Fact 102, France has the best military record of any european nation, quote from the second book of general ignorance byohn Lloyd and John Mitchinson : "According to historian Niall Ferguson, the French have fought more military campaigns than any other European nation and won twice as many battles as they have lost, of the 125 major European wars fought since 1495, the French have participated in fifty - more than both Austria (forty-seven) and England (forty-three). And they’ve achieved an impressive batting average: out of 168 battles fought since 387 BC, they have won 109, lost forty-nine and drawn ten.this makes France the most successful military power in European history The British always prided themselves on superiority at sea, but this was only because they realised they could never win a land war on the Continent. The French army has, for most of history, been the largest, best equipped and most strategically innovative in Europe. At its best, led by Napoleon in 1812, it achieved a feat that even the Nazis couldn’t repeat: it entered Moscow. These remarkable achievements help explain another French military victory. Whether it is ranks (general, captain,corporal, lieutenant...); equipment (lance, mine, bayonet,epaulette, trench...); organisation (volunteer, regiment, soldier, barracks...) or strategy (army, camouflage, combat, esprit de corps, reconnaissance...), the language of warfare is written in one language: French."

Plus not forgetting the british have and always have been a global nation. they used their powerful navy skills to rule a global empire. they didn't give a shit about europe. The French Empire's ''rule'' of Europe didn't really last long, that's why frog you don't attack countries with bigger armies. It's common sence.

@Shaque Brazil lol read again your history mostly Prussians defeated France at Waterloo. But you seem like that type of guy too affected by British propaganda. I'm sure you think that "God save the queen" was created by the english people (it was made for the king Louis the XIV of France because he was cured of an anal disease), or that type of guy who believes that Napoleon was small or that Dunkirk was a "miracle" and not a French victory saving the ass of Britain who had fled without telling your allies on the orders of your beloved Churchill. Go learn a real history book sir !

Well as a french i'm little disappointed....always Paris and same things... For example, when you speak about the French language, you can add that in France we have others languages. In the north, we have "Oïl languages" which are Picard, Norman, Gallo ... etc and Francian which was spoken by the kings, it's the true French! And in the south we have "Occitan languages" like Provençal, Vivaro-alpine, Limousin... and others languages like Flemish, Breton Basque, Alsatian, Corsican. Sorry for my mistakes. :)

Les Miz wasn't about the French Revolution, it all took place after the Napoleonic age. That uprising in 1832 was the June Rebellion.
@samrevlej9331
@samrevlej9331 3 жыл бұрын
Not to be confused with the June Days in 1848 when, after the establishment of the Second Republic in February, the workers of Paris revolted because they saw that the bourgeois and conservative pseudo-Republicans in power (a great deal of the parliamentary majority were monarchists disguised as "Republicans of the morriow") were taking away workers' rights earned by the socialists Republicans in the provisional government that had been progressively sidelined over the months. The government shot in the crowd; there were between 3,000 and 5,000 dead, 25,000 arrestations, 11,000 incarcerated or deported to French Algeria. Perhaps it was no surprise when 3 years later, when President Louis-Napoléon Bonaparte led a coup to stay in power beyond his single four-year term (and later proclaimed the Second Empire), the workers of Paris didn't mobilize to defend the bourgeois republic that had had them massacred.

The two facts about the white in the flag are wrong. The pure white flag (or white with fleur de lys) was the flag of the King of France, and by extension, the flag of his kingdom, so the blue white red is not "the new and the old", it's the citizens and the king, and the pure white flag was never a problem, as it never was the French flag and a common symbol at the same time. This "french are coward because of their pure white flag" comes from 2003 USA's propaganda following the decision to not assist in the invasion of Irak and is just bullshit, just as the rest of this propaganda...
@iteachyou1575
@iteachyou1575 6 жыл бұрын
Don't expect a british to speak about the true meaning of the white on the flag. They just want to do frensh bashing even if they don't realize they are doing it. British brain washed. At this time, the white flag has nothing to do with surrender. The red and blue comes from the flag of Paris during the revolution. And yeah you are right, the US propaganda about surrender comes after the fact the french government didn't want to join the USA in Irak because their were NO evidence of a threat ( nuclear threat ). And who was right ? France. There were no military programm for nuclear weapon in Irak. Even the US millitary has admit they have invade Irak for oil.
@cebonvieuxjack

That is entirely true. It's a shame but I don't really think that they knew it was french bashing. I mean I think that they thought their stuff were real.

