Barry Davies was such a football enthusiast, wasn't he? The sheer joy in his voice when anyone scored a great goal added something to the occasion.

Ted McDougal 1972. As a 6 year old, this was my first Villa game. 48,000 crowd in the old THIRD division. Villa came back to win 2-1. I remember hardly anything of the game, apart from the noise reducing me to tears. Happy days!.

This is so odd. I'm 53. I haven't been interested in football for decades. But watching this takes me back to the football-crazy kid I was. The clips from 1976 onwards were maybe shown by BBC twice, three times, four at the most but so many up to around 1983 are indelibly stamped in the memory forever, commentary and camera angles, the lot..

I loved all the Admiral, Umbro and Adidas kits and Patrick, Puma and Adidas boots and Minerva Supreme,Adidas Tango footballs and Mitre red and white League cup football... i just can't get enough or ever forget fantastic days!!!!!!!!!.

@@grahamwood9428 10.00 standing at Chelsea away end was early 90s because I drove to Stamford bridge and parked nearby. I remember outside a pub Chelsea fans asking where's all the Tottenham and asking me questions about Chelsea to see if I was a Chelsea fan, I was relieved I knew all the answers. I dislike pink,yellow and orange boots the most I today's football.

Ronnie Radford's goal is arguably the greatest goal ever.....I have left specific comments on that on the Hereford v Newcastle video so won't repeat them here. I am a Scottish guy and a lot of Scots like to point to Archie Gemmill's goal v Holland in 1978 (which was a great goal) as his best. Archie Gemmill's best goal is right here though, goal of the season. He intercepts the ball about 30 yards from his own goal, btw megs the Arsenal player, passes to Withe, the run he does to get into the Arsenal box is unbelievable and he still has the composure to finish like he does.....awesome.
@TheMarkrammond5 жыл бұрын
8:54 - Ronnie Radford - "Oh, what a goal! What a goal! Radford the scorer... and the crowd are invading the pitch" - I think this is my favourite goal of all time. I love the pitch, the crowd of urchins, the effort, and the rocket shot from 35 yards, what's not to like.

Always wondered why that Jimmy Greaves goal near the beginning made the cut of “great goals”. Now having seen it again I’m even more baffled - it was a tap-in from point blank range and the throw-in from which the goal came was a foul throw as the Spurs player’s foot was across the touch line when he took it. Some classic strikes in here though - Bryan ‘Pop’ Robson was a seriously underrated player.
@mcfcguvnors Жыл бұрын
was also a foul throw by Kinnear

I had the original VHS of this too. The goals selected probably reflected great British goalscorers at the beginning ie Charlton, Best, Law et al and the inclusion of the Jimmy Greaves goal reflected that from 1969 onwards when the Beeb was showing games in colour.

What makes thee goals even mpre impressive is the fact that the pitches were sometimes quagmires and they used heavy, leather balls that got even heavier when they got wet.
