Slicks in my opinion do help with longer rides I run 27.5x2.0 vandorm cyclone tyres on my mtb bike it’s slick but it has tread in the middle like a chopper tyre for loose gravel/wet patches for grip. these tyres I run roll hilariously fast since there’s no knobbies and there quite light for a 2.0 wide tyre I was able to give e-bikes and road bikes a run for there money when I past an Uber eats e bike at 25mph on flat terrain he looked at me weirdly since I kept up. for my gearing on my mtb I run 48/38/28 and 28x11 cassette basically a touring gear since the hills at my hometown isn’t that steep I was able to put 2.0 slick 650b tires on my 10 year old limited edition specialized hard rock the 48 tooth chainring upgrade made a difference in speed also even better with the 650b rims as there my favorite wheel size for mtb when I’m not using my road bike as there lighter than the 29ers the 29s feel sluggish in my opinion compared to 700c road bike wheels and 650b mtb wheels as both are lighter than the 29s the only time i use 29ers is for rocky trails other than that 650b is my go to

Just this morning, I did 33 km on my ZiZZO Liberté folding bike with 20" wheels for a Myeloma fundraiser. It wasn't nearly as hard as I'd feared, though doing a Century like you, I'd be deceased.

When you were talking about food & stuff to keep you going, I assumed you were taking a trailer... 😂

I rode 37 miles on one and felt like I’d been hit by a bus afterwards. Granted, it was mixed terrain with some decently unpleasant singletrack.

I had to laugh at the dude on the ebike, I was riding home up the last of three big hills when this guy sitting bolt upright with a phone to his ear powered past me like it was nothing. They're a game changer.
