In which I continue my return trip to Middlewich but then do a 90 degree right turn onto the Middlewich branch of the Shropshire Union canal, get some fuel and fenders from a fuelboat, go all the way along to Barbridge and turn left onto the Shroppie, and past the entrance to the Llangollen canal.

It was good to be reminded of the Rocky Horror Picture Shoe. In the early 70s I was just starting a career in the film and TV industry and I had the job of edge numbering each day's rushes (dailies) from the studio. Every foot of the film (and the sound on 35mm audio tape) had to be sequentially numbered on an archaic printing machine and then I drove the rushes from London to Bray studios in my venerable Wolseley 1500. The excess cash from my mileage claim was usually spent on running repairs for the car.

Well done, looking forward to seeing the VLOG of you doing the Llangollen canal, we loved it. Quite a few lift bridges though, not the most convenient of obstacles when you are solo, my wife remembers dangling from the rope which was used to open one particular bridge, most were hydraulic, possibly they all are now, she was a lightweight at the time. Just came across this - how have I not seen these videos before? Thank you for taking us along...do you boat solo? The locks are a bit of a challenge by yourself, I would imagine. My wife and I did the Four Counties Ring in 2001. She was three months pregnant and had morning sickness at the time, needless to say I enjoyed the boat more than she did! This stretch on the Middlewich Branch was quite beautiful as I recall, and I think you captured that very nicely. The locks were notably deep, although I don't recall lockkeepers at Cholmondeston. I also enjoyed the railway bridge we crossed under somewhere on this branch (got scared when a train passed overhead at somewhere around 100mph faster than my speed at the time!) I would love to do that trip again, maybe 2018!

Hi David, I loved this one. The scenery is perfect (except for the sunken boat). When you made that left turn toward the end, it looked like the narrowboat TEAL didn't leave you enough room to pass. I always look forward to your next vlog. Take care.

He didn't, really. Don't know why, I was out of the turn before he got to me and I'd blasted the horn so.... who knows. Cheers