Irak's invasion proved to be a mistake whose followings was the creation of ISIS and DAECH, France's decison was right. France is the oldest ally of USA, but USA doesn't understand the big difference between friend and yes man. #76 wrong again, the white flag was the flag of the French Kingdom until 1830, defeated enemies of France waved a white flag as a sign of respect. White flag as a surrendering symbol has been adopted in 1899 during the first Hague convention. The whole surredering joke thing came from anglo-saxons and spread only relatively recently, thanks to our neighbour from the other side of the Channel and even more recently thanks to our ally on the other side of the Atlantic. :)

Hi from France! ... just a little mistake : our national day isn't commemoratiing the 14th of July 1789, but the 14th of July 1790, day of the Fête de la Fédération (I don't have a good translation for that one), a celebration of the unity of the French people.

For those of you who love french towns with strange name... We have a "commune" in France which is named "Sucé" meaning "sucked" in french. In the last weeks before the presidential election of 2017 one of the candidats, François Fillon, came to Sucé for a speech. Local newspapers made a little mistake and wrote in article : "Fillon a sucé" (meaning : "Fillon sucked") ...the correct sentence should have been "Fillon à Sucé" ("Fillon go to Sucé"), but the wrong was done already, and the joke became viral... By the way, "Fillon" is often nicknamed "fion", meaning "butthole"... sometimes, you have problems with orthograph...

The French flag was inspired by an early battle of the French Revolution. The Paris militia wore a cockade of blue and red, the traditional colors of Bastille, during the storming of Bastille. According to French general Gilbert du Motier, white was the ancient French color and was added to the militia cockade to create a tricolor. The French flag also inspired other national flags, including the American flag and the British flag.

Another fact: Guillaume "Le Conquérant", duc de Normandie (William "the Conqueror", Duke of Normandy) took over England with a single battle : Hasting in 1066 (Go check the unique Bayeux tapestry) While the kings of England took more than a century to ultimately fail conquering France (yea even if it is 3 century after, just fun to think about it)

By the way, I have to tell you that, in the begining of your video, you used the rooster of Wallonia (red rooster on yellow background) to illustrate the french rooster. Anyway, great video about our friendly neighbours. With kindest regards, a Belgian motherfactor

Actually the national day in France is the same day as the Bastille event, but was instaured 1 year later to the exact same date, to celebrate the union of the nation during a big ceremony with the king acknowleging the instauration of a parlementary monarchy. As if the national day commemorates the Bastille or this particual ceremony is not clear...

Je... euh... Quoi? Uh ... wait yes no our departments are not divided into arrondissement, I would know no? Ptain I'm not an expert in French geography, (despite the fact that I live there), but me when I speak of arrondissement I think in Paris, not the Sarthe mdrr After I did not even know that Lyon and Marseille also had districts, so I'm maybe not the most reliable source xDD

Ok my bad, il y a bien des arrondissements dans les départemements, mais genre PERSONNE n'en parle, je n'en ai JAMAIS entendu parler PS: j'utilise google traduction... Donc ouais, la traduction est pas folle - Ok my bad, there are many boroughs in the departments, but like no one talks about it, I've NEVER heard PS: I use google translation ... So yeah, the translation is not crazy

Some fact you can add : That "Arrêt" sign you used, is actually a Québecois thing. "Stop" is considered a French word, and have been used on french road signs since road signs were created. About fact 71, it's a bit more complex. Potato was though to cause health issues (probably because people ate germinated ones, also because they grew underground); so Antoine Parmentier tried to make potatoes hard to access; the most famous story being that he set up a potato field, heavily guarded at day, and from which every potato went directly to the King. But at night, there were little to no guards, so people around would sneak in and steal the "precious" potatoes. Antoine Parmentier developped a handful of potato-based recipes and products, even making bread out of potatoes. But the most famous one is the one that bear hs name today, the "Hachis Parmentier". About 73, animal trials were not unknow in France (and probably other countries) during the Middles Ages and Renaissance.
