Wayah is Cherokee for WOLF🐺 I am Wolf Clan Cherokee, and my family fled and settled in the Thomaston, GA area, instead of marching the Trail of Tears. I used to spend a lot of time on the Cherokee Res, up around where you were, during the summers. You have been for sure showing some of my family history🐾🦊🐺

I could feel the peacefulness through the video. A little disappointing that the cabin was all closed up but to see a cabin still standing for so many many years is awesome. Try to imagine what life was back then is a lot to think about. That was a long walk to the out house especially on cold snowing nights. But they thought no different as it was what is was. How spoiled we are today. Thanks Robert for a great video. ♥️😊👍🌟🌟🌟🌟

I enjoyed this video! I live rural in the mountains of southern West Virginia, and the scenery reminds me of my front yard view. I was a little disappointed it was locked up too, but it was still an awesome video. Thank you for taking us along with you on yet another great adventure! Wishing you and your best friend the happiest and safest 2023. God bless you and keep you.

I'm glad the fire clearing is being kept up. This wooden structure and the outbuildings would catch fire quickly. I can see why the Great Smokey Mountains is visited annually by so many people. Thanks for sharing this bit of history and what the underside of that cabin looks like. Wouldn't be a Sidestep Adventure without that!

Also, think of the hardy folks who tolerated (or maybe not) the isolation. ---Up on that hill, at first I thought I heard thunder, then realized it was the wind.

It’s a good thing it’s not in California or two things would’ve happened. It would’ve been completely defaced with graffiti and more than likely burned down. This is not just something that would happen in California, there are plenty of places in the United States, where the idiots roam.

Robert , I could just imagine Paul and I walking around and taking photographs and looking out over the mountains, embracing the serine scenery. it is beautiful there. I can also imagine that it was back in the day as well, except on cold winter days when you have to go for a long walk just to go to the bathroom, which I imagine was not all that pleasant. But the history of the place was very interesting, and the drive there must of been nice as well. A shame that was the place was all closed up and you were not allowed to go in. Thank you for all your work and in sharing. appreciated.

Very cool. Our Forest Fire Service, here in NJ, maintains and uses 21 fire towers, scattered around the state. I have climbed two of them and have been inside the cab of one of those. The best wood for the wooden roof shingles is Atlantic White Cedar, which is very common in this part of NJ. I believe the cedar roof shingles on Independence Hall in Philadelphia came from right here in South Jersey. Anyway, I've been enjoying the adventures in North Carolina.

Robert, Those views you filmed are really wonderful. I really get the feeling of the quiet and isolation around you. At least the graffiti isn't modern or spray paint. Those shingle repairs are professional, but I'm afraid if the cabin was open it would be scarred by idiots! The place seems remote enough to attract losers. Cheers, Rik

Been up to the waya bald a few times. The view is breathtaking. That rangers Station house is just about as quiet, quiant, and removed as you'd ever want. It's sooo quiet up there. A fellow could really decompress in front of a fireplace and only hear the secret sound of a mountain top at night... is the outhouse still kinda hanging on for dear life off to the side?
