In this video I discuss how the supercharger has been, I go over a few modifications it needed, discuss installing a 5.5psi pulley.

Hey Brother, I have used 3:06 this before. Buy a small Beer Keg, put E-85, (using one-way valves) when boost comes up 👆, the beer keg will pressure up 👆. The boost pressure will spary E-85 into the suction (low pressure) before the supercharger, Cooling the hot 🔥 air charge and adding Extra fuel you need when you have 5 or 6 psi of boost pressure. Remember E-85 is 104 octane. Auxiliary spary of E-85 : 1. Adding Extra fuel 2. Cooling down the Hot 🔥 Air 3. Adding a increase of Octane.

as for the airbox restriction, just remove the small restrictor horn in the lower half of the airbox, it pulls right out

I highly reccomend a tune, before a pulley drop. A far as all my gm 3800 mods go these engine take to a timing change better than more boost.

I put the same kit on my 2007 Back last august, Loving it so far as well, Just running the 3.5 pulley, Wish i could get my hands on an inter cooler kit, Would much rather go that route then Water/Meth

Glad to hear you are only running 5 psi. I think 🤔 10 psi would be to much boost, for a Non- intercooler set-up.

my cooling solution is a 4 core from a 5.0 explorer and the corresponding fan shroud. also, as a suggestion, if the headers themselves don't fit look at a set of JBA headers for SOHC and use the Hedman cross pipe.

Should be good to go with the 5 psi pulley. With iat sensor in the supercharger instead of mounted on the maf the pcm with be able to pull timing if it gets hot.

Yeah I think so… I could probably get a bit more power with a tune but I don’t think it will self destruct without one. It’s nice to know I got a bit of room with the injectors.

Id say you should be fine at 5 psi of boost with no tune but a good tune would definitely help on power.

I’ll definitely look into that! I think my biggest restriction right now is my mass air flow sensor. But I’m not really pushing it at all!

What I did was to install factory Ford GT fuel injectors that are 32lbs/hr vs the stock 24lbs/hr injectors. That gives you 33% more available fuel flow, if needed, for the 5.5 psi pulley, especially helpful when at WOT and the engine management goes into open loop mode. When not needed, the stock ECU just runs negative fuel trims, about -15 to -17% and doesn't throw any codes at all.

I've been looking at that supercharger kit myself for quite awhile and it looks like they also offer an intercooler that goes with it. Thoughts on that vs methanol injection? Great videoman, keep em coming!👌

Unfortunately the inter cooler from modbox was discontinued, maybe someone else’s might work… I’m not sure. I think methanol is cheaper…. so more just go that way. I think I might pick up a used kit. Seems like some decent one’s around for under 400$. I’ll keep you posted.

I'm running the 8 PSI pulley in my setup as it barely pushes my boost to 4.5 PSI at WOT (I have shorty headers and a off-road exhaust). I upgraded the injectors to the 47lbs ones. Also using a the stock fuel pump (new). Fuel pressure has never been a issue as the fuel rail stays at a constant 66-64 PSI. I would highly recommend you invest in your own tuning software such as HP Tuners. You are able to configure for the larger injectors. You can also fix the issue with the temp sensor reading the intake temperature to high by readjusting the curve at which the ECU pulls timing based on intake temperature. I'm also running water injection. I ran water methanol at first, but you can run just straight distilled water for cooling. I also see you have the oil catch can on the intake side. I really don't think it going to do you much use there. I have the same issue with the rear PCV tube collapsing, it has split on me twice now causing a vacuum leak, I'm looking to redo it with a more rigid tube, this is also where most the oil will be blown in to the intake.

This is great info, Thanks! Yeah I don't know what I was thinking..... I already pulled the catch can out and installed a ridged PCV line. Ill take a look at that tuning software. Are you at a high elevation, or is it just because of your free flowing exhaust your boost is lower?

Over 80% time on, fuel injection time on. Burn out the injector coils or/and the drivers in the computer.

