I had to take my truck in today to RE Repair the new exhaust, in Appleton Wis my sister picked me up and we went to two different Aldi's. I always leave my quarter in the cart. In the second store, a lady gave me her cart.. ha played right back to me.. While shopping I noticed an elder man, Looking at the beans and than the chunky soup he got 1 can of Chunky soup and he had the bare minimum in his cart, 1/2 gal of milk, Almond milk, bread, eggs and that one can of soup. I waited for him to pass by. I grabbed an empty soup box and filled it with 4 different flavors so there was a full case. My sister grabbed bananas. We waited for him to check out. When he checked out I called out to him but he couldn't hear me so I placed my hand on his shoulder and said excuse me I have some things for you. My sister placed the soup n bananas in his cart. He said Oh My thank you. When I put my free cart back there was a quarter in the one ahead of mine I smiled and felt like crying. There is still good people in the world and a small gesture for your fellow man, woman or child goes a long way... If your reading this and have a little extra the food pantries n animal shelters need help. I give treats of bones and pig ears for the dogs n food for the cats. We have to stick together now and do our best help others in need. The old guy wore his wedding ring and his daughter brought him to the store. She had a new baby and a full cart. I'll bet she gave him some of her food also. Times are getting tough. I am not rich but I can afford $30.00 to buy some soup for an old guy that couldn't. He had an EBT card. He is lucky if he gets $50 a month. I am rambling now. Thank you so much Jinni

Last week I spent $600 on a fill in pantry haul. It was all food for me and my elderly parents. I'm not playing any games. I see what is going to happen and I felt it was a great future investment. I'll be saving tons of money in the long run. All the food I got had a best by dates in 25. So I'm comfortable with what I did.

I did $100 Walmart online haul today and got hardly anything. Two 38-pounds of cat litter, over 50 bucks, 24 rolls of toilet paper, 300 paper plates, 12 cans of diced potatoes and a one gallon water pitcher. That's it. Things are so expensive. Just today, a friend of mine said she was reading about long term food storage. I couldn't believe it. I mentioned to her to keep in mind how much water it might take to prepare some things. It would be a good idea to balance her storage with food like soups that are ready to eat or that require only a like can of water to prepare. But, over all, I was glad to see her waking up.

Once a month. 5 kitties :2 three yr olds, a 6yr old ,a 16yr old daughter and a 21 yr old papa!!!! They come first. Been ordering pet bedding bales to mix with cat litter pine to cut down on price some. I ordered that bnm bread some time ago online cause i never see in stores now. I buy the moderna 7oz pasta in shapes and alpha bets, mexican aisle just so its fun later when things get really crappy. 6- 5 gallon buckets bout 20# each so far.

I’m on Florida’s Gulf Coast and I’m starting to see sporadic holes on the shelves. I’m also seeing the prices rise. Walmart’s instant coffee, large, has been $4.96 forever; now $5.26. Nature’s Own whole wheat bread was $3.77 for 1 loaf-we skipped it. We usually go to the bread outlet store and pay $2.59 which has gone up to $2.79; they are starting to have less and less in stock. I’m also starting to notice gas prices are going down and then back up like it’s being played with; be sure to keep your tanks topped off. Something else we do to save on ground beef - we only add a half pound to spaghetti sauce or to Mac and cheese as it helps to stretch the meals. God bless to all. Thanks for sharing, Jinnie. We are going to experience a scare event at a high level, I’m sure all here can feel it. Be safe, know and help your neighbors and once the panic buying begins, we won’t have to be involved.

It is also good to stock up on plain spaghetti pasta. It cooks faster than white rice (10 or 12 minutes versus 20 minutes), which is important if you are doing grid-down cooking with propane or butane. And the dry spaghetti pasta can pack tightly inside "military grade" thicker Mylar bags, if you want to pack pasta for long-term storage and do not want all that air space you get with macaroni or rotini pastas.

Just wanted to share an energy saving pasta cooking tip. I cook it every day(my son loves it). I boil the water as usual, add my pasta, let it boil for another minute or two, cover it, then shut off the heat, leave it covered for another 8 min, and it's done. Test it and let it sit in the hot water until it's the texture you prefer. I don't live in the US and we have stoves hooked up to propane tanks here. This has saved me A LOT on gas.

@@eyestoseeearstohear9030 I do that with rice (when I don't make it in the ovem). I'm prone to burning rice and this prevents that.😊

@@danniemcdonald7675 I haven't tried that with rice. After boiling it for a few minutes, how long do you let it sit covered with the heat off?

My walmart never carries unbleached flour, but we do like to change up our flours for different nutrients. We make two large hauls a month from different stores to price shop but I'd love to see a haul for somethings purchased online. I never know where to shop online.

Thanks Jinnie. Went to a Dollar Tree last week and they are showing more and more empty spaces and shelves, now they don't seem to even be trying to cover it up. The amount of space for actual food is very small and they were running low on a lot of things like boxed milk. Some are saying that their dollar stores are going back to $1 for some items, but watch the sizes or changes to the ingredients. For example if they had charged $1.25 for a 10 ounce product and now it's $1 but it's 8 ounces, then you're paying about the same as when it was $1.25. There have been lots of changes to the size of packages. change of ingredients and number of items in a package so something to watch. Like the dried buttermilk and have used it before, even had my husband get some a couple of weeks ago when he shopped. Our store had Gold Medal flour on sale but he noticed that there was almost no unbleached Gold Medal flour.

Beautiful haul and a great reminder, of some items. Today, I went to Costco, and bought things for prepping. I was able to find some stuff, that I couldn’t find few wks. Back there. I bought a bag of unbleached flour of 25Lbs. For $9.98, where I used to get it for $6.99. Thank you, and enjoy, what you got. 🙏👍❤️🌻✨🧡💫✝️🍂🌟

Ramen noodles - I had a few packets in my pantry and kind of forgot about them. When I opened one of them, it smelled funky (the noodles, not the seasoning packet). I tried cooking it but it was just off... definitely had gone bad. I never knew ramen noodles could go bad. And I'm totally impressed with how much you got for $100!!

Try the Basmati rice. It’s more expensive but has a lower glycemic index. I’m diabetic. I store up a lot of canned proteins. Look for sales. The Keystone meats are the cleanest. I like to store up canned Salmon and Tuna too. We also make soups (dehydrated and canned). Just use a tiny bit of carbs in them. Go heavier on the veggies. Good luck!

Keystone sells their canned meats directly. Augason Farms (and others) sell #10 cans of freeze dried broccoli, peppers, onions, green beans, and other non-carbohydrate supplies. At least that might be a start. 🙂
