Mine was neither planned nor an accident. We also were like, "whatever happens, happens". I knew I may be pregnant after 5 weeks, because my period was late when it had been every 28 days. Plus, I felt some of the same symptoms ifelt the first time (which was a miscarriage). I took my last test from a pack that I used last time, only 3 months after my D and C procedure, and it said "PREGNANT +" and I messaged my best friend. My husband was napping, so I waited until he woke up to tell him. We now have a healthy 2 year old daughter :-)

I know a couples who had this attitude right after marriage but really were in no place to have children. One couple got pregnant very quick, and the husband ended up being overseas for the military throughout most of the pregnancy and the child's first years of life. So they had to move back in with their parents. Two other couples ended up not knowing each other well enough beforehand and divorcing while their kids were young. People should really only have this attitude if they've been with their partner for years, their partner is actually on board, and they have a plan for caring for the child.

My mom says I was an “intentional accident” which is confusing, even to me sometimes lol. The gist of the story is my older sister was planned and since my parents were a bit older when they were married and tried for kids, after her they decided to just let things happen organically. They prayed about it and said “God, if you bless us with another child we will be endlessly grateful. If not, that’s alright. We will follow your will.” And I guess His will was for me to pop out 14 months after my sister LOL.

I was a surprise. My mom had difficultly having my sister and thought she would only have one child. They weren’t “not trying” for a kid, but they were not optimistic it would happen. But here I am :)

I was an "accident". I feel 100% ok about that, also because I have two older sisters and my parents were financially stable adults. These mothers are great.

I love the moms in this video. Scared, happy, thinking WTF all kinds of stories. As a woman no one ever explained to me the part of how easy it can be without trying to have a baby. My oldest (who’s 2) some how I conceived only a week after a miscarriage at 12 weeks. She was heathy, and came at 36 weeks. And less than a month later I got pregnant with my son (who was a twin but I lost him at 9 weeks) who is now 17 months. So both we’re surprises but god I wouldn’t have it any other way.

I’m shocked two of those women got abortions but were still pregnant after. I didn’t know that could happen! I think it’s very important to be intentional taking precautions if you don’t intend to have kids, of course it can still happen though. I just think people are a little too casual about accidental pregnancy, having a child, adopting, or choosing abortion are all big decisions. That should be taken seriously no matter what you choose.

It's rare but it is possible. For folks reading and curious (quoted from Planned Parenthood's website): The abortion pill is very effective. If you’re taking mifepristone and misoprostol, it depends on how far along the pregnancy is, and how many doses of medicine you take: At 8 weeks pregnant or less, it works about 94-98% of the time. At 8-9 weeks pregnant, it works about 94-96% of the time. At 9-10 weeks pregnant, it works about 91-93% of the time. If you take an extra dose of misoprostol, it works about 99% of the time. At 10-11 weeks pregnant, it works about 87% of the time. If you take an extra dose of misoprostol, it works about 98% of the time. In general, taking both mifepristone and misoprostol works a bit better than taking misoprostol only. This is why follow-up care after taking abortion pills is so important (to confirm that the abortion worked), and why abortion pills usually aren't offered after 11 weeks. If you ever experience an incomplete abortion, follow-up treatment is usually just further abortion care (more pills or an in-clinic abortion, which has a less than 1% failure rate). A pregnancy is usually not viable following an incomplete abortion, but you're welcome to ask a doctor about it if that option is important to you. If you live in a ban state, you should know that abortion and miscarriage look the same, and an incomplete abortion would be treated the same way as an incomplete miscarriage (with abortion treatments). So you don't need to disclose a prior abortion to a doctor if you don't feel safe doing that based on laws where you live.

@@Ambi1021 Their stories shouldn't have bothered you. If they felt like they were in predicaments where they couldn't handle having kids or just straight up didn't want kids it shouldn't be any of your concern.

Wow! It is wild to me that only about 20% of respondents said "no." I know it's a relatively small sample size, but still! My wife and I waited for about 10 years until we had money in the bank, stable jobs, good health insurance, etc, etc, etc. And then we still had to try for a full year!!

I wish we could get more of their stories - do they think they did a good job as parents? how did the accidental parents cope with the situation?? especially the people who were not ready/were in a bad place mentally - how did they get over it? are they happy that they have their children? it's so fascinating, but i know that venting out all of their business to the world would mean their children seeing it and i don't think that would be a nice thing. :)
