My wife knows I love wool pants. She got me German army surplus officers pants. Excellent quality. New condition. She hemmed them for me. $35 each. If I didnt have these Id gladly buy the Boreal Mt pants, even at $350. Working outside in winter I love wool. amen

The zipper is too short. Like all men, I much appreciate LONG zippers for, well, you know! I would also prefer cargo pockets because if you wear a long anorak it just makes it easier to get to your items in the pockets. Additionally, the ability to accommodate suspenders helps hold up the pants instead of just a gear belt.

I did just that and ordered me a pair. After getting them hemmed. I love the fit and quality! Used the cut excess fabric, to line a hand warmer sleeve. The price is well worth it. I also love my BMS blue cap! It wears nice and is made in Canada! Nice review. I’m looking forward to your review on the new over-shirts. 👍👍😁🇺🇸

Back in the 90's I had a hand me down pair of wool pants from my Dad. They didn't fit quite right but man I could sit in a deer stand from before daylight till dark wearing them. Nice looking pants there man! the quality is obvious and the price makes them completely unattainable for a fella like me 😂 Thank you for sharing them, I enjoyed watching!

These look like great pants. Unfortunately I’ll probably never own a pair cause my Filson Mackinaw Field pants cover all the same bases. I don’t know what the gram per meter weight is but they are darn heavy. They have deep slant front pockets, button flap back pockets and button flap side pockets on outside of the thigh, all of which collectively fit a ton of stuff. They’re double bar tacked/ double seamed at every critical stress point. Heavy duty brass suspender buttons and zipper (really dislike plastic zippers. Basically a deal breaker). They come unhemmed so you do have to deal with that. The fit is roomy. These pants were a gift from my wife about 14 years ago and in looking to see if Filson still carries them I was shocked that the price is double what she paid back then. But they are tough as nails and incredibly warm. The only time I wore full length thermals under these was in that arctic vortex about ten years ago. They’re definitely heavier than what I imagine most folks like to hike in but if you enter the love affair you ramp up! On the non-essential side of things they look great too. I just don’t think I’ll ever wear ‘em out.

@@Woodswalker1965 They definitely do. In the past it hasn't bothered me to pay their higher prices because the products are worth it: clean design, great materials and workmanship. And they have commendable employer practices that include paying a living wage, at least for their domestic workers. True, the family sold the company in 1970 and it's flipped ownership about four times since then, but even within their expanded line of more market-driven items they still offer the legacy stuff. Their traditional tin-cloth and wool jackets, and their bridle leather trimmed rucksacks and Pullman bags can take the crap beat out of them and never die. This in contrast to a company like Woolrich, founded in 1830 and sold great stuff - now a shadow of its former self. They sold off in 2016 and by now none of their classic items are in their line. And what is, I'd wager, no one here would want.

Thankfully I bought all my Woolrich before they were sold. Filson is a quality company, I only have one of their shirts. BMA actually has professional tailors in Montreal QC making their wool products. They are paid well, you have to respect that for sure!

@@Woodswalker1965 at the risk of overstaying my welcome I gotta mention one more thing. Anyone whose pastimes include being outdoors in cold weather, especially hikers, look into the merino t-shirts by a Seattle based company called Wooly. They are awesome. Doubtless many will find their cost beyond feasibility or beyond reason. But if not, I’m sure you’ll find them to be a game changer. They’re a jersey weight/ feel fabric, comes in V neck or three button, long and short sleeve. Limited colors, light and dark blue, maybe black. Zero itch (but then merino usually doesn’t). They’re ridiculously warm. For me they’ve become THE indispensable base layer. And they somehow process sweat in way that never smells. If you try these and go back to polypropylene base layers, well, to each his own. I hand wash them. You can machine wash with cold water but don’t mix with anything like zippers or Velcro, they’ll cause a run for sure. Been wearing ‘em now for three winters. Wooly also makes boxer shorts out of the same fabric but I find them too short. Company has good ethics and promotes non-plastic. Lastly, in all this wool talk for those who think they don’t like wool watch some of the good videos on KZfaq about how wool is made. There are many ways wool is processed and not all wool is from sheep hair. Merino and cashmere, to name two, are fine, long fibers that really aren’t scratchy. Alright, whose soapbox was this? I’m done :)

Lived in Alaska 50 years ago and wore military surplus wool pants where ever I went. They were the best pants I ever had, even in summer. They were quiet when brushing up against vegitation and the best pants to wear when hunting, skiing, and hiking. Thanks for the video review.

Just looked them up. At my age I look at the price of things and how many years I might use them and divide by the cost of the item. In this case they'd cost $20/yr for the next 20 years... 'cause they'll last that long I'm sure.. LMAO. I could give them as an inheritance after. All kidding aside - I know I'll love them. @@Woodswalker1965

@@Woodswalker1965Winter is almost gone at least for me, I'm in northern California. In my area we don't get much snow past February. I'm gonna continue doing more research on different wool pants. Also I need to save more cash for a purchase like this haha 😂😂. The only thing that's a slight negative for me on the BMA wool pants is that you can't wear suspenders with them. But that price is sure tempting. I'm considering buying one of their wool blankets in order to try out one of their other products before getting some pants, jacket etc. Maybe the loden blanket.

I'm also interested in their gaiters. That wool on the outside seems like a great idea for making quieter gaiters. I would wear while deer hunting.
