damage and do NOT affect electricity damage). And for lok-1, everything is almost the same as it is: 5000 total + weakspot bonus. Otherwise, we CANNOT guarantee that ALL of our hits will be on wkspt - then +0.8 wkspt cannot be directly applied in calculations either. And if we assume that ABSOLUTELY every shot we fired was at a weakspot, we would get damage in the region of 9000. I decided to recalculate the ABSOLUTE (and unattainable) maximum for stubby. This is 7800*1.3+5000 = 15000. It doesn't really make sense, but just for beauty))) I'm not even going to draw any conclusion. I have expressed my opinion in the text. What do you say, friend, is such a detailed answer enough for you?))

I tried the weapon and put it down because it just didn't feel as good as the warthog but i might give it another shot now, but the question is: Do i need executioner to make the weapon viable? I just started playing engineer and i don't have overclocks for it.

The general consensus is that Executioner makes it but the ECR overclock and Seeker overclock also get a lot of love. If you don't have an OC I would use something different on an EDD until you get one of the above overclocks. Lots of people say it performs great with no OC on lower than H5 and some even found it ok on H5 with no OC. I will leave you to decide. Rock and stone!

@@kazakhstanceo OC'S can make a big difference compared to vanilla guns. Also most guns have a learning curve, trying different gear mods and OC'S until you find the sweet spot that is good regarding build and your skill using it. The Lok-1 is probably on the extreme end if not most extreme for that process. I picked it up multiple times and could not get on with it until I got executioner, played around with it loads and realised how powerful it is.

I want to love this weapon but the outcome for how hard it is to play it isn't worth it for me at this point imo. I hope i can get one of the good overclocks and give it a good shot beacuse i am not a huge fan of the warthog either. (edit: i got executioner litterally 2 minutes after writing this comment wtf)

no reason to kill oppressors at that range and waste ammo. get the third mod in the second row. 35m range but easier to use up close. in no scenario will you need 50m range, not even for a menace

Every weapon in this game is viable, if used right and by the good players every weapon can carry, cause its the player thats running it. Ppl always crying about wepons, this game is prob the most balanced out there, just use stuff and get good tbh😂

@@pingawingman7710 What do you use to cancel the animation? I have been using right click but it stops the run animation. I was thinking of using the ping scanner as you can run whilst doing it but I woul dneed to remap it to a mouse friendly button. Right click is just so easy....

My next video will be exactly what you ask and I will explain my reasoning behind it with video clips for the engineer. For now though if you go onto my EDD videos it has my breach cutter load out. I obviously use plasma grenades and the following: Sentry guns: Gemini; defender; max ammo; max mag Platform: repellent and ammo. Armour: -1 second delay; overcharger; shockwave Pickaxe: reduced delay Passive perks: friendly; born ready; resupplier Active: Dash; shield link Hope it helps. I use these but experiment and find what you like! Rock and stone brother!

The Lok-1 only saving grace is that it has a cool gimmick and gives Engi a fine range option. But still feels kinda bad to use. It feels really disappointing when the most optimal way to use Lok-1 is build it for minimum lock-ons, reduced lock-on field and really sparingly to not run out of ammo within seconds. A Lok-1 engi is a drag to the team, that only barely fights, yet needs to double dip often.

Alright, no more clowning around, I cannot watch this propaganda. Tazer stubby trades burst damage at range with a much more powerful stun at range PLUS the 50% chance to stun if you feather the trigger (That first bullet is always very accurate) PLUS you can still full auto mow down hordes. Lok-1 is gimick in comparison. I appreciate all the effort you put into this, but I can not watch this propaganda.

Over penetration is kinda pointless since every shot fixates and homes in to independent targets. The whole thing about "focusing the threats" sacrificing ammo and utility feels meaningless. When you can easily depend on teammates to help or your secondary to weaken or kill the stronger enemies.