10:55 Hey Brother just install a Wide Band Oxygen Sensor. This will tell you if you need Larger injectors 💉. Also if you need more fuel ⛽, when the boost is at 5 psi. You can tell the stock Ford computer the air temperature is 10° F. To make the fuel curve richer.

How do you drive this? I have a 99 manual 4.0. I really want more power so I’m considering doing a SOHC conversion with a newer trans. Want to remain manual but don’t want to shred it with the supercharger. I have a lead foot and I’m running it on 33’s with a 5” lift right now.

Hmmm, I think if I was you I’d probably look at a 5.0 swap. I already had my 4.0 SOHC and I knew it was in great shape after doing the timing chains, oil pump etc. To go through all the work of finding a 4.0 SOHC 5speed 4x4(Speed sensor is in the transfercase) and then swapping it. I’d jump up to a 5.0 I think it might work out cheaper in the long run? Just do tons of research… if you do swap it video as much of it as you can and link it here, I’d love to see the progress! 👍

I just got my 4.0 sport trac (which is on the old explorer/ranger frame)on the road after doing the cassette timing chain job on it. I'm guessing it gets around 18mpg. Haven't had it going long enough to do a actual calculation. Anyway, I'm curious if your supercharger has effected your mileage and what your hey mileage is approximately. Seems like that mild added power, and everything else the same might be a little better or the same at the same rpm?

Any details on the cassette timing chain job? Were your tensioners done? Proactive? Is there a kit to solve the problem long term?

If the cassettes are gone, might as well pull the engine. I believe changing tensioner will help but only if you know your chain cassettes are still good. Pull the valve covers and inspect what you can, it's usually the right rear that goes first.

Would you be able to show how you have your gauges hooked up? I know you showed where you out the boost gauge but other than that I think seeing the rest would be cool.

@@theweas4910 I put it in the drivers side down pipe, as close to the manifold as possible. Top side… you don’t want condensation collecting in it. 👍

Hey buddy I had a question for you. When you have your A/C on at idle in park does your intake make almost like a burp when the A/C clutch kicks on? Just curious because mine does 😅. Also cant wait to see the 5 psi pully on there i want to do the same but im probably going to get a water/meth kit first. And also for sure will those headers fit with no issues that you know of? I have a 2010 4.0 sohc and want to get a full exhaust done

I don’t have that but mine is standard so maybe it idles a bit differently. Sounds like a belt is slipping… I’m not sure what else would make a noise?

It’s doing really well I ended up installing a 3 core aluminum rad this summer it really helped towing the trailer, I still need to open up my fan shroud a bit though so the air can flow through at highway speeds a bit better. Next project is the SAS….. I Have 90% of the parts for the straight axle but planning another 5000mile trip in a few months so unsure if I’m going to do it before or when I get home, I hate ironing out bugs far from home.

Normal driving stayed the same. Towing my trailer it’s better by a bit. About 1- 1.5mpg better

Oh that’s a tough one. Supercharger used was 200$, rebuild kit and oil was another 140$, moddbox kit was 2400 with taxes…. I just had an intercooler made so that’s another expense but it’s got a lot of potential now… many guys running 8psi boost around 350hp on the stock block.

Considering he hasn't done a performance tune yet, I imagine if you leave out the high-flow catalytic converter and EGR delete mod then my answer would be "maybe..?"

It wont pass the visual because it's not a CARB certified configuration. It will pass the computer check though as long as you don't have a check engine light and have not disabled the oxygen sensors via a performance tune. The computer is able to compensate for the boost.

Not sure if this helps for cfm. Engine cid × rpm ÷ 3456 × max boost ÷ 14.7 +1. Will give you. CFM I know it is not a carb. But it's a start for fuel mixter. Not sure what the math is for 8 cylinders.( Cc ) for injectors. The thunderbird had red 30lbs injectored

Excellent point I’ll check that out…. I did run the injector calculator and I believe right around 34lb would be good. The plan is to look into getting a tuner and then playing around with it a bit….Thanks for the info! 👍
