My friend and i were about 14 years old when his older brother @ Calif.State Berkley called frantic and said """you have to see a concert coming to Boise next week .!! You must ."" So we did. Bought tickets and not heard of the band . My town then was backwoods country kinda .. The venue had a capacity for several thousand but only a couple hundred of us showed up ,,we all stood on floor front of the stage .Now Even though this band saw that the hall was nearly empty they still played 2 Full Hours for us there . The concert could have been easily canceled..And The Bands Name ? . . . Frank Zappa & The Mothers of Invention . lol. . wow . : ) Man whatta guy to do that ,, play two hours for us then . . . Frank Zappa was such a good man in many many ways : )

The 90s were a mixed bag. Early 90s for me was where the great music stopped. It all went downhill when the likes of Oasis and The Spice Girls appeared. I couldn't stand all that Radiohead, Nirvana, REM tripe. People seemed to go euphoric over that stuff as if it gave their life some meaning or something. I dont think it was like that in previous decades. For me the 90s was the era when it became trendy to follow certain bands as if by doing so it made you feel like you were in some kind of exclusive club.

Definitely a music child of the 70s (born in 63). One of the best times was every Sunday morning lying in bed listening to American Top 40 with Casey Kasem and going to the local record store to get the weekly charts. Early 70s I relied on a clunky bedside tube radio and mid-70s my awesome Dad bought me a real stereo system which opened up the world of album-oriented music. So many great songs and great memories.

@@sarahelo9656 Ha ha thank you for the comment, and yes those were special times now firmly planted in the past. Easy to have a sense of envy for for seemingly simpler times. Just remember though, back then there was no internet, no mobile phones, no video tapes or DVDs or Blueray or MP3/4 audio/video, no bit torrent downloads or Netflix. In essence, all of a person's recorded musical experience was limited to radio playlists and vinyl singles and LPs if they could afford them. We were naive kids. Plenty of kids are happy today, too. Probably the biggest difference between my childhood and my kids' is that I played outside, unsupervised, all the time. Summer break? I'd come in for dinner and maybe for lunch if I didn't eat at a friend's house. But other than that, I was basically outside - down the street, across the neighborhood, or even in other neighborhoods from 4th grade on. Don't get me wrong, we played video games and watched TV sometimes, too. But I was 5 shades darker and my hair was bleached by the sun. And I didn't know much about what was going on in the world. I was around when my parents watched the news. But I didn't care enough to pay attention, let alone think about it. My kids are much better informed, and we don't watch the news. 😂

Realizing how very fortunate I was to be a teenager in the late 60’s through the 70’s. This was a good summary of mostly pop music, but the real giants were the Beatles, Stones, Led Zeppelin, the Doobie Brothers, the Commodores, Marvin Gaye, Todd Rundgren, Jackson Browne, Hall & Oates, Grand Funk Railroad, Earth Wind & Fire, Three Dog Night, etc. These were the acts packing the stadiums.

Born in the 50's, grew up in the 60's and 70's. I remember all of these songs when they first came out, (WOW) I am getting old, loved them then and still do today, I must like them, I have 99 out of the 100 in my music library. One thing about growing up in that era was ALL THE INCREDIBLE MUSIC we had, songs from the 60's, even the 50's and the 70's. Listening to the radio was awesome, if you found a good station, because they were playing hit after hit, after hit, after hit, after hit all day long, it was GREAT. Thank goodness I have a pretty extensive music library, I would say from 1955 until 1990 I probably have about 97 or 98% of all the Billboard top 100 songs along with MANY others hits that did not reach number one, but were still great songs, so I am very fortunate and blessed that I can listen to all these AWESOME songs anytime I want to.

Very incorrect. Music today still has heart and soul, and it sounds like you’re falling into that same mentality that every person in this comment section has. It’s just your taste. It doesn’t mean it’s bad. There are still many great musical hits today and you’re just saying that just to make yourself feel good in the decade you were raised in. Also, saying only THIS music back then had heart and soul? Please. Classical music probably did it better. 70s probably did theirs differently.

@@arturoromero951 Actually, they weren't saying that back then. Mainly, I blame the industry. It's become formulaic and it's run by gatekeepers who've decided on a small handful of formulas they will accept. Sure you can run across a good or even great song every now and then but from the late 1950s through the 1970s, great songs were a dime a dozen. Modern music is pretty pathetic and anemic by comparison.
@arturoromero951
@arturoromero951 2 жыл бұрын
@@MyXxx77 Not really. While there are many things about it that some might agree on, there are many music industries that want to make sure the artists stand out and many people even challenge or take risks in what they do so that they can form a career or identity for themselves and it can reflect their music that they do. I mean many rappers have challenged their subjects they talk about in their music. And there are still many songs that still creative in what they do as they can experiment with many things besides melody. Sometimes they’ll experiment with lyrics, rhythm or flow. And while you realize that many songs have to have these great qualities, some songs that have great potential sometimes never see the light of day. And some songs that contribute have to have catchiness and also repetition. If it may not be catchy enough, then it won’t captivate some people (even though it’s always not true). And there’s a fine line between being repetitive and not. If it’s too repetitive it can be jarring but if it’s not, then it can be easily forgettable or boring. And most music isn’t for everyone but it mostly works that way. And some people have still made creative and great feats by doing so even today. That’s the most important thing to consider for this. It mostly depends on who works in the industries.
@MyXxx77
@MyXxx77 2 жыл бұрын
@@arturoromero951 Today, you have 6 producers controlling what gets pop chart airplay. Count how many songs in the top 40 use the I vi IV V progression for instance. It's not that people need to hear that chord progression over and over again. It's that the people who control the industry decided that's people would hear over and over again. They consider it safe, so they demand it (you will always find exceptions but over the past 10 or so years, that has become the accepted "formula"). A similar thing happened in the late 50s when "Doo Wop" became popular and the Doo Wop progression became the formula. A number of great songs were written using that formula but it's grip on the industry didn't last long. listen to some top 20s month by month over the past 60 years and you'll hear what I'm talking about when it come to rich musical diversity. It's why classic reaction videos are such a hit right now. It's as if these people are hearing music for the first time. In most cases, they're really just hearing great music for the first time.

The amount of talent and variety of music back in the day was unbelievable , the golden era from the mid 1960's to around the mid 1980's will never be surpassed and the 1970's was right in the middle of that explosion of creativity. There are tens of thousands of great tunes from that decade that never even made the charts or just appeared as an album track. There are always exceptions of course , the last 4 decades have had moments of brilliance and there is still fantastic new music being produced if you know where to look , but sadly the incredible diversity and originality of the seventies will never be repeated !.

So true, to me it runs good until about the late 80's, but the 90's really declined with much less good music. This video makes me want to pick up a Joel Whitburn 70's Billboard Chart Book. The nice thing about this compilation is that it has a blend of all types of music from the decade, and blends not so popular hits, with the more popular ones. The problem with oldies stations normally is that they only play the major hits we've all heard over, and over. Great job here!

The 90s was also a great decade.
