I'm a very confused American right now and trying to understand this all while everything is in written form doesn't help matters... But regardless, I apologize if we pronounce things weirdly. I'm sure the same can be said if roles were reversed but I honestly contribute all of this insanity to the beauty of culture. As residents of any culture, all habits one becomes accustomed to are considered normal while straying from them is alien. It's just a staple of existence and it just becomes fascinating to me as an outsider but understandably those within that culture would be frustrated and/or annoyed by these perceived differences.

Sorry but your fact on the famine is mostly WRONG. The famine did happen and it was bad but it was easily preventible by slicing of the leaves and didnt effect many of the irish peoples crops. The REAL problem was the english who owned 95% of irish land. The English saw there oppurtunity and raised taxes to a point where people couldnt pay with money so they used food instead . A MIXTURE of the famine and the english taxes drove most people to poverty
@AnneNiker

@lhardly

This food was also shipped off and used to feed English soldiers doing the same thing in other countries. Profitable genocide pretty much. Kind of messed up that people still joke about that many people dying because of the idea that we couldn't sustain ourselves without potatoes. You wouldn't be taught that in an English school though.

to all the "plastic patty" haters, let me explain something... when you live in a European "melting pot" country such as the US UK Australia SA NZ so on and so forth, you have mad respect for your ancestors and everything they sacrificed and gave up, mostly their native countries, to give their future generations (me and others like like... in fact pretty much everyone in these countries) a bigger and better future, at least from their perspectives at the time. so yes, we are immensely proud of our irish and/or german and/or scandanavian and/or middle eastern and or WHEREVER WHOEVER ancestors and will NEVER let go of what they brought here (for years there were more Irish speakers in Canada and the US than there was Ireland so y'all kinda dropped the ball there but you are welcome I guess) and we will always respect our roots while also appreciating our flawed yet beautiful current countries of residence and its very irritating when we display this pride and are shunned for it by natives of these countries. ironically sometimes i feel like we appreciate our ancestral root countries more than people who are still in those countries appreciate their homes.

Historians still debate whether St. Patrick was ever given the Welsh name Maewyn Succat. It is known, that his father's name was Calphurnius and his mother's name was Conchessa and that they were Roman citizens, living in Britain. Calphurnius was a high ranking Roman diplomat. The name Patrick comes from the Latin name Patricius, which means a patrician. So, everything does point to St. Patrick being of Italian blood. I'm both Italian and Irish, so that's fine by me. HAPPY ST. PATRICK'S DAY!

Theres some debate on if st patrick was even from britian some historians have suggested he was from france in Brittany . as for patrick ,theres no p in the irish language so you're right that patrick was a latin import into the irish language , in irish we have a Q which is pronounced as a k. hense mac or mc surnames which originated in ireland and are pronounced with a hard k , c was never pronounced as a hard k in the english language . Map was a surname that probably existed among the celts in Gaul and Britian , in ireland however you had Maq which gave rise to Mac . remember the q is pronounced as a k . :P

St Malky Everything, that I've read recently about St. Patrick's place of birth, places him in either in Scotland, Wales, or England, because his father was a Roman diplomat said to be living on an "estate in Britain".

@lisaheisey6168
@lisaheisey6168 6 жыл бұрын
The Mad Pyro Then, even after the later Anglo-Saxon and Norman invasions, everyone in Britain should now have some Italian blood, but they don't. And, Patrick's parents weren't just of Italian blood, they were Roman citizens and his father was a Roman diplomat.
@themadpyro8560
@themadpyro8560 6 жыл бұрын
After Saxon ane Norman invasions the blood line would be watered down and likely over ruled the italian blood. it's still definitely in the blood line but not the nation consciousness so we don't thinkabout it.
