Jehu, I've got an existing Enphase grid tied solar array, 15 kW peak production. On a typical summer day we produce 80-90 kWh. What drives me crazy is that our power company required the system to be tied directly to the grid, we have no direct electrical connection between our solar and our house. To fix this situation we need batteries. I'm looking for an AC coupled battery system that will play nice with the Enphase solar to allow us to be grid-tied 98% of the time and automatically switch over to battery and solar power for the 2% of the time that our grid goes down (which happens 4-6 times per year unfortunately). Batteries like this for $100/kWh are really tempting but of course the key is sourcing the right AC coupled inverter/charger. Do you have a recommendation?

bms is a must on these, are these pouch cells and can be charged to 100% to balance, or a cobalt chemistry? Amazing quick build. 100kwh for $10k.

My biggest concern with Li-Ion in powerwalls is the fact of how volatile they are. Since they are sealed, I'd be very interested in seeing what happens if a module gets shorted till total failure. Also, what if its sittiing in a fire, does it eventually fail catastrophically? Or does either test result in failures being totally contained (ie it wouldn't affect adjacent cells)?
@Ryukachoo
@Ryukachoo 11 ай бұрын
Fires on these are basically unheard of, since power wall batteries are under very low stress, far less stress than EV batteries which are BRUTALLY discharge and charged

If you can verify that each individual cell never goes above 4.2v then these are not a fire risk unless they get physically damaged or flooded with salt water. I regularly check the individual cell voltage plus I only charge to 90% when dealing with used batteries. Making sure they never go over 4.2v

Hi. Just watched your video. I was just wondering about charging. Could I charge one of these units using a standard car battery charger or even better one of the affordable 100W solar panel and 20A or 30A charge controllers available on ebay. Or does the battery have to be charged using the unique connector you refer too? Many thanks in advance

You can charge it with any equipment you can set the max voltage of 12.6v per module, this excludes most 12v chargers and 12v solar charge Controllers. Variable power Supply is your best bet

WARNING: Jaguar Land Rover North America, LLC (Jaguar) is recalling certain 2019-2024 Jaguar I-PACE vehicles. The high-voltage battery may overheat. Consequence: The high-voltage battery overheating increases the risk of a fire. Remedy: The battery energy control module software will be updated by a dealer, or through an over-the-air (OTA) update.

I saw that too but i already bought them. The issue im having is that i can't read all the cells through the connector on some of them. I speculate, with what I'm seeing, maybe the cell connections weren't complete and that was throwing off the bms since not all the cells were in check.

@homdiddlyoh bring a previous buyer from Jehu on several battery types and thousands spent.. I can say that without a doubt, nothing has been top quality. I'm honestly just going to buy new from now on and actually get a warranty and not deal with the hassles. His "great prices" aren't even great with these issues.

@ecospider5

Yes you just have to verify the slight voltage difference is not a problem. Then find out the max current the forklift wants and make sure you battery can handle that.
@ecospider5
@ecospider5 11 ай бұрын
Also never let a lithium cell go above its max voltage. With these it’s 4.2v. But you need to verify that with each cell specifications. Over charging is the number one cause of fires second is physical damage

Looking to do a powerwall, Im currently on your webpage searching.. Can i please ask how these will work on 24v system if they are only 11v?? 2 batteries n series would only be 22v.. Also in video you start to talk about the bms but dont give much info as you switched to talking about the cable connector.. Is the bms in the Phoenix inverter and you jjust need the connector to plug into it?? Sorry for my incompetence, im learning this as i go.. Thanks bro!!
@jehugarcia

2 in series would be 22.2v. So would only work with some 24v inverters like the referenced Victron ones. Bms, you have to source it yourself, it can be any 6s li-ion units available in the market today

@mfinite689
@mfinite689 11 ай бұрын
I don't think he ever claimed to be an engineer. He's a guy who likes batteries and was doing videos about what you can do with batteries when a lot of that information wasn't available at the time. He imports batteries, figures out things you can do with the batteries, and has created a way to get those batteries to people that otherwise wouldn't have access to them. Trust him or don't trust him. No one cares.
