100 Years of the Notre Dame Victory March (1908-2008)

In the early 1900s, two Notre Dame graduates, Rev. Michael J. Shea, class of 1904, and words by his brother John F. Shea, class of 1906, decided that Notre Dame needed a fight song. They wrote the original lyrics and score in 1908 which are very similar to what is heard today, however the lyrics were revised in 1920 and in 1928 then-band director Joseph Casasanta wrote the richly textured arrangement of the march that is still used today.

My Football Club (Australian Football League) song is an abbreviation of this tune. The club was founded in 1874. The team is called Sydney FC. Or Sydney Swans. These are the lyrics. Cheer, cheer the red and the white, Honour the name by day and by night, Lift that noble banner high, Shake down the thunder from the sky What though the odds be great or small, Swans will go in and win over all While her loyal sons are marching Onwards to victory!

No fight song even comes close to what this fight song at this great University has accomplished! The greatest of all University fight songs, "THE NOTRE DAME VICTORY MARCH"! GO IRISH

The two most well-known and loved fight songs were made in within a decade and have one home...... South Bend, Indiana!! (My hometown!! 😎) The Victors (Michigan) & The Victory March (Notre Dame)

I live in Holyoke! I never knew it started out here. I just thought that the high school copied the ND fight song.

I was rejected by ND. So I attended Michigan State University, Georgia Southern University, and University of Texas at Arlington. STRAIGHT A academic work. Got a PhD. I attended a parochial school early in my life. I was drafted and blown up in the Republic of Vietnam. Teagards...
